  • Peaceful park near the Peak District
  • Easy access to Derby and Nottingham; two pubs five minutes' walk away
  • New toilet and shower block kept to immaculate standards
What a peaceful park this is for Peak District hols – on 11 acres of quiet woodland near the national park and set deep in the Derbyshire countryside with picnic areas peppered all around. And what a pleasing park this is for those who insist on amenities being immaculate and up to date – the toilet and shower block comes with disabled access, baby changing and showers with hot and cold water, and is kept in tiptop condition at all times by the friendly site team. Riddings Wood Holiday Park is a rural park but with easy access to urban centres like Derby and Nottingham as well as to the hikes, bike rides and canters of the Peak District. (If you're a bit bamboozled as to what to do first, have a look at the tourist info point in reception or ask the team for tips.) Campfires are allowed if you need a bit of warming upon return. And finally, what a pint-friendly site Riddings Wood is too – the only thatched-roof pub in Derbyshire, Moulders Arms (aka The Thack), is a short stroll away; and the Seven Stars, a community pub, is just across the road. Cheers…

What customers say

Riddings Wood Holiday Park offers a peaceful woodland setting with generally clean and well-maintained facilities. Visitors frequently praise the friendly and helpful staff, spacious pitches, and good value for money. The park is well-located for exploring the local area and offers woodland walks. While most guests enjoy the site, some mention that pitches can be sloped, and there are occasional comments about the distance to facilities from certain pitches and the need for more frequent cleaning during peak times.

Woodland Boutique lodge (hot tub)

Liked Staff really friendly 🙂
Bed,pillows,quilt super comfty
Quiet,peaceful site
Hot tub spot on👌
Got free biscuits,tea,coffee,sugar milk
Great airfryer,kettle,microwave
Shower really good and hot🥵

Disliked Didnt get no robes or slippers, just like everyone else hasnt (seems to be a problem)
Floor in the bathroom near the toilet has caved in
No tea towel to dry pots so we had to use a hand towel🤦🏽‍♀️
Window above the bed broken n been taped down by masking tape, got woken up at 6am by the light, maybe a roller blind is needed across it.
Noisey neighbours screaming, shouting, loud music til 2am spoilt it for us.
Even someone from the camping went round banging on their door
Check out too early 10am,so we had to pay £20 to stay til 12.or £45 til 5pm.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Food vans come on site
Good pitch size apart from parking quite snug due to tents literally over the small gravel road. Small shop good although waiting a while if lots people checking in.

Disliked No sign posts near the park
Stopped there 4 days no soap in ladies toliets for 3 of them days.
Toilets generally clean toilet rolls hit and miss in some toilets.
On arrival i just wanted to check my booking was correct as i hadnt received my confirmation on a mix up on rebooking found the lady quite sharp, defensive and rude. Although the communications on email was really good. The lady had sent email but it because it was through this site i didnt get it.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked A lovely setting and the location is great, lots of walks and pubs within walking distance.

The play park was good and well used.

The pizza van.

Disliked Only 1 toilet and shower block at the top pf the hill for the whole site. It wasn’t cleaned often enough with a bucket of filthy water to wipe the floor down.
The female owner was quite abrupt and rude to some of the guests.
All the pitches are on a slope.
No grey waste disposal and a sign telling you to pour it in the hedges.
The drainage smell was awful and woke us up.
I don’t think we would choose to stay here again as there are so many nicer options available locally.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Very picturesque and friendly site

Disliked No hand soap in any toilets all weekend.
No toilet rolls in the ladies toilets all weekend
Loud group of young men and woman drinking talking and laughing kept all awake from 2am until 2.45am with no intervention from staff.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The location is close to lots of fun things to do.
Toilet and shower facilities are clean.
Although we didn’t use it, you can pre order food for breakfast and they have little pop up vans coming to serve different meals on an evening

Disliked This was our first time camping, and unfortunately the pitch we were given was very sloped. Everything kept sliding, and we couldn’t get our table level enough to comfortably keep drinks on it.
There was a constant background noise during our stay, almost like a toilet continually filling up. We understand this wasn’t anything to do with the campsite itself, but it was still annoying, particularly at night. You can only hear it from the bottom field.
We were told on arrival that bikes weren’t allowed because children had previously been racing around the uneven gravel paths and there had been concerns about accidents. We understand the reason for the rule on the upper part of the site where the roads are etc, but we were staying on the bottom field and felt this should have been made clear before booking. Had we known beforehand, we probably wouldn’t have stayed.
We felt the focus on bikes was a little misplaced when some cars weren’t sticking to the 5 mph speed limit. In our opinion, cars travelling too quickly were a much bigger safety concern.
There is only one water collection point for the whole site, which felt inconvenient especially when it’s up the hill.
There is also only one toilet and shower block for men (4 showers in each) and one toilet and shower block for women (4 showers in each) for the entire campsite, which seemed inadequate when the site was busy and was not large enough to shower and get dried in.
pitches were small, too small to be comfortable with a tent and a car.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Kids loved the park

Disliked Most pitches are on a hill and it’s not the cleanest site. The showers really needed to be cleaned more. The female owner was extremely rude (other campers had also mentioned she had been abrupt with them too) which really lets the site down.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked How quiet the site was and how places to walk the dogs around the area. Lovely people that manage the site though.

Disliked How steep the pitches are and the drop from the grass to the pitch. Made getting the caravan on the pitch difficult. If you don’t have motor movers u will definitely struggle if someone is on the pitch in front with a tent.

Local attractions

To the Peak! The Peak District National Park is but a short drive from Riddings Wood Holiday Park, and has a bit of what you fancy for all ages and inclinations. If you're in the area to hike, there are more Peak District trails than you can shake a (walking) stick at, from the shorter treks of seven or so miles around the upper Dove Valley and Pilsbury Castle, to long-distance paths like the Limestone Way (46 miles), the Derwent Valley Heritage Way (55 miles) or the Peak District parts of the Pennine Way, running for 268 miles from the northern Peak District to just inside the Scottish border. Climbers and cavers also delve into all things Peak: thousands of routes for all abilities are all over the park for climbers, including Burcen Edge for beginners and more hair-raising ascents like Debauchery and Mad Dogs and Englishmen for the severely experienced. If you're of a cavernous disposition, make your way to the village of Castleton and its four show caves, Blue John, the Peak, Treak Cliff and Speedwell Cavern with underground boat trip. Matlock Bath has a cable car to take adventurers to limestone caverns The Heights of Abraham, and Poole's Cavern near Buxton has vast caves to explore before an above-surface walk around Buxton Country Park. Other attractions like Chatsworth House and Gardens and the old Crich Tramway are to hand for the historically-minded, alongside old Peak District villages and market towns for tearooms, restaurants, family pubs and lots of shopping: try Buxton, Ashbourne and Bakewell to start you off. Back at Matlock Bath, let the kids go large at the rides and attractions of theme and play park Gullivers Kingdom for ages two to 13; the 600-acre Matlock Farm Park nearby should keep them busy for a bit too.
