  • Peaceful park near the Peak District
  • Easy access to Derby and Nottingham; two pubs five minutes' walk away
  • New toilet and shower block kept to immaculate standards
What a peaceful park this is for Peak District hols – on 11 acres of quiet woodland near the national park and set deep in the Derbyshire countryside with picnic areas peppered all around. And what a pleasing park this is for those who insist on amenities being immaculate and up to date – the toilet and shower block comes with disabled access, baby changing and showers with hot and cold water, and is kept in tiptop condition at all times by the friendly site team. Riddings Wood Holiday Park is a rural park but with easy access to urban centres like Derby and Nottingham as well as to the hikes, bike rides and canters of the Peak District. (If you're a bit bamboozled as to what to do first, have a look at the tourist info point in reception or ask the team for tips.) Campfires are allowed if you need a bit of warming upon return. And finally, what a pint-friendly site Riddings Wood is too – the only thatched-roof pub in Derbyshire, Moulders Arms (aka The Thack), is a short stroll away; and the Seven Stars, a community pub, is just across the road. Cheers…

Liked Lovely campsite. Lovely views. Fabulous that takeaways deliver to site! & A good spot for exploring different places. We will definitely be coming back.

Disliked This isn't a dislike - but just a 'this would have made it perfect.'
The play park could just do with a baby swing or a sand pit for the littler ones.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Clean facilities at all times, park and woods for the kids. Great atmosphere.

Disliked Hill, sleeping upwards, walk to the toilet, should be more central. This reason wouldn't visit again.

Liked Really lovely site. Owners very friendly and facilities clean.
Little shop on site where you can order pastries to collect the following day at 9.30am - sausage rolls and croissants delicious.
Right next door to Riddings wood where you walk to Codnor reservoir - lovely walk.
Within walking distance of 2 pubs. Can recommend “the thatch” it’s a 10 minute walk.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Owners were friendly, the site was clean and there were plenty of bins. Lovely woodland walk next door.

Disliked This site is very busy and extremely cramped, ok if you don’t mind that.
There are over 100 pitches here and only 1 toilet block which is very small unit and contains only 4 showers and 6 toilets, it is situated at the top of the site so it would be a fair trek if you’re situated at the bottom of the site.
We stayed here for 2 nights on route to the north, once on the way there and once on the way back. On the first stop there was no toilet roll etc in the toilets however there was on the second stop.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Team were helpful and friendly. Tried their best to keep campers happy and the site clean.

Disliked Pitchws were assigned. Too busy, busiest campsite we've ever been to, for the size of the campsite, there were not enough ablutions.
Tents on top of one another with no space or privacy.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Showers clean, nice walks to go with the dogs. Great that takeaway deliver. Nice pitch with close amenities. Very welcoming.

Disliked Hand dryers not working in the toilet from the Sunday till Friday when we left.
Desperately need to fill large holes in as you come to the barrier. More 5mph signs needed as there were many cars going above that speed causing a lot of dust on the route through the park. Some people not adhering to dogs on leads.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us, we welcome all feedback.

We see that you enjoyed your stay but have decided not to return to visit us in the future.

We are sorry about the dust on site, we have had no rain in over a month and extreme temperatures which has dried everything.

We do take dogs not on leads very seriously and every guest is told that dogs must be on a lead at all times during check in, when we observe dogs not on leads guests are asked to leave as this a basic rule on site and every site through the country. it was a shame that you did not call us to let us know and we could have taken immediate action.

We are sorry about the hand dryers this job is out for the electrician to come with parts that are on order, we are hoping to resolve this in the near future.

Thank you for all your feedback and we wish you well in your future travels, from the Riddings Wood team.

Local attractions

To the Peak! The Peak District National Park is but a short drive from Riddings Wood Holiday Park, and has a bit of what you fancy for all ages and inclinations. If you're in the area to hike, there are more Peak District trails than you can shake a (walking) stick at, from the shorter treks of seven or so miles around the upper Dove Valley and Pilsbury Castle, to long-distance paths like the Limestone Way (46 miles), the Derwent Valley Heritage Way (55 miles) or the Peak District parts of the Pennine Way, running for 268 miles from the northern Peak District to just inside the Scottish border. Climbers and cavers also delve into all things Peak: thousands of routes for all abilities are all over the park for climbers, including Burcen Edge for beginners and more hair-raising ascents like Debauchery and Mad Dogs and Englishmen for the severely experienced. If you're of a cavernous disposition, make your way to the village of Castleton and its four show caves, Blue John, the Peak, Treak Cliff and Speedwell Cavern with underground boat trip. Matlock Bath has a cable car to take adventurers to limestone caverns The Heights of Abraham, and Poole's Cavern near Buxton has vast caves to explore before an above-surface walk around Buxton Country Park. Other attractions like Chatsworth House and Gardens and the old Crich Tramway are to hand for the historically-minded, alongside old Peak District villages and market towns for tearooms, restaurants, family pubs and lots of shopping: try Buxton, Ashbourne and Bakewell to start you off. Back at Matlock Bath, let the kids go large at the rides and attractions of theme and play park Gullivers Kingdom for ages two to 13; the 600-acre Matlock Farm Park nearby should keep them busy for a bit too.
