Greenway Touring and Glamping Park: Lovely views from the pitch

General

  • Adults-only site in a secluded hill setting
  • Small, peaceful and easily accessible from Craven Arms
  • In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty nine miles from Ludlow

Perhaps you’re a put-upon parent. Or an anguished auntie. Or one of those people who are scared of kids (well, they do ask such peculiar questions and also loudly point out one’s apparent weirdness in public). Or perhaps you are fond of small people but only in small doses. Whichever category you fall into, if you’re looking for an adults-only space for your hols, Greenway Touring and Glamping Park should fit the bill.

(And if the thought of any other humans at all is making you shudder, Greenway is in the Corvedale hills in the Shropshire Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with miles of solitary walks and sightseeing in all directions.)

The park is small, friendly and peaceful but is easily accessed a couple of miles along the B4368 from Craven Arms, is nine miles from historic Ludlow and is within reach of the Welsh border for days’ worth of grown-up sightseeing and shopping. It's well landscaped and on a gentle slope.

Craven canine company? Dogs are welcome to join you in some parts of the site.

Guests under the age of 18 are not allowed on site.

Great toilet and showering facilities. Slabs provided for bbq area !

    Disliked:

Owner was overly obsessed with long grass in hideaway pitches. No lighting at night.

From the manager...

We are glad that you liked the toilet and shower facilities.
There are areas on site that we keep natural (long grass) as they help with pitch definition in the tent areas and provide the wildlife with a natural habitat - so we do request that guests do not walk or park on these wildlife corridors.
Lighting is kept to a minimum at night so that guests can enjoy the fantastic starry skies on clear nights.
There is discrete lighting on the toilet block and washing up area so that guests can use these 24 hours a day.
The majority of campers and glampers use their own torches if needed.

From the manager...

We do have generous size pitches to allow guests to take advantage of the views We do have a small stock of chimeneas that we loan out to the touring pitches - the glamping pods have their own.
We are an ideal base for exploring the beautiful Shropshire Hills with the gorgeous Ludlow, Much Wenlock, Ironbridge and Bridgnorth towns not far.

    Wi fi weak

From the manager...

We are a small rural site and that means we rely on wireless broadband (fibre Optic broadband is not an option at the moment) and coverage is usually good however it is dependent on how many are using it at the same time and for what purpose. The WIFI is provided free of charge to guests. Mobile phone signal can also be a problem and is dependent on which network you are on and how modern your phone is. This can be both a boom or an inconvenience to some of our guests and is outside our control.
We are glad you liked the site and the facilities (apart form the WIFI) and would thank you for taking the time to leave a review.

    The noise of the road

From the manager...

Thank you for leaving a review it is much appreciated.
We are directly off the B4368 which is subject to national speed limit and at times can be busy particularly if it is being used as a main diversion route (as has been the case recently) and at certain times of the year is used more by farm traffic.
Being close to B4368 road does mean no narrow twisty lanes to negotiate to get to and from us and in less than 2 miles you are at the A49 making it easy to get Ludlow and Shrewsbury and other parts of the country.
The tall hedge and mature trees do help mute the sound of the traffic when it is heavy and also provides shade for the pet friendly glamping pods and are a haven for birds and wild life.

We do offer generous size pitches as we like guests to be able to site their unit to take advantage of the views / ever changing living landscape.
We are a great base for discovering and exploring the quaint market towns, landmarks, castles, attractions on offer in the Shropshire Hills.
We like to maintain the site to a standard we would like to find if we were to go on holiday. So thank you for recognising our hard work in maintaining the site to a standard that guests enjoy and enables them to relax and enjoy their stay with us.

The location was fine with the village nearby providing everything we needed for the weekend. We went walking in the hills and the national trust area was only 20 minutes drive away.

We were contacted beforehand by the management with a list of local events and places of interest which would have been fantastic had it not gone directly into my Spam folder. I did see it when I returned home though and it seemed quite comprehensive.

    It was lovely and clean.

    Disliked:

Didn't see the people running the campsite for more than five minutes the entire time we were there.
There was no wifi on site and phone reception was awful although we actually saw this as a positive by the end of the trip but it would have been nicer to have had the option to use it.
Perhaps a little better guidance on where we were allowed to pitch the tent would have been useful.

From the manager...

Free WIFI is available from the house (there are signs in the information hut, washing up area and house porch to this effect). As an adults only site we have to ask guests to sign a disclaimer before giving them the WIFI code.
Unfortunately there is nothing we can do about the mobile phone signal or emails going into spam folders.
We do not specify guests have to pitch in a particular place (unless we are very busy) as we like to give guests a choice so that they can take advantage of the views and pitch to take into account their preferences for closeness to facilities etc. or direction they prefer for their door. We do walk guests round the site and show them what is available for their pitch type but leave the final decision up to them.
Brian and Jane are always out and about on site checking / cleaning bathrooms, toilets, washing up sinks and glamping pods dealing with rubbish and recycling, showing people to their glamping pod or pitch and are happy for guests to come and talk to them or ask for further information. They also live in the house adjacent to the site and guests are always told they can come to the house even after dark.
There are several National Trust and English Heritage properties near us as well as quaint old fashioned market towns and attractions.
Thank you for adding the great photos to your review.

We are a quiet rural site with noise kept to a minimum after 11pm out of consideration for other guests and our neighbours.
Being Adults only does help create a relaxing atmosphere, often with beautiful starry skies after dark.
Thank you for your kind words about our facilities and recycling they are much appreciated.
We do try to provide information about the area including local events and provide clean facilities so that guests can just get on and enjoy their stay however long or brief.

We are a small independent rural site set in the rolling Corvedale Hills, which provide a stunning living landscape backdrop to the site.
Thank you for your kind comments particularly re the toilets and shower facilities.
Whilst we are rural we are not too far from the beautiful black and white market towns of Ludlow and Much Wenlock.

Local attractions

Fans of history of all sorts will be in heaven here: Stokesay and Ludlow Castle are both nearby and the famous Ironbridge Gorge set of museums are within half an hour’s drive.

Craven Arms is the starting point for all sorts of Shropshire sightseeing, but stick around the town for a bit first to take in both modern history and popular culture at the Land of Lost Content, the world’s biggest archive of pop culture items from the twentieth century. Perhaps that’s where your Rubix Cube went…

Craven Arms is also home to the Shropshire Hills Discovery Centre for virtual drone flights over the hills, mammoth-meeting and all sorts of info on the history of the hills. A famous local landmark, Flounders Folly, is just north of the town.

The 30 acres of the Onny Meadows start just outside the discovery centre with waymarked walking and bike trails including the Shropshire Way. Mountain biker? Head for Hopton Wood, the main mountain biking centre in Shropshire with three downhill trails and a warm-up loop.

There are gardens, a limestone quarry and a trout fishery in the grounds of Delbury Hall, just outside Craven Arms between Much Wenlock and Ludlow, with heaps more history in nearby Shrewsbury. The National Trust’s eighteenth-century mansion and deer park Attingham Park is here, as is the Norman Shrewsbury Castle with the Shropshire Regimental Museum. Plus over 600 listed buildings, medieval cobbled streets, and one of the tallest church spires in the country…

The market town of Ludlow in the Welsh Marches is another historic spot to spend a day or two, with a side trip to Ludlow Racecourse almost a must: well, horse racing is the ancient sport of kings. There are traditional, farmers’ and flea markets in Ludlow for further lightening of the wallet.

And then north to Church Stretton… stop off at the Acton Scott Estate with its historic working farm to see how farmers did it in yesteryear, try the archery for which the town is famous, or take off from the high hills of Long Mynd for hang gliding, gliding and paragliding; one of the highest golf courses in the country is here too.
