  • Peaceful park near the Peak District
  • Easy access to Derby and Nottingham; two pubs five minutes' walk away
  • New toilet and shower block kept to immaculate standards
What a peaceful park this is for Peak District hols – on 11 acres of quiet woodland near the national park and set deep in the Derbyshire countryside with picnic areas peppered all around. And what a pleasing park this is for those who insist on amenities being immaculate and up to date – the toilet and shower block comes with disabled access, baby changing and showers with hot and cold water, and is kept in tiptop condition at all times by the friendly site team. Riddings Wood Holiday Park is a rural park but with easy access to urban centres like Derby and Nottingham as well as to the hikes, bike rides and canters of the Peak District. (If you're a bit bamboozled as to what to do first, have a look at the tourist info point in reception or ask the team for tips.) Campfires are allowed if you need a bit of warming upon return. And finally, what a pint-friendly site Riddings Wood is too – the only thatched-roof pub in Derbyshire, Moulders Arms (aka The Thack), is a short stroll away; and the Seven Stars, a community pub, is just across the road. Cheers…

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Showers clean, nice walks to go with the dogs. Great that takeaway deliver. Nice pitch with close amenities. Very welcoming.

Disliked Hand dryers not working in the toilet from the Sunday till Friday when we left.
Desperately need to fill large holes in as you come to the barrier. More 5mph signs needed as there were many cars going above that speed causing a lot of dust on the route through the park. Some people not adhering to dogs on leads.

The hand dryers are out for repair and we are still waiting for them to be fixed.

We are sorry regarding the burn and we would always advise a guest to go to A+E for treatment in the first instance.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Facilities were ok, reception did have item to purchase, toilets and shower block were ok however we were camping non electric which meant walking all the way up the hill to make use of these, as a disabled person I found this difficult.
The site offers a play park and woodlands along with lots of outdoor games that we could use and my daughter had fun.
We stayed her previously years ago and loved it then but it was a quieter season.

Disliked Sadly this will be our last visit as large groups were allowed to camp together and were partying until 3am being overly loud with music playing and were wandering around all over the place all night. Waking up this morning they've made quite the mess and it's disappointing to see people be like that and have no respect for other campers so we left pretty early along with others who weren't happy.
We've never experienced such a bad evening when camping so sadly won't return but if kids playing until midnight and people partying until 3am is your thing then this might be the place for you.

From the manager: Thank you for you prompt review of your stay with us, we do welcome all feedback.

We are so sorry that your stay was not relaxing, the managers were aware that a group were excessively noisy and were out on site till 2am trying to manage the group, we were unable to tell them to leave as they were over the limit for driving. They have this morning been told to leave and have a copy of your review to read. We are so sorry this has made you feel you cannot return in the future. We do take action when guests impact on other guests and the majority of our guests are respectful of each other but sadly there are a minority that are not respectful to others at all.

We have in the past and will continue in the future to tell guests to leave if they are disruptive and we do block them from returning in the future. Our park is family orientated and we will continue to promote the family ethos.

if you made us aware that you were disabled and would struggle to get to facilities we would have sited you nearer to the toilet block.

Many thanks for your feedback and we wish you well in your future travels, from all at Riddings Wood.

Luxury Woodland lodge (hot tub)

Liked Had a wonderful sister break at Riddings Wood Holiday Park! The Luxury Woodland Lodge was spotlessly clean, modern, and extremely comfortable. Having the private hot tub was a fantastic highlight—so relaxing and well-maintained. The whole park felt peaceful and private, making it the perfect getaway for catching up and unwinding. We loved every minute of our stay. Massive thank you to you and your lovely staff! We will most definitely be back.

Disliked Not really a dislike, but useful information...While we loved everything about our stay, the self-catering kitchen equipment was a bit limited. The pans and utensils provided are fairly basic, so if you plan on doing a lot of cooking during your stay, we'd recommend bringing your own sharp knives and extra saucepans etc.
Tip: Alternatively, you have the option to use the lovely communal BBQ area for cooking instead!

Local attractions

To the Peak! The Peak District National Park is but a short drive from Riddings Wood Holiday Park, and has a bit of what you fancy for all ages and inclinations. If you're in the area to hike, there are more Peak District trails than you can shake a (walking) stick at, from the shorter treks of seven or so miles around the upper Dove Valley and Pilsbury Castle, to long-distance paths like the Limestone Way (46 miles), the Derwent Valley Heritage Way (55 miles) or the Peak District parts of the Pennine Way, running for 268 miles from the northern Peak District to just inside the Scottish border. Climbers and cavers also delve into all things Peak: thousands of routes for all abilities are all over the park for climbers, including Burcen Edge for beginners and more hair-raising ascents like Debauchery and Mad Dogs and Englishmen for the severely experienced. If you're of a cavernous disposition, make your way to the village of Castleton and its four show caves, Blue John, the Peak, Treak Cliff and Speedwell Cavern with underground boat trip. Matlock Bath has a cable car to take adventurers to limestone caverns The Heights of Abraham, and Poole's Cavern near Buxton has vast caves to explore before an above-surface walk around Buxton Country Park. Other attractions like Chatsworth House and Gardens and the old Crich Tramway are to hand for the historically-minded, alongside old Peak District villages and market towns for tearooms, restaurants, family pubs and lots of shopping: try Buxton, Ashbourne and Bakewell to start you off. Back at Matlock Bath, let the kids go large at the rides and attractions of theme and play park Gullivers Kingdom for ages two to 13; the 600-acre Matlock Farm Park nearby should keep them busy for a bit too.
