  • Peaceful park near the Peak District
  • Easy access to Derby and Nottingham; two pubs five minutes' walk away
  • New toilet and shower block kept to immaculate standards
What a peaceful park this is for Peak District hols – on 11 acres of quiet woodland near the national park and set deep in the Derbyshire countryside with picnic areas peppered all around. And what a pleasing park this is for those who insist on amenities being immaculate and up to date – the toilet and shower block comes with disabled access, baby changing and showers with hot and cold water, and is kept in tiptop condition at all times by the friendly site team. Riddings Wood Holiday Park is a rural park but with easy access to urban centres like Derby and Nottingham as well as to the hikes, bike rides and canters of the Peak District. (If you're a bit bamboozled as to what to do first, have a look at the tourist info point in reception or ask the team for tips.) Campfires are allowed if you need a bit of warming upon return. And finally, what a pint-friendly site Riddings Wood is too – the only thatched-roof pub in Derbyshire, Moulders Arms (aka The Thack), is a short stroll away; and the Seven Stars, a community pub, is just across the road. Cheers…

What customers say

Friendly and well-maintained campsite with great views and a woodland setting. Facilities, including toilets and showers, are generally clean and well-appointed, though some noted distance from pitches or occasional issues with maintenance. Takeaways deliver to site. While some pitches are sloped, many found ample space. Families particularly enjoyed the playground. The site is a good base for exploring the local area.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Quiet site and very clean. Easy to park. We had a fully serviced hard standing pitch with ample room for awning and extras.

Disliked Needed a car to get everywhere. Locally no pubs open on a Monday lol.

Luxury Woodland lodge (hot tub)

Liked Myself and my husband soent 2 nights here for our wedding anniversary.
Such a lovely place, kept well and patrolled well to stop any nuisance behaviour. Lodge was lovely and clean, bed made, towels provided as well as milk, tea, coffee, sugar, washing up liquid, sponge and tea towel. Staff were very nice , and responded quickly, even at 3am when we needed help with a smoke alarm ☺️ apologised and sorted problem straight away.

Disliked There was nothing to dislike about the lodge we stayed in or the staff, nice site 👍

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Lovely site, nice views, surrounded by woods. Facilities were okay. Site manager was friendly. Site shop was very basic but local shop is a short drive away. I was at top of Site which is very good spot to be, bottom of Site is nowhere near toilets and showers and its a uphill walk. I liked the 11pm silence rule.

Disliked Toilets and showers just need a bit more attention. The facilities are everything when choosing a camp site. They were clean enough but they did need a second clean a day. It would make all the difference to your reviews.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Clean facilities friendly staff

Disliked Very overcrowded site far too many tents and not enough space we asked to move pitch when we arrived as there was no way our tent would have fitted in the space provided it was like being at a festival. The site quietened down after the weekend which was better but would not return

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Lovely campsite. Lovely views. Fabulous that takeaways deliver to site! & A good spot for exploring different places. We will definitely be coming back.

Disliked This isn't a dislike - but just a 'this would have made it perfect.'
The play park could just do with a baby swing or a sand pit for the littler ones.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to review your stay we welcome all feedback.

We are pleased that you enjoyed your time with us and we hope to welcome you back in the future.

Great idea about the baby swing we will discuss with our owner, the sand pit is a good idea we had thought about this and a water play area but feel that it would be difficult to manage, we will keep our thinking caps on as we are always thinking of new things, we introduced the big games this year which have been a great success.

Many thanks for the feedback it has given something to think about.

Thank you from all the Riddings Wood team.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Clean facilities at all times, park and woods for the kids. Great atmosphere.

Disliked Hill, sleeping upwards, walk to the toilet, should be more central. This reason wouldn't visit again.

Local attractions

To the Peak! The Peak District National Park is but a short drive from Riddings Wood Holiday Park, and has a bit of what you fancy for all ages and inclinations. If you're in the area to hike, there are more Peak District trails than you can shake a (walking) stick at, from the shorter treks of seven or so miles around the upper Dove Valley and Pilsbury Castle, to long-distance paths like the Limestone Way (46 miles), the Derwent Valley Heritage Way (55 miles) or the Peak District parts of the Pennine Way, running for 268 miles from the northern Peak District to just inside the Scottish border. Climbers and cavers also delve into all things Peak: thousands of routes for all abilities are all over the park for climbers, including Burcen Edge for beginners and more hair-raising ascents like Debauchery and Mad Dogs and Englishmen for the severely experienced. If you're of a cavernous disposition, make your way to the village of Castleton and its four show caves, Blue John, the Peak, Treak Cliff and Speedwell Cavern with underground boat trip. Matlock Bath has a cable car to take adventurers to limestone caverns The Heights of Abraham, and Poole's Cavern near Buxton has vast caves to explore before an above-surface walk around Buxton Country Park. Other attractions like Chatsworth House and Gardens and the old Crich Tramway are to hand for the historically-minded, alongside old Peak District villages and market towns for tearooms, restaurants, family pubs and lots of shopping: try Buxton, Ashbourne and Bakewell to start you off. Back at Matlock Bath, let the kids go large at the rides and attractions of theme and play park Gullivers Kingdom for ages two to 13; the 600-acre Matlock Farm Park nearby should keep them busy for a bit too.
