What customers say

This is a popular, well-maintained site with excellent facilities, particularly the large children's play area and clean swimming pool, which are highlights for families. It's praised for its stunning Peak District location, with direct access to the Tissington Trail, and friendly, helpful staff. While most visitors have a positive experience, some noted that toilet and shower blocks are a distance from certain pitches and could benefit from modernisation.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Good facilities; fantastic playground, swimming pool (need to book), decent shop, washing up area, modern toilets, and lots of camping types. Roads were very well maintained and was a safe place to bring children.

Non electric pitch was quiet and large.

Disliked Non electric field was very sloped and very busy when we arrived. Field was quite far from facilities; sort of feels like non electric is a bit forgotten about with no facilities nearby. Electric pitches either had good views, or were near the playground and were flat.

The toilets and showers, although modern and clean when we arrived were pretty disgusting by the end of it, and seemed like they were maybe cleaned once in the four days we were there based upon what I saw.

Given it was the most expensive non electric we saw in the area it probably didn't justify the price point.

Camping pod

Liked The views were stunning, the campsite wasn’t too loud. Despite being told bedding wasn’t provided, it was. The pods were quite roomy

Disliked It wasn’t glamping, it was more like being on a school trip in a shed. Every other glamping pod I’ve stayed at has had a glamorous aspect, tea, coffee, a kettle, sometimes even a small fridge and a way to cook. Empty pods had their outside lights left on all night by the cleaning crew. Our shower was used by someone else, we only left it unlocked so that we could all shower one after another without having to lock and unlock each time. As far as glamping goes we will not be returning. There was nothing to make this a better experience than camping other than there being proper beds. These should not be advertised as glamping pods, just enclosed pods or sheds with beds. Nothing glamorous to report at all. Check in was far too late considering check out time. You don’t get to spend your first day doing anything other than unpack and figure out a way to cook without a cooker, microwave and a no bbq rule.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked The safe were all so nice and friendly across site. Especially in the shop, where they made our children feel happy. The site is absolutely immaculate. The park is great too. Swimming pool well controlled and not crowded.

Disliked The only slight problem is the toilets for the bottom camping field is a good walk. Not so ideal on the evenings.

Camping pod

Liked The location, the size of the pod, individual bathrooms and washing up sinks next to the pod, accessibility to Tissington trail, the swimming pool, and the playground.

Disliked Lack of coffee/tea facilities. The park could benefit from a decent coffee/tea facilities, or a little cafe. The truck that is on offer with food and drinks is open in limited hours and although the food was good, it was also quite limited and no vegetarian options.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Easy Location
Great for walks & exploring
Onsite park & swimming pool great for the kids
Site is clean

Disliked Non Electric Camping was on a hill, this made it a very uncomfortable & impossible stay. Whilst sleeping you was sliding in your sleeping bags, eating & drinking at a table was impossible due to the plates/cups sliding on the table.
There is no toilet/shower block for the non electric campers and you have to walk 5 minutes to the main faculties - not suitable with children especially late at night/early morning. Ended up leaving a day early. Sadly won’t be returning.

Electric grass touring pitch

Liked Very clean and tidy. Toilet/shower facilities good. Really good park area fir children.

Disliked Washing up facilities not central. Quite a walk for a lot of the pitches. Dog walk good but chased by cows and no warning signs about cows. Pitch we were in was very uneven. Expected even pitch at the price we paid

Electric hardstanding touring pitch (no awning)

Liked The scenery and hills were beautiful, long winding roads, people were generous with their support and time, always willing to give their best effort in making us, outsiders, welcome.

Disliked Not much, but possibly add a Elsan chemical waste area nearer to the tourist toilets.

Local attractions

The amount of antics available at Alton Towers near Ashbourne Heights might turn grownups grey among the thrill rides, river rapids and other heady highlights of the country’s biggest theme park. You’ll ensure Very Good Behaviour Indeed if you take the family on to Gulliver’s Kingdom at Matlock Bath, designed to keep all ages busy/tired out for later (beware the nerf guns). Other energetic Peak District pastimes include watersports, laser tag, climbing, caving and zipwiring; find out where’s what at Ashbourne’s tourist information centre, which is practised in all things Peak. More peacefully, the Peak District has a high amount of culture and heritage to explore: National Trust houses and estates, the old spa towns of Matlock and Buxton, museums of all sorts, prehistoric cave paintings, three vintage railways and aeons more. Lead mining was a main industry here from Roman times until recently and info on the industry can be mined at the Peak District Mining Museum at Matlock. Bolsover Castle, founded in the 12th century, has regular events to tempt the kids, such as exhibitions on torture for the gruesomely minded, an indoor riding school, and a theatrical room just for little darlings.
