What customers say

Friendly staff and clean facilities are frequently praised at this well-maintained campsite. Visitors enjoy the woodland setting, play area for children, and nearby pubs. However, some reviews mention issues with sloping pitches, mud, inadequate facilities during busy periods, and a need for general site maintenance. Despite some drawbacks, many guests found it good value and would return.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Site is well presented and clean with lovely surroundings. Staff/wardens very friendly and helpful.

Disliked Pitches are very very close together with not really any room to even sit outside of tent and relax. Evenings seem loud however I think it’s because tents are almost touching each other.
Not the sites fault however people driving around need to slow down as lots of children out & about. Didn’t have the worst time but I won’t be returning.

Non-electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Toilets were clean.

Disliked Booked a fully serviced pitch which cost £35 per night. Very disappointed to find a faulty tap which fell apart and soaked me through to the skin. No side grass on the pitch just dirt so everything ended up filthy, only one set of facilities for the whole site which was totally inadequate for the number of people there. Area outside the facilities resembled a building site with rubble underfoot, no decent paths of any kind. Definitely wouldn’t go back for free.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Love this site! We have visited many times and will no doubt be back again.
Nice little park and woods to explore for the kids, feels safe.

Disliked Only small complaint is that the old toilet block is now closed and the facilities are a bit of a walk when pitched on the bottom field! Would be great if these reopened.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked Friendly staff
Nice little campsite

Disliked Electric Tent Pitches are incredibly small with no markers as to where to be. We had to move our tent after we pitched it.
Not very flat either so you find everything rolling around including yourselves in the night.
Website states 6m between pitches which is untrue, guide ropes are practically touching.
Could do with more showers and toilets for the amount of people they have on the site.
Site roads are horrendous, really need re gravelling.
They have a bog hole there which you can literally smell the entire time, it’s disgusting. I felt sorry for the people pitched right next to it.
I feel sorry for the people running it

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Water pressure and water temp in showers
Views

Disliked Drunken families keeping people awake till the early hours.. by all means have fun but be considerate of neighbours.
Tent Pitch sizes very small and not marked out ... daughter had to move tent as markings were not done clearly.
I would avoid at peak times as dangerously over crowded.
Cars parked all over the place too, again this was due to pitch sizes.
Only 5 showers for women over the whole site. Amenities at top of hill, not much fun for those parked at the bottom.

Electric grass tent or trailer tent pitch

Liked The pitch being so close to the kids park. The grounds are well kept.

Disliked The pitches are far too close together. There aren’t many walks in the surrounding woods. The toilet and shower block isn’t monitored as closely as it should be. One of the blocks was out of order so we had to walk to the other side of the camp site with small children for the toilet in the night.

My only suggestion would be to have fairy lights in the hot tub area.

Local attractions

To the Peak! The Peak District National Park is but a short drive from Riddings Wood Holiday Park, and has a bit of what you fancy for all ages and inclinations. If you're in the area to hike, there are more Peak District trails than you can shake a (walking) stick at, from the shorter treks of seven or so miles around the upper Dove Valley and Pilsbury Castle, to long-distance paths like the Limestone Way (46 miles), the Derwent Valley Heritage Way (55 miles) or the Peak District parts of the Pennine Way, running for 268 miles from the northern Peak District to just inside the Scottish border. Climbers and cavers also delve into all things Peak: thousands of routes for all abilities are all over the park for climbers, including Burcen Edge for beginners and more hair-raising ascents like Debauchery and Mad Dogs and Englishmen for the severely experienced. If you're of a cavernous disposition, make your way to the village of Castleton and its four show caves, Blue John, the Peak, Treak Cliff and Speedwell Cavern with underground boat trip. Matlock Bath has a cable car to take adventurers to limestone caverns The Heights of Abraham, and Poole's Cavern near Buxton has vast caves to explore before an above-surface walk around Buxton Country Park. Other attractions like Chatsworth House and Gardens and the old Crich Tramway are to hand for the historically-minded, alongside old Peak District villages and market towns for tearooms, restaurants, family pubs and lots of shopping: try Buxton, Ashbourne and Bakewell to start you off. Back at Matlock Bath, let the kids go large at the rides and attractions of theme and play park Gullivers Kingdom for ages two to 13; the 600-acre Matlock Farm Park nearby should keep them busy for a bit too.
