  • Peaceful park near the Peak District
  • Easy access to Derby and Nottingham; two pubs five minutes' walk away
  • New toilet and shower block kept to immaculate standards
What a peaceful park this is for Peak District hols – on 11 acres of quiet woodland near the national park and set deep in the Derbyshire countryside with picnic areas peppered all around. And what a pleasing park this is for those who insist on amenities being immaculate and up to date – the toilet and shower block comes with disabled access, baby changing and showers with hot and cold water, and is kept in tiptop condition at all times by the friendly site team. Riddings Wood Holiday Park is a rural park but with easy access to urban centres like Derby and Nottingham as well as to the hikes, bike rides and canters of the Peak District. (If you're a bit bamboozled as to what to do first, have a look at the tourist info point in reception or ask the team for tips.) Campfires are allowed if you need a bit of warming upon return. And finally, what a pint-friendly site Riddings Wood is too – the only thatched-roof pub in Derbyshire, Moulders Arms (aka The Thack), is a short stroll away; and the Seven Stars, a community pub, is just across the road. Cheers…

What customers say

Riddings Wood Holiday Park offers a peaceful, clean, and well-maintained environment with friendly and helpful staff. Guests praise the modern, clean toilet and shower facilities, spacious pitches, and woodland surroundings ideal for dog walks. The site's location is convenient for exploring nearby areas and pubs. While generally positive, some visitors mention that pitches can be sloping, and the distance to facilities from certain areas may be a consideration. Despite occasional comments about noise or pitch conditions, many guests express a desire to return.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Playground

Disliked Thought there'd be usable woods with fire pits as advertised on the campsite. Pitch was not flat which meant limited choice for non electric.

Luxury Woodland lodge (hot tub)

Liked Really reasonably priced nice location, hot tub is great, they have washing liquid and a sponge which is really helpful plus towels so it’s great!

Disliked 2 things, firstly the whole lodge is slanted so that’s usual, also another thing which is nothing they can do but the spider are HUGE we actually left a day early because it was too much for us!

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked It was a nice quiet site, clean and toilet / shower facilities were great. Showers were nice and warm with great water pressure. Well maintained and clean. Lovely play area for kids. Really family friendly site.
There is what looked like a water treatment plant right behind the none electric camping field which does let off some level of noise, we didn’t mind this as was white noise for baby, but to bare in mind if this doesn’t work for you! Only can hear it really right down bottom end of field.

Disliked The toilet block was quite far from the none electric camping. As the road through the site was quite uneven and stoned, it was hard to see at night - would recommend a very good torch. We ended up using the car to get up to the toilets as we had a dog and baby with us.

Woodland Boutique lodge (hot tub)

Liked Staff really friendly 🙂
Bed,pillows,quilt super comfty
Quiet,peaceful site
Hot tub spot on👌
Got free biscuits,tea,coffee,sugar milk
Great airfryer,kettle,microwave
Shower really good and hot🥵

Disliked Didnt get no robes or slippers, just like everyone else hasnt (seems to be a problem)
Floor in the bathroom near the toilet has caved in
No tea towel to dry pots so we had to use a hand towel🤦🏽‍♀️
Window above the bed broken n been taped down by masking tape, got woken up at 6am by the light, maybe a roller blind is needed across it.
Noisey neighbours screaming, shouting, loud music til 2am spoilt it for us.
Even someone from the camping went round banging on their door
Check out too early 10am,so we had to pay £20 to stay til 12.or £45 til 5pm.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us, we welcome all feedback.

We are sorry you found your stay with us disappointing and the disruption form your neighbour was not acceptable, he was told by ourselves on numerous time to stop the loud music, he has now been barred from returning.

We are also sorry about the robes unfortunately guests before have taken them when they departed and we do have some on order but they have not arrived yet which we know does not help you.

We do apologise for your ruined time away.

From all the Riddings Wood team.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Nice campsite
Friendly staff

Disliked Didn't refill soap in the toilets
Ground full of rocks so make sure you have some strong pegs
You are camped on a slope in a few of the sites it's nothing super bad but something to look out for.
We got put right next to the water tap so just felt like everyone is looking in to your tents when they are filling up.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Food vans come on site
Good pitch size apart from parking quite snug due to tents literally over the small gravel road. Small shop good although waiting a while if lots people checking in.

Disliked No sign posts near the park
Stopped there 4 days no soap in ladies toliets for 3 of them days.
Toilets generally clean toilet rolls hit and miss in some toilets.
On arrival i just wanted to check my booking was correct as i hadnt received my confirmation on a mix up on rebooking found the lady quite sharp, defensive and rude. Although the communications on email was really good. The lady had sent email but it because it was through this site i didnt get it.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked A lovely setting and the location is great, lots of walks and pubs within walking distance.

The play park was good and well used.

The pizza van.

Disliked Only 1 toilet and shower block at the top pf the hill for the whole site. It wasn’t cleaned often enough with a bucket of filthy water to wipe the floor down.
The female owner was quite abrupt and rude to some of the guests.
All the pitches are on a slope.
No grey waste disposal and a sign telling you to pour it in the hedges.
The drainage smell was awful and woke us up.
I don’t think we would choose to stay here again as there are so many nicer options available locally.

Local attractions

To the Peak! The Peak District National Park is but a short drive from Riddings Wood Holiday Park, and has a bit of what you fancy for all ages and inclinations. If you're in the area to hike, there are more Peak District trails than you can shake a (walking) stick at, from the shorter treks of seven or so miles around the upper Dove Valley and Pilsbury Castle, to long-distance paths like the Limestone Way (46 miles), the Derwent Valley Heritage Way (55 miles) or the Peak District parts of the Pennine Way, running for 268 miles from the northern Peak District to just inside the Scottish border. Climbers and cavers also delve into all things Peak: thousands of routes for all abilities are all over the park for climbers, including Burcen Edge for beginners and more hair-raising ascents like Debauchery and Mad Dogs and Englishmen for the severely experienced. If you're of a cavernous disposition, make your way to the village of Castleton and its four show caves, Blue John, the Peak, Treak Cliff and Speedwell Cavern with underground boat trip. Matlock Bath has a cable car to take adventurers to limestone caverns The Heights of Abraham, and Poole's Cavern near Buxton has vast caves to explore before an above-surface walk around Buxton Country Park. Other attractions like Chatsworth House and Gardens and the old Crich Tramway are to hand for the historically-minded, alongside old Peak District villages and market towns for tearooms, restaurants, family pubs and lots of shopping: try Buxton, Ashbourne and Bakewell to start you off. Back at Matlock Bath, let the kids go large at the rides and attractions of theme and play park Gullivers Kingdom for ages two to 13; the 600-acre Matlock Farm Park nearby should keep them busy for a bit too.
