General

  • Adults-only site in a secluded hill setting
  • Small, peaceful and easily accessible from Craven Arms
  • In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty

Perhaps you’re a put-upon parent. Or an anguished auntie. Or one of those people who are scared of kids (well, they do ask such peculiar questions and also loudly point out one’s apparent weirdness in public). Or perhaps you are fond of small people but only in small doses. Whichever category you fall into, if you’re looking for an adults-only space for your hols, Greenway Touring Site should fit the bill.

(And if the thought of other humans is making you shudder, Greenway is in the Corvedale hills in the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with miles of solitary walks and sightseeing in all directions.)

The park is small, friendly and peaceful but is easily accessed a couple of miles along the B4368 from Craven Arms, is nine miles from historic Ludlow and is within reach of the Welsh border for days’ worth of grown-up sightseeing and shopping. It's well landscaped and on a gentle slope.

Craven canine company? Dogs are welcome.

Please note

This is an adults-only site. Children under the age of 18 are not allowed on site.

If using a satnav to find us, you may be directed down a small lane that is not suitable for motorhomes or caravans. Please follow the directions stated on our Pitchup.com listing and your booking confirmation email.

Only 6amp did trip it out once . Tv Reception poor.

From the manager...

if guests experience problems with the 6amp supply (unfortunately we are only on single phase electricity) we are always happy to help work out what is tripping the electric. We do have a supply of travel kettles that we lend out as many guests have household kettles.
TV reception is poor in this area and quality is dependent on the type of aerial being used, but we do lend out external TV aerials if required.

We are a quiet and peaceful site set amongst the rolling hills of Shropshire and provide a relaxing place to stay. Guests are welcome to just chill and watch the birdlife and generally recharge their batteries or use us as a base to explore the local market towns, countryside or attractions.

Whilst we have an information hut full of literature about what is happening and places to visit/eat we are always happy to chat to our guests about these. The walking can be spectacular whatever the time of year as the hills and fields are an ever changing landscape.

This was our visit outing with our new caravan, and we couldn't have chosen a better place to try everything out. The site was chosen for being adults only and was therefore very peaceful and quiet, all facilities close at hand and clean. The owners were friendly and unobtrusive. We enjoyed the stay so much we booked an additional night.

    Disliked:

Nothing, will definitely be visiting again.

From the manager...

We are generally out and about on the site on and off throughout the day and are always happy to stop and chat without getting in the way. If you want to know something or just a chat to pass the time just stop us.
We look forward to seeing guests return to see more of beautiful Shropshire and all it has to offer.

Excellent site. Very helpful owners happy to share local knowledge. Very quiet site which is adults only. Facilities always clean. Some nice touches such as chimney loan.

Also very good recycling process in place including bucket and food waste containers to use. Will definitely return.

    Disliked:

From the manager...

Whilst we have a large information hut we are aware that sometimes a leaflet does not do the place or food justice so we are happy to discuss things including parking with our guests,
We believe strongly in recycling which is why we provide recycling containers to go to individual pods and pitches to make it an easy process for our guests.
Many guests love children but appreciate the child free environment we offer so they can really chill and relax in the peace and quiet surrounded by hills, views and listen to the bird song.

Location if you just want to chill out and walk your dog is great.
Wifi is a bonus if you need to see e mails and alike...very reasonably priced and nice to see full range of recycling going on.

    Disliked:

    Nothing really.

From the manager...

We are a rural site (not too far from local attractions/ towns/ pubs/eateries/shops) where you can just chill and relax or use us as a base to discover more of Shropshire.
There are several walks using public footpaths and quiet country lanes that can be enjoyed by all not just dog walkers.
We encourage guests to recycle by providing different bins that can be taken to the individual pitches or pods as well as general recycling bins by the toilet block. We recycle glass, tins, plastic, paper, cardboard and food waste.

The site was very peaceful and lovely surroundings we liked the fact that all pitches were private and spaced out with bushes and small trees between them. The site owners were very friendly and nothing was too much for them I even picked some plums from their tree which were very good. We will definitely return for a longer stay as there is a lot of attractions in that area and its not a part of the country that we have stayed in before.

    Disliked:

The only downside for us was the mobile network and wifi access as we had no contact with my elderly mother on our arrival.

From the manager...

We are in a poor mobile phone reception area, some guests like this others don't.
Phone reception can better on the hills behind us if you are going for a walk using the public footpaths over the fields and hills.
We do provide free WIFI to help overcome this but this can be slow if there are a lot of people using it at the same time.
Information leaflets and booklets are available in the information hut to showcase some of the attractions and places to visit in the area. There are too many to be able to have information on everything and we are always happy to discuss options with guests when we know what they are looking for/interested in.
We look forward to seeing returning guests.

Clean facilities, helpful staff and well presented site 27/08/2017

The campsite was generally very peaceful and was extremely well looked after.
The pitches were a good size, and we were able to find an area to pitch up which was a good distance from the other tents/campers on site, giving us some more privacy. The toilet and shower block facilities were clean, spacious and well kept; I was concerned about the number for the size of the site, but didn't find it an issue [staying over a Bank Holiday weekend]. We were given a slab to put our stove on so we didn't damage the grass, and again, the washing up facilities were clean and well provisioned [sponges, scrubbers and washing up liquid]. The tourist information was a welcome surprise- we took in some walks in the local area which we found through this. There was a good provision for recycling/waste disposal, extending to charcoal, compost caddies for food, etc. Chimineas and small BBQs were available to hire, but we didn't need one. The surrounding area was beautiful- my husband commented that the stars looked amazing on a midnight bathroom run! And we saw some kites whilst we were making breakfast. Think we'll be back!

    Disliked:

It's a shame it wasn't possible to adjust the temperature on the shower, I would have liked it a little warmer! It wasn't cold, just 'luke warm'.

From the manager...

We are glad you enjoyed the stay and appreciated the beauty of the area. There are several walks from the site and around Carding Mill Valley, Ludlow and Wenlock Edge. Details of walks to suit all ages and abilities are available in the information hut.
The star shows can be amazing as there are such low levels of light pollution.
The temperature of the showers are set at 40 degrees as one of the showers is still a push button type which does not have thermostatic controls to control the temperature. We are hoping to change this at the end of the main season.

From Craven Arms: travel east along the B4368 for 1.8 miles, and the entrance is on the left at the centre of the wide grass verge.

From Ludlow: travel north along the A49 to Craven Arms, turning right at the second island by the estate agents.

Local attractions

Fans of history of all sorts will be in heaven here: Stokesay and Ludlow Castle are both nearby and the famous Ironbridge Gorge set of museums are within half an hour’s drive.

Craven Arms is the starting point for all sorts of Shropshire sightseeing, but stick around the town for a bit first to take in both modern history and popular culture at the Land of Lost Content, the world’s biggest archive of pop culture items from the twentieth century. Perhaps that’s where your Rubix Cube went…

Craven Arms is also home to the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre for virtual balloon rides over the hills, mammoth-meeting and all sorts of info on the history of the hills. A famous local landmark, Flounders Folly, is just north of the town.

The 30 acres of the Onny Meadows start just outside the discovery centre with waymarked walking and bike trails including the Shropshire Way. Mountain biker? Head for Hopton Wood, the main mountain biking centre in Shropshire with three downhill trails and a warm-up loop.

There are gardens, a limestone quarry and a trout fishery in the grounds of Delbury Hall, just outside Craven Arms between Much Wenlock and Ludlow, with heaps more history in nearby Shrewsbury. The National Trust’s eighteenth-century mansion and deer park Attingham Park is here, as is the Norman Shrewsbury Castle with the Shropshire Regimental Museum. Plus over 600 listed buildings, medieval cobbled streets, and one of the tallest church spires in the country…

The market town of Ludlow in the Welsh Marches is another historic spot to spend a day or two, with a side trip to Ludlow Racecourse almost a must: well, horse racing is the ancient sport of kings. There are traditional, farmers’ and flea markets in Ludlow for further lightening of the wallet.

And then north to Church Stretton…stop off at the Acton Scott Estate with its historic working farm to see how farmers did it in yesteryear, try the archery for which the town is famous, or take off from the high hills of Long Mynd for hang gliding, gliding and paragliding; one of the highest golf courses in the country is here too.
