  • Dog-friendly park five miles from Scarborough and 2.5 from Filey
  • Award-winning amenities block, family bathroom and launderette
  • Indoor heated pool, lounge bar, family bar, play area and supermarket
Feel free as a bird at award-winning Crows Nest Caravan Park between Scarborough and Filey – this well-maintained place is roomy, green and has sea views overlooking gorgeous Gristhorpe Bay and Scarborough Castle. Crows Nest is five miles from Scarborough and two and a half miles from Filey, but if you’re taking a break from the seaside/ exploring the North Yorkshire coast there’s loads to do on site too: a lounge bar with entertainment in peak season to suit all ages and tastes, a family bar with pool tables, a games room, a play area for little fledglings and a heated indoor pool with poolside assistants during high season. The award-winning amenities block a short walk from the tent field has free hot showers, wash basins, hairdryers and socket/shaver points, and there are also family bathrooms and a disabled-access shower room. Elsewhere on site there’s a washing-up area, launderette, chemical disposal point and well-stocked supermarket. And, as you can’t come to the coast and not have fish and chips, there’s also a chippy takeaway open in high season (but they do have more fish and chips in Scarborough too). Bringing the family friend? Crows Nest Caravan Park is dog-friendly and dogs are allowed in the conservatory area of the lounge bar; there's also a dog park on site.

Upper area FHU gravel travel trailer campsite (super)

Liked I’d give this site a 5/10 site was easy to get onto although the road leading up to the touring site pitches could become difficult if all the cars that park outside the static vans were parked the site is on an uphill gradient with the sea views only for the tent pitches. The onsite shops was stocked well with limited choice. Lots of toilets and showers which were clean and water ran hot not that we used the pool but it looked ok and the mini arcade was fun. The walks along the cliff edge was fantastic but the beach not accessible unless you find somewhere to scramble down but if you do manage to it’s great

Disliked The pitches were not level and the gravel very compacted and no fencing or bushes between pitches. Staff not that welcoming almost like they didn’t want to be there. Bar only open Fri Sat and Sun and chip shop only open Fri Sat. No gate to the fence stopping people coming onto the site or kids going off to play with could be dangerous with the steep cliffs. We had a dog on lead but that was not happening across the site. Not trying to portray a bad image just be realistic overall the site is ok and we did enjoy being there just think there’s plenty of room for improvement which would make it a top place to stay.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review. We’re pleased to hear you found the site easy to access, the facilities clean, the shop well stocked, and that you enjoyed the pool, arcade and cliff top walks.

We do show our touring pitches as they are in the photos, without bushes, fencing or screening between each pitch. The park is set on a coastal hillside, so some areas are naturally sloping.

We are located on a 300ft cliff top. It is not a sheer cliff, but we do not advertise direct beach access from the park. The beach can be reached from other nearby access points, and many guests choose us for the coastal walks and sea views rather than direct beach access.

Opening times for the bar and chip shop vary depending on the time of year and how busy the park is, which is why they are not open every day outside peak periods.

We appreciate your comments and are glad that overall you enjoyed your stay. Your feedback has been noted.

Local attractions

Leave the car behind: buses running between Scarborough and Bridlington pick up from the end of the Crows Nest Caravan Park drive and discount day tickets are available to keep more money for seaside rock. The kids will probably clamour first for Scarborough: there are the North Bay and South Bay beaches to bounce around as well as the traditional seaside fairground and donkey rides. But Scarborough’s also a hotspot for culture vultures, with the Scarborough Open Air Theatre, Scarborough Art Gallery and Rotunda Museum alongside regular festivals and events throughout the year. Fab Filey is even closer: this Edwardian town has a five-mile stretch of sand and is backed by the peninsula and cliffs of Filey Brigg – this is the place to birdwatch and wildlife spot, with rockpools along the beach and many species of birds and beasts to see all year round. The 110-mile Cleveland Way starts here for hiking your way around Yorkshire’s history and heritage: Scarborough Castle, Whitby Abbey and Dracula tales, Mount Grace Priory and Rievaulx Abbey are all along the route. Away from the seaside and vampires, puff between Whitby and Pickering on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, veer between villages in the North York Moors National Park or get citified around York and Hull, all within easy driving distance of Crows Nest.
