  • Dog-friendly park five miles from Scarborough and 2.5 from Filey
  • Award-winning amenities block, family bathroom and launderette
  • Indoor heated pool, lounge bar, family bar, play area and supermarket
Feel free as a bird at award-winning Crows Nest Caravan Park between Scarborough and Filey – this well-maintained place is roomy, green and has sea views overlooking gorgeous Gristhorpe Bay and Scarborough Castle. Crows Nest is five miles from Scarborough and two and a half miles from Filey, but if you’re taking a break from the seaside/ exploring the North Yorkshire coast there’s loads to do on site too: a lounge bar with entertainment in peak season to suit all ages and tastes, a family bar with pool tables, a games room, a play area for little fledglings and a heated indoor pool with poolside assistants during high season. The award-winning amenities block a short walk from the tent field has free hot showers, wash basins, hairdryers and socket/shaver points, and there are also family bathrooms and a disabled-access shower room. Elsewhere on site there’s a washing-up area, launderette, chemical disposal point and well-stocked supermarket. And, as you can’t come to the coast and not have fish and chips, there’s also a chippy takeaway open in high season (but they do have more fish and chips in Scarborough too). Bringing the family friend? Crows Nest Caravan Park is dog-friendly and dogs are allowed in the conservatory area of the lounge bar; there's also a dog park on site.

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite (overflow)

Liked Spacious bottom field. Pitch tent where you want in designated fields. Cleanliness of facilities, bar area and grounds. Portaloos available in bottom field. Mega usefully stocked shop that has everything at reasonable prices. Canny evening entertainment that didn't go on too late. Pool available that kids liked. Info/shop/pool open long hours. Staff friendly. Quality fish n chips, breakfast and evening hot food available. Decent playpark that kids liked.

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked We had a fantastic stay at the campsite and overall, everything was amazing. The facilities were great, and it was particularly well suited to families with children. There was plenty to keep the kids entertained, and we really enjoyed our time here. The campsite itself had a lovely atmosphere, and we would definitely consider returning.

Disliked Unfortunately, the toilets were a real let-down and didn’t match the standard of the rest of the campsite. The floors were often extremely dirty and covered in water and mud, particularly in the family toilet areas. There didn’t appear to be any tools available for campers to wipe up water themselves, such as floor brushes or squeegees. I appreciate that some of the mess is caused by a lack of consideration from certain campers, but having cleaning tools available would make it much easier for people to leave the facilities clean for the next person. During busy periods, I also feel that the toilets would benefit from more frequent cleaning sessions. With improved cleaning and a few simple measures to help campers keep the floors tidy, the facilities would be much better.

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite (overflow)

Liked They did provide toilets and bins for your waste, and we were able to pitch together
As we were on the overflow site.

Disliked Unfortunately the showers and pot washing, were on the site near the caravans which was quite a distant away on the other side of the site., and only 3 of them.

From the manager: Thank you for your review.

We are pleased to hear you were able to pitch together and that the overflow field provided toilets and waste bins for your stay.

The overflow field is used during very busy periods when the main camping areas are already full. From your review, it sounds like this may have been a last minute booking, and booking earlier would usually give more choice of pitch types and locations.

The overflow field is not made up of designated pitches, so guests choose where to pitch within the available space. This also means the distance to the main toilet, shower and pot washing facilities is partly chosen by the guest depending on where they decide to set up.

Thank you for your feedback.

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked Freedom to select our own pitch, Nice clean facilities, frequently cleaned several times daily. Pub, pool arcade, play park, dog park, good for small kids. Teen harder to entertain, but park had wifi close to main buildings, and area had good phone reception, so no real issues with getting them connected. Washup area, was brilliant, no queue, which always puts a smile on my face personally.

Disliked Visitors with dogs off leads, We have a Cane Corso, Well behaved, family loving dog. We always, Always! have a lead on him outdoors, not because he's dangerous to people in any way, but because he wants to play with other dogs. Other owners get frightened at the pure size of him, over react and panic. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU KEEP ALL DOGS ON A LEAD. It's not fair that our dog was forced to spend most of his holiday, in our tent.

From the manager: Thank you for your review, Charel.

We are pleased to hear you enjoyed the freedom to choose your own pitch, and that you found the facilities clean and regularly maintained. It is great to know the pub, pool, arcade, play park, dog park and wash up area all added to your stay.

We completely agree with your comments regarding dogs being kept on leads. All dogs must be kept on a lead around the park for the safety and comfort of all guests and other dogs. Even friendly dogs can worry other guests or animals when they are off lead, so this rule is important and applies to everyone.

We are sorry this affected your stay with your own dog, especially when you were doing the right thing by keeping him on a lead. We will continue to remind guests of this rule and ask that anyone seeing dogs off lead reports it to the team at the time so we can deal with it directly.

Thank you for recommending us, and we hope to welcome you back to Crows Nest again.

Local attractions

Leave the car behind: buses running between Scarborough and Bridlington pick up from the end of the Crows Nest Caravan Park drive and discount day tickets are available to keep more money for seaside rock. The kids will probably clamour first for Scarborough: there are the North Bay and South Bay beaches to bounce around as well as the traditional seaside fairground and donkey rides. But Scarborough’s also a hotspot for culture vultures, with the Scarborough Open Air Theatre, Scarborough Art Gallery and Rotunda Museum alongside regular festivals and events throughout the year. Fab Filey is even closer: this Edwardian town has a five-mile stretch of sand and is backed by the peninsula and cliffs of Filey Brigg – this is the place to birdwatch and wildlife spot, with rockpools along the beach and many species of birds and beasts to see all year round. The 110-mile Cleveland Way starts here for hiking your way around Yorkshire’s history and heritage: Scarborough Castle, Whitby Abbey and Dracula tales, Mount Grace Priory and Rievaulx Abbey are all along the route. Away from the seaside and vampires, puff between Whitby and Pickering on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, veer between villages in the North York Moors National Park or get citified around York and Hull, all within easy driving distance of Crows Nest.
