General

  • Set in 25 acres of Cheshire countryside
  • Three fishing lakes, on-site café and its own reindeer herd
  • Easy access to Chester Zoo and Delamere Forest

Reindeer! In Cheshire! You'll hold Chester site Big Foot Glamping and Camping At Tarvin Sands deer to your little holiday heart – and here there be fishing too.

But Rudolph and pals first... Big Foot is home to a herd of UK born and raised reindeer, a right friendly bunch who you should be able to see being fed and exercised when they're out and about. They're all part of the Tarvin Sands Reindeer Centre and Fishery, where there's also an information hut, a gift shop, picnic areas, gardens and other animals including kingfishers, water voles and greylag geese.

And now the fishing. Three coarse fishing lakes are on the site, crammed with 30lb fish including carp, bream, roach, tench, chub, perch and rudd; if you want to get competitive, open comps are held every Tuesday and Saturday.

Big Foot is set over 25 acres of Cheshire countryside, with loads of room for kids to play and run around. It has an excellently-kept facilities block with free hot showers and toilets, a washing-up hut and a parent and baby washroom. There's also a café on site, serving hot and cold food from sarnies to full-on fryups.

Nice, clean site, well looked after. Wasn't too cramped, you were able to set up your pitch with as much space as you needed. Didn't feel restricted.

Café on site if you didn't want to cook, nice fishing lake and great field space for games etc.

This was our first time camping so didn't really know what to expect but was a brilliant experience on a lovely site.

    Disliked:

No electric / plug point in the shower/dressing area so couldn't dry hair, but not a bad downside.

I know some campsites have an area with electric points, it wasn't the end of the world but would have been handy!

Loved our stay in the cabins at Tarvin Sands. The staff are always on hand and are very friendly and helpful. This was my second stay here and the site is always developing. Had a walk around the lakes and saw plenty of fish, but never got to go fishing myself in the end. The toilets and shower block are very clean. The cafe on site is also a great welcome.

Local attractions

Big Foot Glamping and Camping At Tarvin Sands has heaps of room on site to wander around, picnic in and wildlife watch, but if you're here to also see a bit of Cheshire and the northwest, you'll find it's in handy locale for getting out and about. Liverpool, Manchester and north Wales are all within a short drive.

It's a smashing site for kids too, as it's close to famed family attractions like Chester Zoo as well as the kid-friendly fare in nearby Chester: try the Chester ghost hunter trail, the miniature railway at Grosvenor Park and the pools and flumes at Northgate Arena.

The Big Foot team also reckons you should take a look at Blakemere Craft village, the farm animals, play areas and tasty treats of Chester's The Ice Cream Farm, and family adventure play park the Crocky Trail.
