Idyllic Woodland Pitches
Secluded personal pitches
Our tent pitch, so separate from any other campers, felt very private
Our riverside pitch, under two great oaks, with ponies in the field on each side

  • Simple pitches on a peaceful 75-acre historic farm estate
  • Within Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park; Dolgellau 10 minutes' drive
  • Easy access to the Mawddach Trail and local walking/bike trails
Spacious pitches… seaside strolls… Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park… if such phrases fill your heart with glee, you should be pretty content at Cefn Coed. This spacious site is in a gorgeous Gwynedd location, within the national park and about 10 minutes’ drive from both the market town of Dolgellau and the coast at Fairbourne. If you’ve come to north Wales for the scenery, you should be pleased with your lot here: it’s in a sheltered valley of ancient oak woodlands, close to where the slopes of Cadair Idris roll down to the banks of the Mawddach Estuary. The site is part of a historic Welsh farm estate with 75 acres of farmland and forest – and the nearest neighbours are almost a mile away. Miles of walking, cycling and riding paths are easily accessible, including the famed Mawddach Trail (follow it all the way to Dolgellau, Fairbourne and Barmouth, or to a tiptop local pub/restaurant). There is also a circular route just above the property with some further viewpoints. Facilities on site include an amenities block with showers, toilets and a washing-up area. Filtered mountain spring drinking water is provided near the farmhouse, along with a freezer for ice packs and a facility for charging phones or small battery packs. During high season, the on-site bar serves local ales and cocktails. There is a food truck during high season where you can pre-order woodfired pizzas and morning coffee and croissants. Book yourself onto an on-site course or activity too, like guided local walks, bushcraft, sound baths and foraging courses. The distance between the car park and pitches is variable and parking by the pitch can't be guaranteed. Pitches are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis; if you have a particular request please let the site know and they'll do their best to accommodate you.

Oak Woodland non-electric forest floor tent pitch

Liked The set-up and staff were great. This place has centrally located facilities and a bar!

Billy was great and always around if you needed. The plots are also well set-out. We got Smugglers path which is ideal for a bit more seclusion.

Disliked Would be good to have another drinking/ washing spot fir the tents further down. But not essential.

Oak Woodland non-electric forest floor tent pitch

Liked My partner and I had a lovely stay here. We chose to stay in one of the woodland pitches which was beautiful, spacious and made a lovely home for few days. We loved hearing the wildlife, especially the owls at night. The facilities were good and always kept clean. The pizza bar which was open on the Saturday night was delicious and kust what we needed after a long day walking. Highly recommend this campsite location wise. We love hiking and there are some amazing footpaths and peaks closeby as well as some easier walks near the estuary.

Disliked We would have liked to have more choice over our pitch as we were in the pitch closest to the entrance to the woodland pitches which meant all the other campers constantly walking by and could see in which was fine it just meant it wasn't as peaceful and private as we might have liked, but when we arrived our pitch jad been pre-allocated.

Wooded non-electric grass and earth campervan pitch

Liked The entire site was totally perfect! We had chosen & booked to camp under the trees, to which there was full easy access to our pitch & all facilities were close by. The site manager on our arrival was extremely friendly, happy & gave us all of the information. The site is perfectly positioned for touring the area & very easy to find. We have absolutely loved our break away, will definitely revisit the site & recommend to everyone!

Oak Woodland non-electric forest floor tent pitch

Liked The pitch was fantastic, lots of space. Great location and the views were absolutely stunning. The staff were exceptional and very helpful when needed.

Disliked During the mornings and afternoon the main road nearby could be heard (just an observation). Not quite as peaceful as we’d hoped, being from the city.

Oak Woodland non-electric forest floor tent pitch

Liked Cracking views, decent sized pitches, friendly staff, provided wheel barrows to carry stuff to and from the car and plenty of good walks to do locally.

Disliked How far the toilets were to the pitch, it wasn’t a bad walk, but from where we were, especially in the dark, it felt long and all up hill. Perhaps a closer toilet or even a porta potty dotted about would be beneficial.

Wooded non-electric grass and earth campervan pitch

Liked Absolutely love this place. I was in a roof tent and chose a woodland pitch. I was after a wild ish camping experience and boy did this deliver! Beautiful place and very quiet. No speakers for music allowed which I thought was a good idea. Definitely going back!

Liked Everything!
Surrounded by nature at its best. Lovely welcoming staff, I loved the community feel and bar. Facilities are super clean and has everything you need. Little shop is great. We will be back to do the wild foraging workshops and pizza 👍🏻

Local attractions

Ready to ramble? Take a wander around Abergwynant Woods, 20 minutes’ walk away, or get set to conquer Cadair Idris, the slopes of which you can reach on foot in a couple of hours. The New Precipice Walk (15 minutes’ drive) is a fab choice for spectacular views; if you’re more into moving at speed, make for the mountain bike trails at Coed-y-Brenin forest park (also 15 minutes). For less energetic days out, take fishing rods off to the banks of Cregennan Lakes (15 minutes) or Tal-y-llyn Lake (20 minutes) or make a break for the seaside at Fairbourne (10 minutes), where you can ride the heritage railway for a properly chilled-out time, or Barmouth (20 minutes). Keen to see what lies beneath? Take a boat ride into a world of subterranean dragons and the like at King Arthur’s Labyrinth (25 minutes). Back up in the daylight, ancient Cymer Abbey (10 minutes) and the fab Italianate village of Portmeirion (40 minutes) are top ports of call.
