  • Peaceful park near the Peak District
  • Easy access to Derby and Nottingham; two pubs five minutes' walk away
  • New toilet and shower block kept to immaculate standards
What a peaceful park this is for Peak District hols – on 11 acres of quiet woodland near the national park and set deep in the Derbyshire countryside with picnic areas peppered all around. And what a pleasing park this is for those who insist on amenities being immaculate and up to date – the toilet and shower block comes with disabled access, baby changing and showers with hot and cold water, and is kept in tiptop condition at all times by the friendly site team. Riddings Wood Holiday Park is a rural park but with easy access to urban centres like Derby and Nottingham as well as to the hikes, bike rides and canters of the Peak District. (If you're a bit bamboozled as to what to do first, have a look at the tourist info point in reception or ask the team for tips.) Campfires are allowed if you need a bit of warming upon return. And finally, what a pint-friendly site Riddings Wood is too – the only thatched-roof pub in Derbyshire, Moulders Arms (aka The Thack), is a short stroll away; and the Seven Stars, a community pub, is just across the road. Cheers…

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Mmmmmm not a lot tbh

Disliked A very awkward pitch to get on to for a £33.50 fully serviced .
An awkward angle to reverse onto when there’s tents pitched up directly opposite.
The angle and the camber was so “off” , along with the curb stone literally ripped the foot off the corner steady.
I wish to god I’d taken photos.
After contacting the manager I was told that nobody else has had problems. If you look on the main aerial view photo of the site, you can see the angle of the service pitches. Wish we’d not booked it or had a better response from the managers.
Thanks for that. Not the point of nobody else has ever said anything.
Not for us I’m afraid. Noisy and tight pitches. Ok if you’ve got a small set up of a tent.
Normally fully serviced pitches are in better, more secluded areas on sites. We were put on the first pitch by the gate, right next to the children’s play area and the main entrance.
Personally I’d steer clear.

Luxury Woodland lodge (hot tub)

Liked I liked the addition of the bathroom and kitchenette.

On a previous similar holiday it was less equipped and this helped keep the costs down as it was easier to be self catering and there was no worry of the children having to travel across the field in the middle of the night for the toilet.

Disliked Although there is an out of hours number to call, if you want to go out and about for the day typical office hours finishing at 5 make it difficult to arrange things that may be needed to be re stocked.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Good value prices. It wasn’t too busy (mon/tues nights in early August). But can imagine would be very tight on tent pitch spaces when busy

Disliked Sloping tent pitches but knew they were like this before we arrived to be honest
None of the hand driers or the hair drier worked in the ladies

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Really nice site and really helpful staff will definitely be back and had a great time.
Not a dislike but noticed the playground could do with tightening up as bolts were loose, and could do with things for the younger kids like a baby swing and slide. But overall, a great site.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Lovely and clean site you can walk into the woods from the site, which is great when you have a dog like we did, or children
The Thack pub is lovely and it’s a short walk to it

Disliked Nothing really but it said to clean up after your dog, which we did but couldn’t find any dog bins.
Could do with some leaflets of the many walks there is.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Friendly staff, nice setting.

Disliked Kids screaming at 1am people arguing, central toilet block closed had to use toilet block at the top of the site quite a walk when you’re disabled. Road surface was very pot holed. Not a lot for older kids to do.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to review your stay, we welcome all feedback.

We are sorry to see that you were disappointed with your stay and will not return in the future.

We are sorry to hear that you were disturbed till 1 am, we do have an out of hours number for guests to call we actively encourage its use as we do not tolerate noise after quiet time, it is pity you did not alert us as we could have taken action. We do tell guests who are disruptive to others to leave.

If we are told that a guest has a disability we can move them to a pitch nearer facilities.

The old toilet block is a shell it was damaged by guests beyond repair, we are looking to re build in the future.

Many thanks for your feedback and we wish you well in your future travels,

Local attractions

To the Peak! The Peak District National Park is but a short drive from Riddings Wood Holiday Park, and has a bit of what you fancy for all ages and inclinations. If you're in the area to hike, there are more Peak District trails than you can shake a (walking) stick at, from the shorter treks of seven or so miles around the upper Dove Valley and Pilsbury Castle, to long-distance paths like the Limestone Way (46 miles), the Derwent Valley Heritage Way (55 miles) or the Peak District parts of the Pennine Way, running for 268 miles from the northern Peak District to just inside the Scottish border. Climbers and cavers also delve into all things Peak: thousands of routes for all abilities are all over the park for climbers, including Burcen Edge for beginners and more hair-raising ascents like Debauchery and Mad Dogs and Englishmen for the severely experienced. If you're of a cavernous disposition, make your way to the village of Castleton and its four show caves, Blue John, the Peak, Treak Cliff and Speedwell Cavern with underground boat trip. Matlock Bath has a cable car to take adventurers to limestone caverns The Heights of Abraham, and Poole's Cavern near Buxton has vast caves to explore before an above-surface walk around Buxton Country Park. Other attractions like Chatsworth House and Gardens and the old Crich Tramway are to hand for the historically-minded, alongside old Peak District villages and market towns for tearooms, restaurants, family pubs and lots of shopping: try Buxton, Ashbourne and Bakewell to start you off. Back at Matlock Bath, let the kids go large at the rides and attractions of theme and play park Gullivers Kingdom for ages two to 13; the 600-acre Matlock Farm Park nearby should keep them busy for a bit too.
