General

  • Wild camping on a peaceful 75-acre historic farm estate
  • Within the Snowdonia National Park, 10 minutes' drive from Dolgellau
  • Easy access to the Mawddach Trail and local walking/bike trails

Cefn Coed is a spacious wild camping site in a particularly gorgeous Gwynedd location, within the Snowdonia National Park and about 10 minutes’ drive from both the market town of Dolgellau and the seaside at Fairbourne.

If you’ve come to this corner of north Wales for the scenery, you should be pleased with your lot here: it’s in a sheltered valley of ancient oak woodlands, close to where the slopes of Cadair Idris roll down to the banks of the Mawddach Estuary. The site is part of a historic Welsh farm estate that can trace its roots back to the 17th century and now covers a splendid 75 acres of farmland and forest (if you want peace, this is the place – the nearest neighbours are almost a mile away).

It’s also a fab spot to be in if you’re looking to get out and about: miles of walking, cycling and riding paths are easily accessible, including the downhill trails at Coed-y-Brenin mountain bike centre and the famed Mawddach Trail (which you can follow all the way to Dolgellau, Fairbourne and Barmouth, or to a tiptop local pub/restaurant if you’re not feeling quite so energetic). Guests can also get out onto the circular route just above the property for some further viewpoints.

As you'd expect for wild camping, facilities on site are pretty simple but guests can use the toilets at the farmhouse. Water is available but must be boiled before consumption. The distance between the car parking and pitches is variable and parking by the pitch can't be guaranteed. Pitches are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis; if you have a particular request please let the site know and they'll do their best to accommodate you.

Please note

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

Continental touring caravans (caravans built with the door on the right-hand side) are not permitted.

If making a fire, the fuel, logs and coal have to be purchased on site.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

Lovely staff, really beautiful location. You can "wild camp" in the the forest where there's forest walk to an estuary. Or you can camp in a field with a mountain view. They sell chicken eggs and firewood, you can have a fire anywhere as long as you make a stone circle. The stars were super clear with no pollution about.
They have toilets and spring water available. There's some wifi at the farmhouse that they let us use to make PayPal payments if needed.
All in all, it's dope, do it

Location is great. Wild camping pitches are a great change from the usual fields you get.

Very friendly staff, even when busy.

    Disliked:

Maybe a tad expensive for the 'wild camping' luxury of taking your own rubbish away with you - but honestly don't let this put you off, location and staff make up for it all! :)
