Idyllic woodland pitches
Secluded personal pitches
Tent pitch
Riverside pitch, under two great oaks, with ponies in the field on each side

  • Simple pitches on a peaceful 75-acre historic farm estate
  • Within Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park; Dolgellau 10 minutes' drive
  • Easy access to the Mawddach Trail and local walking/bike trails
Spacious pitches… seaside strolls… Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park… if such phrases fill your heart with glee, you should be pretty content at Cefn Coed. This spacious site is in a gorgeous Gwynedd location, within the national park and about 10 minutes’ drive from both the market town of Dolgellau and the coast at Fairbourne. If you’ve come to north Wales for the scenery, you should be pleased with your lot here: it’s in a sheltered valley of ancient oak woodlands, close to where the slopes of Cadair Idris roll down to the banks of the Mawddach Estuary. The site is part of a historic Welsh farm estate with 75 acres of farmland and forest – and the nearest neighbours are almost a mile away. Miles of walking, cycling and riding paths are easily accessible, including the famed Mawddach Trail (follow it all the way to Dolgellau, Fairbourne and Barmouth, or to a tiptop local pub/restaurant). There is also a circular route just above the property with some further viewpoints. Facilities on site include an amenities block with showers, toilets and a washing-up area. Filtered mountain spring drinking water is provided near the farmhouse, along with a freezer for ice packs and a facility for charging phones or small battery packs. During high season, the on-site bar serves local ales and cocktails. There is a food truck during high season where you can pre-order woodfired pizzas and morning coffee and croissants. Book yourself onto an on-site course or activity too, like guided local walks, bushcraft, sound baths and foraging courses. The distance between the car park and pitches is variable and parking by the pitch can't be guaranteed. Pitches are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis; if you have a particular request please let the site know and they'll do their best to accommodate you.

What customers say

A tranquil, nature-filled escape. Ponderosa Park offers secluded, spacious pitches nestled in woodland and meadow. Highlights include friendly staff, superb walks, clean facilities, and a popular bar/pizza spot. Be aware of potential queues for toilets/showers during busy periods and limited water points. Stunning location with easy access to local sights.

Wooded unpowered grass and earth campervan site (no cars)

Liked We liked this woodland site with easy access on foot to different walks; hilly ones and flat, mostly fairly shaded, ones to Barmouth and Dolgellau. The site staff are friendly and the showers are good. There is a covered area with benches where you can charge devices and read or play games. We enjoyed our visits from a Robin and her two babies as well as other birds.

Disliked We would have liked easier access to the freezer so we could change our ice blocks more often.

Wooded unpowered grass and earth campervan site (no cars)

Liked Food on site. Showers and toilets were clean.

Disliked As a local couple we have looked at here a few times as it sounds up our alley... back in the day it used to be a hub for the best steaks in the area when it was originally a pub, but every time we've tried to book it's always busy We paid for a woodland pitch... there were trees I guess, but next to the car park, and people kept using the entrance to the pitch as a turning circle. We paid 'extra' for the awning - not sure why being that we were a lone pitch with no1 around and not affecting anyone so was unsure why we had to pay extra for something on our own pitch. standing, little disappointed. The photography of the pitches were obviously done by a social media expert as it made it seem idyllic. Walking around the site there are pitches stuck in every nook and cranny, and buildings and creations popping up here there and everywhere - weird considering there's no planning permission for any of them - we went there as it stated that there was only around 14 pitches there yet as I stated they are popping up everywhere - almost seems its a money making exercise over experience - 4 toilets cannot cope with that many people.

Field unpowered grass campervan or tent site

Liked We were in a meadow. Good location. We felt safe. There is a fence and several gates. You have to walk quite a bit to the toilets and showers, you can also wash dishes there, there is a cafe and a shop. Although it is far from the tent area, it is good to get some exercise in the morning. There are no disturbances at night, it is quiet and peaceful. We liked it. Tip - use a good mosquito repellent. They are not afraid of the spray we had.

Local attractions

Ready to ramble? Take a wander around Abergwynant Woods, 20 minutes’ walk away, or get set to conquer Cadair Idris, the slopes of which you can reach on foot in a couple of hours. The New Precipice Walk (15 minutes’ drive) is a fab choice for spectacular views; if you’re more into moving at speed, make for the mountain bike trails at Coed-y-Brenin forest park (also 15 minutes). For less energetic days out, take fishing rods off to the banks of Cregennan Lakes (15 minutes) or Tal-y-llyn Lake (20 minutes) or make a break for the seaside at Fairbourne (10 minutes), where you can ride the heritage railway for a properly chilled-out time, or Barmouth (20 minutes). Keen to see what lies beneath? Take a boat ride into a world of subterranean dragons and the like at King Arthur’s Labyrinth (25 minutes). Back up in the daylight, ancient Cymer Abbey (10 minutes) and the fab Italianate village of Portmeirion (40 minutes) are top ports of call.
