What a peaceful park this is for Peak District hols – on 11 acres of quiet woodland near the national park and set deep in the Derbyshire countryside with picnic areas peppered all around. And what a pleasing park this is for those who insist on amenities being immaculate and up to date – the toilet and shower block comes with disabled access, baby changing and showers with hot and cold water, and is kept in tiptop condition at all times by the friendly site team. Riddings Wood Holiday Park is a rural park but with easy access to urban centres like Derby and Nottingham as well as to the hikes, bike rides and canters of the Peak District. (If you're a bit bamboozled as to what to do first, have a look at the tourist info point in reception or ask the team for tips.) Campfires are allowed if you need a bit of warming upon return. And finally, what a pint-friendly site Riddings Wood is too – the only thatched-roof pub in Derbyshire, Moulders Arms (aka The Thack), is a short stroll away; and the Seven Stars, a community pub, is just across the road. Liked Quiet site with good views

Disliked The toilet weren't clean on our arrival even though the departure has left one hour before. They were cleaned that afternoon but not cleaned again during our 3 day stay. There was a notice to say dump grey water in the hedge. Exit barrier open 24/7. Roadway very uneven. Several units on site that live there for long periods of time that are untidy.

Disliked The conditions of the pitches was poor and very unlevel even my water wouldn’t drain properly.

We are re-developing the site over the winter months and some of the hard standing pitches will move over to static caravans. There are plans to re surface the roads so the site will be much improved by the early spring and summer.

Liked The pitch was good

Disliked Facilities were limited, toilet and shower block was poorly maintained and insufficient for the number of people staying there. Construction materials lying around site.

Luxury Woodland lodge (hot tub)

Liked Hot tub was fantastic, was clean upon entry plenty of kitchen bits available for any occasion

Main bed for comfortable, very warm inside which was good

Customer service prior was prompt via email answering any questions.

Disliked The artificial grass near front door was soaked throughout our stay due to recent rain, once stepped on was essentially a black muddy sponge, no sweeping brush or mop supplied, naturally with 2 children it was difficult to keep the limited floor area dry, That said if there was somewhere dry to remove shoes near the front door it wouldn’t of been an issue, maybe a raised deck area would of prevented this.

No WiFi available on site, limited 4/5G signal, autism parents, heads up!

We are looking into the artificial grass surface to the lodges, there is decking underneath but we found this became slippery when wet, we are currently looking into alternatives.

Liked Lovely clean camping area, good facilities nice area.

Disliked Was a little difficult to drive off camping area when wet, needs stone putting on steep drive area

Liked Short walk to local pub.

Disliked There was only 1 shower/toilet block for the whole site. On a busy wet bank holiday weekend they were pretty dirty most of the time. No gray waste disposal, had to empty into the hedges.

Liked Location. Fairly central for places of interest

Disliked Toilet facilities very poor and often dirty. With the number of tents on site, it would have been prudent to have these facilities cleaned several times a day over the bank holiday.

The toilets were cleaned 3 times per day over the bank holiday, 6.00am was the first clean, 11.00am the second clean and 6pm the third clean, they were also mopped and checked between these time, the last check was 9.30pm. We did notice that due to the heavy rain the floors were becoming dirty very quickly and we tried hard to keep on top of this.

To the Peak! The Peak District National Park is but a short drive from Riddings Wood Holiday Park, and has a bit of what you fancy for all ages and inclinations. If you're in the area to hike, there are more Peak District trails than you can shake a (walking) stick at, from the shorter treks of seven or so miles around the upper Dove Valley and Pilsbury Castle, to long-distance paths like the Limestone Way (46 miles), the Derwent Valley Heritage Way (55 miles) or the Peak District parts of the Pennine Way, running for 268 miles from the northern Peak District to just inside the Scottish border. Climbers and cavers also delve into all things Peak: thousands of routes for all abilities are all over the park for climbers, including Burcen Edge for beginners and more hair-raising ascents like Debauchery and Mad Dogs and Englishmen for the severely experienced. If you're of a cavernous disposition, make your way to the village of Castleton and its four show caves, Blue John, the Peak, Treak Cliff and Speedwell Cavern with underground boat trip. Matlock Bath has a cable car to take adventurers to limestone caverns The Heights of Abraham, and Poole's Cavern near Buxton has vast caves to explore before an above-surface walk around Buxton Country Park. Other attractions like Chatsworth House and Gardens and the old Crich Tramway are to hand for the historically-minded, alongside old Peak District villages and market towns for tearooms, restaurants, family pubs and lots of shopping: try Buxton, Ashbourne and Bakewell to start you off. Back at Matlock Bath, let the kids go large at the rides and attractions of theme and play park Gullivers Kingdom for ages two to 13; the 600-acre Matlock Farm Park nearby should keep them busy for a bit too.
