General

  • Family park 10 minutes from Skegness
  • Kids' club, fishing lakes, golf course and evening entertainment
  • Bar, restaurant, pool, sauna and new accommodation added in 2017

Wahey, it's Skeggy! If you too are somewhat fond of Lincolnshire's seaside capital Skegness, how sensible would it be to stay within a couple of miles of it – and on a family holiday park with loads to do, thoroughly modern facilities and a club to send the kids off to during the day? Very sensible, that's how much.

Pack the kids off to make friends and stay busy with the Starland Krew while you make the most of the facilities for grownups: two fishing lakes, a nine-hole golf course, indoor pool, sauna and spa pool… You might also rather fancy a wander around the acres of landscaped parkland, perhaps hiding with a book until kids' club is over?

Southview has lots of entertainment including cabaret, shows and tribute acts in the evening at the Lakeside Showbar; if you're still hankering after a quieter vibe, sail into the Boathouse bar and restaurant for a cocktail or a meal.

The Boathouse as well as the indoor swimming pool, flume, spa pool, sauna and family changing room village were all fully refurbished at Southview Leisure Park for the 2015 season; a fish and chip shop and new accommodation were added in 2017.

Very clean amenities and pool. Pitches a good size.

    Disliked:

No drive over waste point to dump grey water or standpipes, had to borrow a fully serviced pitch.
Insufficient toilets for the size of the touring area.

The pitch was nice and big, the pool and social facilities were great for the kids. We really liked the Boathouse bar and restaurant, it was bright and clean with a pretty good menu. There were good parks and play areas for the kids. The buggy rental and crazy golf looked good but we went in high winds so didn't use these.

    Disliked:

The women's toilets on the touring site were awful. The smell as I walked in them made me feel sick. There was often only one toilet clean enough to use. The disabled/baby changing toilet in the games arcade was also filthy. This place needs to invest in some good cleaning staff.

After visiting this site earlier in the year (Easter school break) we obviously found it a lot quieter, and believe it or not better weather.so facilities were a lot more accessible ( without queuing) ie: swimming pool amusements etc.
However we still enjoyed our stay and obviously accepted there would be a lot more people on site

    Disliked:

This is a dislike section and although the comments made here are not "dislikes"
They are more of an annoyance, starting with the Showers again more people more usage,it was obvious to me and my family that unless you were up at the crack of dawn your shower was no more than a "trickle" of water struggling to exit the shower head.
The only other "gripe" we had was the boathouse restaraunt where on a couple of occasions we were informed of a 1 and a half hour wait for evening dinner, although the bar staff informed us when we entered giving us the alternative to eat elsewhere which we did

We really enjoyed our stay at Southview all the facilities we used were good. The swimming pool was very busy but this was to be expected. We had lunch and 1 breakfast at the Boathouse restaurant and enjoyed the food and the staff were friendly and helpful. My only criticism would be the crazy golf it could do with a bit of maintenance ie weeding and the weed control covering could be a trip hazard.

Local attractions

It's but a 10-minute drive to the sands of Skeggy from Southview Leisure Park for seaside days out on its beach, along its pier and whooping among the rides of Skegness Pleasure Beach. If you're new to dipping a wetsuit-clad toe in the water, have a waterskiiing or kitesurfing lesson at Skegness Water Leisure Park.

At Skeggy you'll also find Natureland Seal Sanctuary, and the Gibraltar Point Nature Reserve to the resort's south, one of the best places on the Lincolnshire coast to see gulls, waders and wildfowl.

(If it's seals you want to see, go north to the Donna Nook National Nature Reserve between Grainthorpe Haven in the north and Saltfleet.)

Four miles from Skegness is Ingoldmells, another Lincolnshire seaside town that's a hit with families, mainly because of its theme park Fantasy Island where record breakers can try Europe’s longest looping rollercoaster and the world’s longest suspended rollercoaster, or more calmly, browse the massive indoor market, open seven days a week.

Driving north from Skegness leads to other fun family resorts like Sutton-on-Sea and Mablethorpe, also topping for days out, or go inland for the Lincolnshire Wolds and food/antiques/gift shopping at Lincolnshire's market towns like Alford, Horncastle and Louth.

Must see

  • Sandringham (24.4 miles)
  • Holkham Hall (25.2 miles)
  • Houghton Hall (27.1 miles)

National Trust

  • Gunby Hall (4.8 miles)
  • Gunby Hall Estate: Monksthorpe Chapel (6.0 miles)
