If you had to pick a Peak District place, you'd be displaying tiptop taste if you went for Ashbourne. For there are many whys: it’s at the southern tip of the Peak District and a gateway to the same; it leads straight on to the Tissington Trail, and it’s sevenish miles from the heady heights of Alton Towers. More? It's also been the site of a raucous game of football every Shrove Tuesday and Ash Wednesday since medieval times; and (possibly related), one in every four of its buildings is or has been an inn or brewery. It's not a bit surprising that illustrious visitors in its past have included Bonnie Prince Charlie and Charles I, although they probably didn’t have time to stop off for a game of footie… Add to your list Ashbourne Heights (formerly known as Highfields Park), three miles from town, well placed to reach a range of market towns like Bakewell and Buxton, and with a good range of facilities and services to fire the family up. From the site you can reach the main sights, activities, landscapes and history of the Peak District: too many to go into here, but do bring your camera. Ashbourne Heights has a heated indoor pool, and generously-sized pitches with room for awnings, gazebos and a car parked alongside. Liked Bell tent is spacious. Park is big with big playground.

Disliked Swimming is small and the water is cold. Shared bathroom not so clean. Bin always full.

Liked Well maintained campsite and the location of the Bell tents was lovely. The Bell tents themselves were spacious well laid out. The staff were also great.

Disliked Portaloos - though I understand why
Beds - Really uncomfortable and the reason why it wasn't a10. The metal base was like a tea tray with the mattress not being deep enough to compensate.

Liked Beautiful Bell tent, clean tidy & the surrounding area is just perfect for a relaxing break. The kids enjoyed the swimming pool, super easy to book & a great added bonus.

Disliked The only thing I have to say is the quality of the mattresses in the bell tents, there more like a camping mat rather than a “mattress”. Quick trip to the range & £15 later on an air bed & we were more than happy.

Liked The peaceful atmosphere.
Tents were lovely and cosy.
Lovely space for the kids to play.
Food vendors were nice.
Really well stocked shop.
Lovely play area.

Disliked Swimming pool opening hours, need to be open longer.
Beds were a little hard.
Needs its own shower block/ toilets/pot washing in the field.
Such a shame campfires arent allowed 😟(best part of camping for me)

Liked The staff were very friendly and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Special thanks to Mandy for bringing me an electric kettle! I really liked the well kept play area for the children, they loved it, and my children also loved swimming at the pool. The bell tent we stayed in was lovely, the beds were comfy and little things had been thought of - storage bench for storing food items, electric hook up, a light which you can attach to the central pole of the tent, small table and board so you can have your breakfast in bed, and a bench with storage to keep shoes tidy. The tent was immaculate and we would stay in one again.

Disliked The bell tents are new to the site and for convenience at present there are two portaloos in close proximity - this is a great idea but I think the site needs to consider moving them further away from the tents as they are too close - they smell awful! That is the only thing we disliked! I can see why they are there - they just need to be further down the lower end of the field! A simple pot wash area would also be great nearer these tents, otherwise it’s a fair walk away.

You’ll ensure Very Good Behaviour Indeed if you take the family on to Gulliver’s Kingdom at Matlock Bath, designed to keep all ages busy/tired out for later (beware the nerf guns). Other energetic Peak District pastimes include watersports, laser tag, climbing, caving and zipwiring; find out where’s what at Ashbourne’s tourist information centre, which is practised in all things Peak. More peacefully, the Peak District has a high amount of culture and heritage to explore: National Trust houses and estates, the old spa towns of Matlock and Buxton, museums of all sorts, prehistoric cave paintings, three vintage railways and aeons more. Lead mining was a main industry here from Roman times until recently and info on the industry can be mined at the Peak District Mining Museum at Matlock. All guests spending the night at the park must present their ID at the reception desk and sign registration forms.
At least one of the party members must be aged 21 or over.
Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Arrivals and departures

Late arrivals must notify the park as soon as possible. Your booking will be held for 24 hours. After this period the management reserves the right to relet your unit.
No refunds/discounts for inclement weather, late arrivals or early departures.

Changes to your holiday

Bookings cannot be amended within 30 day(s) of arrival.
Modifications are subject to a £25.00 fee.

Dogs

Dogs are prohibited from main facilities and amenities.
Dogs must be kept on leads and supervised at all times.
Guide dogs are allowed on site free of charge.
