  • Dog-friendly park five miles from Scarborough and 2.5 from Filey
  • Award-winning amenities block, family bathroom and launderette
  • Indoor heated pool, lounge bar, family bar, play area and supermarket
Feel free as a bird at award-winning Crows Nest Caravan Park between Scarborough and Filey – this well-maintained place is roomy, green and has sea views overlooking gorgeous Gristhorpe Bay and Scarborough Castle. Crows Nest is five miles from Scarborough and two and a half miles from Filey, but if you’re taking a break from the seaside/ exploring the North Yorkshire coast there’s loads to do on site too: a lounge bar with entertainment in peak season to suit all ages and tastes, a family bar with pool tables, a games room, a play area for little fledglings and a heated indoor pool with poolside assistants during high season. The award-winning amenities block a short walk from the tent field has free hot showers, wash basins, hairdryers and socket/shaver points, and there are also family bathrooms and a disabled-access shower room. Elsewhere on site there’s a washing-up area, launderette, chemical disposal point and well-stocked supermarket. And, as you can’t come to the coast and not have fish and chips, there’s also a chippy takeaway open in high season (but they do have more fish and chips in Scarborough too). Bringing the family friend? Crows Nest Caravan Park is dog-friendly and dogs are allowed in the conservatory area of the lounge bar; there's also a dog park on site.

What customers say

This is a well-kept, friendly spot with great facilities, offering beautiful ocean views and easy access to coastal trails. Guests loved the clean restrooms and showers, well-stocked shop, and fun amenities like the pool and fish & chips stand. Though it gets busy, especially in peak season, most found it a fantastic family destination. A few minor upkeep/cleanliness notes, but overall, highly recommended and many plan to return.

Liked On site pool

Disliked Toilets were filthy, generally the whole place wasn’t very clean

From the manager: Thank you for your review, Stephen.

We are pleased to hear you liked having the swimming pool on site.

We are sorry to hear you felt the toilets and general cleanliness were not as they should have been during your stay. The facilities are cleaned and checked regularly throughout the day, but during very busy periods they can unfortunately be left in a poor condition very quickly by some guests between cleans.

Crows Nest was extremely busy over the bank holiday period, and the weather conditions were also against us, with more mud and mess being carried around the site and into the facilities than usual. While our team work hard to keep on top of the park, cleanliness also relies on guests using the facilities respectfully and leaving them as they would hope to find them.

Thank you for your feedback.

Definitely worth a visit , we planning another already

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite

Liked We love Crows Nest and now come every year. The site is fantastic for children and adults. My kids particularly loved the play park, entertainment and swimming. The site is also very well located making Scarborough and Bridlington a short drive away. The shower blocks are clean and tidy also.

Disliked The only issue we had whilst staying is the pool changing facilities and the pool area being generally dirty and it felt unclean. Also this can't be helped but the wind on the top of the hill is bad even when gentle, so remember to bring storm straps for the tent.

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely review, Jessica.

We are really pleased to hear you love Crows Nest and now visit every year.

It is great to know the children enjoyed the play park, entertainment and swimming pool, and that you find the location so convenient for Scarborough and Bridlington.

We are glad the shower blocks were clean and tidy, and we appreciate your comments regarding the pool changing facilities. These areas are checked regularly, but during busy periods they can unfortunately be left untidy very quickly depending on how guests use them.

As you mention, being on the top of a cliff does mean the site can be exposed to the wind at times, so storm straps are a sensible idea for tents.

Thank you for recommending us, and we look forward to welcoming you back again next year.

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite (overflow)

Liked Family place with option of pool and well stocked shop.

Nice option of fish and chips and other takeaway food over the weekend.

Disliked The cleanliness of the toilet and washing amenities was poor.

Over the stay, it declined further as the days went on. The portoloos as you can imagine were awful.

The lower toilet block was filthy with toilet paper thrown everywhere, the upper block declined, again became filthy. Many times the washing areas for pots were a mess. Other campers commenting the same.

The changing area in the swimming pool again filthy.

Swimming pools became full quickly, it is small, booking system at peak times would be beneficial.

From the manager: Thank you for your review.

We are pleased to hear you found Crows Nest a good family place, with the option of the pool, a well stocked shop and food available over the weekend.

We are sorry to hear the toilet, washing and pool changing facilities were not as you would have liked during your stay. August bank holiday weekend is the busiest time of the year, and the facilities are under constant heavy use throughout the day.

They are cleaned and checked regularly, but during peak periods they can be left in a poor condition very quickly by some guests between cleans. Toilet paper being thrown around, washing areas being left in a mess and portaloos being misused are all frustrating for other guests and for the staff who have to keep dealing with them.

The overflow field is used at the busiest times when the main camping areas are already full, and portable toilets are provided there for convenience. We appreciate they are not the same as the main toilet blocks, but they do provide an additional facility for guests staying in that area.

With regards to the pool, it is advertised as a smaller family pool with slides, not a large leisure complex. It can naturally become busy during peak times, especially when the weather encourages more people indoors.

Thank you for your feedback.

Primitive grass tent or RV campsite (overflow)

Liked The pool was a nice touch. Chilled and relaxed atmosphere, good shop on site. Entertainment is good and the pub is also very good.

Disliked Water points are a long way from the overflow field (majority of tent pitches). Beers on tap aren’t very good. Ice in the shop felt like they’d broken down normal sized ice bags into tiny little bags and sold them at £1.50 a pop. Play park - we didn’t see as it’s a long way away from the bottom field.

From the manager: Thank you for your review, Matt.

We are pleased to hear you enjoyed the pool, relaxed atmosphere, shop, entertainment and pub during your stay.

With regards to the overflow field, pitches are not designated, so guests choose where they pitch within the available space. This means the distance to water points, facilities or other areas of the park will depend on where guests decide to set up.

The overflow field is used during the busiest periods when the main camping areas are already full, so it is more basic than other areas of the park.

Thank you for recommending us, and we are glad you enjoyed the site overall.

Upper area FHU gravel travel trailer campsite (super)

Liked Good location for discovering this part of Yorkshire
Great level pitch with easy drain and water connections.
Large toilet block
Clean and tidy site even on a very busy bank holiday
Excellent on site chip shop with good reasonable prices

Disliked Not a refundable booking.
Things in life happen and unfortunately you can’t make those breaks.
I nearly didn’t book as payment in full was expected up front months before arriving
Wouldn’t book again because of this as there’s lots to choose from in that area

Liked Great pitches , clean site , requested to be near family and amenities and both was met , great chippy everything fresh , didn't use the breakfast bar but was always busy, friendly staff , well stocked shop at reasonable prices along , with reasonable bar prices good entertainment, toilets and showers was clean considering it was school holidays.

Disliked Nothing to dislike , game a bingo would of been nice lol 😆

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely review, Deborah.

We are really pleased to hear you had a great stay and will be returning.

It is great to know you liked the pitches and that we were able to meet your request to be near family and amenities.

We are glad you enjoyed the fresh fish and chips, well stocked shop, reasonable bar prices, entertainment, friendly staff and clean facilities during the school holidays.

With regards to bingo, this is not something we provide at Crows Nest, nor is it something we are looking to introduce, but we are pleased you still found plenty to enjoy during your stay.

Thank you for recommending us, and we look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

Liked Views, facilities, location. It was lovely. We will definitely be back next year.

Disliked Too far away from disabled facilities for my husband. The gravel made it difficult for him to go on his mobility scooter so had to drive there. Maybe closer next time

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review, Yvonne.

We are really pleased to hear you loved your stay and enjoyed the views, facilities and location. It is lovely to know you had a relaxing few days and are already planning to return next year.

With regards to the disabled facilities, we had originally allocated you close to them as requested. Unfortunately, when your dates were changed, it made this impossible due to the availability at that time.

All of our touring pitches are gravel all weather super pitches. This helps prevent pitches from becoming muddy and unusable during bad weather, but we do appreciate that gravel may not be ideal for all mobility scooters.

If you return, please do let us know your requirements as early as possible so we can do our best to place you as close as we can to the facilities you need.

Thank you for recommending us, and of course we would be very happy to welcome you back to Crows Nest again.

Local attractions

Leave the car behind: buses running between Scarborough and Bridlington pick up from the end of the Crows Nest Caravan Park drive and discount day tickets are available to keep more money for seaside rock. The kids will probably clamour first for Scarborough: there are the North Bay and South Bay beaches to bounce around as well as the traditional seaside fairground and donkey rides. But Scarborough’s also a hotspot for culture vultures, with the Scarborough Open Air Theatre, Scarborough Art Gallery and Rotunda Museum alongside regular festivals and events throughout the year. Fab Filey is even closer: this Edwardian town has a five-mile stretch of sand and is backed by the peninsula and cliffs of Filey Brigg – this is the place to birdwatch and wildlife spot, with rockpools along the beach and many species of birds and beasts to see all year round. The 110-mile Cleveland Way starts here for hiking your way around Yorkshire’s history and heritage: Scarborough Castle, Whitby Abbey and Dracula tales, Mount Grace Priory and Rievaulx Abbey are all along the route. Away from the seaside and vampires, puff between Whitby and Pickering on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, veer between villages in the North York Moors National Park or get citified around York and Hull, all within easy driving distance of Crows Nest.
