Alvingham Lakes: Caravans in close proximity to lake

General

  • Day ticket fishery on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds
  • Two fishing lakes in a wildlife haven
  • A short walk from the village social club

Fisherfolk unite, for this is a splendid angling site. Tiny and scenic Alvingham Lakes is a day ticket fishery, just outside the Georgian market town of Louth on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds. It has two fishing lakes crammed to the brim with common, mirror, grass and Crucian carp as well as roach, rudd, bream and tench – plus what the owners say are a few little surprises.

Folks flock here from all over for the fishing and peacefully scenic surrounds, on a friendly and calm site full of feathered inhabitants like heron, moorhens and doves. It's a basic but well-maintained site, with a toilet, handwashing facilities and barbecues (and dogs) allowed; there's also a self-service café for drinks and snacks in between angling or just wandering placidly around the scenic surrounds.

Louth is three miles away and a big supermarket within 15 minutes. And for drinks after a long day's fishing, the village social club is a short walk away.

I had a warm welcome when I arrived and was shown around the facilities. The owners have a relaxed attitude and are friendly and helpful.
The site is in a very peaceful spot. There are two lakes full of fish. Chickens run freely and there are friendly sheep, pigs and geese in an enclosure.
I love the Monkey Shed that has food, drinks, ice cream and local information for your visit and a place to pay to fish - all working on an ‘Honesty Box’ basis.
There is a shed full of all size of bikes to hire.
Plenty to do locally from sitting watching the world go by to cycling, fishing, wildlife watching walking, beaches, Wolds, historic places, nature reserves etc

Caravan was very clean, cozy and well equipped.
The owners were very welcoming and helpful.
The walk to the lake was only a few yards away which was very useful for disabled persons such as myself. I enjoyed two days fishing, catching some four or five double figure carp and a very nice tench around 5lbs. If you are one of those fishermen who consider pot-bellied, 30lb + carp are the only fish worth catching, then this place is not for you. If you enjoy hard fighting, pristine carp you will like these beautifully kept lakes. I shall return - God willing!

Soo peaceful, situated around picturesque lakes, only noise you could hear was created by mother nature,
    Ian and Terri lovely people
Little monkey box shop, with an honesty box, so cute
Me and the wife both agreed it’s the nicest looking campsite we’ve been to, (we have only been caravanning for 25 years though)
We spotted over 100 carp all 5lb plus and many double figures!!!

Beautiful views across the two fishing lakes, Ian and Terri (the owners) so welcoming and helpful. Loved the 'monkey house' with its honesty box for essential supplies and a wealth of information leaflets etc. A very quiet site, and the fishing in monkey lake was really very good. No record breakers for me, that will be down to tactics, not lack of fish in the lake !! They were there, but avoiding me !! The chickens that roam free around the site were more likely to have been caught because as soon as you take your eyes off them they are helping themselves to your bait - hilarious ! We will go back when the opportunity arises, and we intend to do some walking next time.

The best site we have been to in our campervan, first impression on arrival was wow we would've pitched at the gate, A warm greeting from the owners who were very welcoming and very approachable throughout our stay. We followed the owner down a track to a secluded area at the edge of the lake with just enough space for two electric pitches, passing chickens and two pigs this was an amazing tranquil area with benches excellent surroundings to unwind. Only four pitches available so very quiet it's like being a guest in someone's home garden and certainly feels more personal. A small shop on site with basic essentials tea, coffee making facilities, the toilet/shower was spotless. We didn't fish in the lakes on our visit but saw a few catches throughout our stay. Unspoilt nature we didn't want to leave great hosts a true example of great hospitality A+++++

The pubs, eateries, independent shops, traditional markets and award-wining butchers and grocers of lovely Louth are three miles away; after eats or shopping, have a wander around this historic town to see its 17th- and 18th-century buildings or take in a show at its Riverhead Theatre. Louth market days are on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.

The towpath of the disused canal runs along to Louth if you want to get there via a scenic wander, while if you're up for a longer walk you can follow it from there all the way to Tetney Lock, via the local churches, heaps of wildlife and spectacular views. Strolls around the six acres of Lincolnshire countryside of small and friendly Rushmoor Country Park farm park are also nearby.

A 20-minute drive away is the Donna Nook National Nature Reserve, where seals come to pup each autumn, and 30 minutes away are the beaches of Lincolnshire's eastern coast.
