Panpwnton Farm: Grass pitches

General

  • Shropshire farm site on the Offa's Dyke Path and by the River Teme
  • A 10-minute drive to the Spaceguard Centre; 40 minutes to Elan Valley
  • Stroll along the riverbank to Knighton in 20 minutes

Just next to the Offa’s Dyke Path and on the banks of the River Teme, Panpwnton Farm is about as close to Wales as it’s possible to be without actually being in Wales (although as the border’s just a couple of hundred metres away you can easily flit between the two nations as you wish…)

That location of course makes this a prime pick for anyone making their way along the entirety of the Offa’s Dyke Path – but there’s plenty of walking (and cycling too) to be done nearby for folk who aren’t up for such long-distance ventures. The farm is in the southern stretches of the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (10 minutes' drive from Llanfair Waterdine), where lots of scenic trails await, and you can also try out shorter stretches of Glyndwr’s Way, another major trail on the Welsh side of the border.

There’s pretty rural scenery all around the farm, but you’ll not be stranded miles from civilisation – in fact it’s only about a mile to the small town of Knighton for pubs, eateries, shops and a railway station. You can drive down there in five minutes or so, but the favoured way to travel is to stroll along the riverbank for 20 minutes.

Barbecues are permitted on site, so you might like to stock up on goodies for the grill while you’re in town. A washing-up area is on hand for cleaning up afterwards, and there are hot showers to help you do the same for yourself. There’s no wifi on site, but most guests get decent phone signal, and there are charging facilities to make sure you’ve got plenty of juice to plan your adventures.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

No naked flames are allowed inside the hired accommodation units.

Perfect for Offa's Dyke wakers. A good simple set up in a flat field alongside the railway line. There are only about four trains a day so no disturbance. Shower and loo where clean and there is a space to prepare food. I was the only camper there the night that I stayed. The site is near to Knighton if you want to find a place to eat or get supplies

Peaceful and quiet but with close proximity to Knighton. Easy 10/15min riverside walk into town, however torch needed at night. Excellent spot for access to Offa's Dyke path. Good communication with farm owner Sue re booking. No restriction on arrival/ leaving times and opportunity to choose own pitch. Single wc and shower facilities nice and clean and in good working order. Site next to heart of Wales railway infrequent trains passing not an issue.

    - Plenty of space with each pitch
    - Brilliant location, the walk into town by the river is lovely in the evening and only takes 15 minutes at a slow amble
    - Quiet enough that you're not fighting with other campers to use the single shower and sink

    Disliked:

    - First train of the day rolls through at 06:56 on weekdays and 06:00 on Saturday, so be ready for the wake-up call

The location of the site was stunning, there were no electric hook ups for people that wanted them but there was a lovely room in one of the barns where campers had access to a full size fridge, kettle, Toaster and Microwave oven and a sofa to use whilst waiting for the kettle to boil. Communicating with the owners was very easy when we had a query or 2. Would definitely stay there again.
