Crows Nest Caravan Park

Liked We were disappointed to say the least,
Most camp sites close the end of October after the half term break.
But we arrived to find the swimming pool closed along with the site shop.
The lounge bar only open on an evening. Any families bringing young children would find it very hard to keep them entertained,specially with the storm we had that weekend.

Liked We stayed here from Friday 23rd of October until Sunday 25th of October.
Great Location for the coastal path walks and surrounding areas. Due to the time of year the site was quite which suited us fine.

Disliked Due to the storm, not the sites problem other tourers and campers naturally used the toilets within their own caravans, all of which needed to be emptied. Unfortunately as everyone decided to empty their toilets the disposal point became clogged and full. Not the fault of the site, purely the fault of the inconsiderate campers who chose to add to the issue by emptying their waste with the expectancy that someone else would clean up their mess. We were on the top level and simply walked to find an alternative disposal point. I cant comment on the Pool or the shop as they were closed for the season, we knew this before we travelled. We did have the onsite Fish and Chips one evening, in honesty I've had better so if you're longing for the Seaside fish and Chip experience take the drive into Scarborough, we would've but the storm kicked in.

Disliked More of the facilities open considering it was half term. The pool was closed the onsite store was closed.

Seasonal facility closures are explained in the policies shown on Pitchup before booking. We provide this information so guests can make an informed choice, but we cannot ensure everyone reads it.

Liked It is a spacious and well kept park with very clean toilet facility's. We went off season so a lot of the extra amenities such as the shop and pool were closed. However there is a large Spar at the filling station at the bottom of the road which is very good and should have everything you need, it's also open 24hrs. No barriers or anything for controlling access, not sure if that's a good thing or not. Bright enough at night to walk around. The fish & chip shop which was open a few days of the week was quite nice.

Disliked Again Wifi was pretty dreadful, which spoilt it for the kids and made streaming anything impossible, even Youtube on the lowest quality setting. This needs updating, for some reason the only decent signal was in the toilet block but even then the data rate was hopeless, it's 2026 folks, you need good WIFI. Quite exposed to the wind for the touring caravans and we were shaken all over the place, some tree's and hedges would not go amiss. Not a good site for visiting York as the roads are terrible and despite it being only 23 miles away, that still took over an hour! The kids did complain that the water tasted like mud, have to admit my coffee did seems odd, so they had milk instead. The motion controlled lights in the toilet block go out at night while still in the shower (or on the toilet) requiring you to wave your hand under the door to get at least one to come on (the far end one). Kids complained about this a lot. Is this a good idea or just a safety hazard?

From the manager: We’re pleased to hear you found the park spacious, well maintained and the toilet facilities very clean. It’s also good to know you enjoyed the fish and chip shop and appreciated the nearby 24-hour Spar.

Regarding the WiFi, we think there has been some misunderstanding about what we actually provide. We offer free WiFi around our main facilities, which is clearly advertised on numerous posters around the park and in the information provided to every guest at check-in. Our WiFi is not designed or advertised to provide coverage across the touring caravan pitches. If you managed to pick up a signal at your pitch, that was purely by chance rather than by design. We therefore feel it is a little unfair to criticise the speed or streaming capabilities of a service that was never intended to work in that area.

Regarding the wind, we are a coastal cliff top park, so naturally we can experience windy conditions, particularly towards the end of October during recognised storms. Many guests specifically choose our spacious, open pitches for the views and surroundings, rather than having trees and hedges separating every pitch.

We’re also a little confused by your comments about York. York is over 40 miles away by road, not 23 miles, and the journey typically takes around an hour. We have never advertised ourselves as being particularly close to York. Our location is ideal for exploring the Yorkshire Coast, including Scarborough, Filey and the surrounding area, rather than being a base for visiting York.

The toilet and shower block uses motion activated lighting to reduce unnecessary energy consumption. We appreciate your comments about the sensors and will review their settings to ensure they provide sufficient time and coverage, particularly in the showers.

Finally, as you mentioned, you visited towards the end of October when the park is naturally much quieter. Our seasonal facilities and opening periods are advertised on our website and included in the booking information, so guests can make an informed decision before visiting.

We appreciate your feedback and are glad you recognised the cleanliness, maintenance and spaciousness of the park. However, we do feel some of your disappointment relates to expectations of facilities and a location that we have never advertised as offering.

Keeping facilities open when too few guests are around to use them is not viable, which is why many seasonal businesses in Scarborough and around the area close during quieter months.
