  • Peaceful, fully serviced North Wales site on the edge of Snowdonia
  • A 10-minute drive to Caernarfon Castle; 20 to Zip World Penrhyn Quarry
  • Table tennis, skittles and pool on site, plus 20 acres to explore
With a magical setting overlooking Eryri (Snowdonia) hills, Rhyd y Galen is a peaceful caravan and camping park in rural North Wales. Fancy exploring the mountains of Eryri (Snowdonia), the beautiful North Wales coastline and the Isle of Anglesey? Then this is your place. For your ease, access to the grass camping pitches is via tarmac roads. Generous in size and fully serviced, they come with a whole host of facilities, from a spotless shower block, well lit at night for your convenience and complete with hair dryers to keep you looking your best, to a family-friendly baby-changing unit and a laundry. On hand are 20 acres of land for families (and any canine pals) wanting to be out walking, playing and exploring, and if the kids should get restless, keep them entertained with games of table tennis, table football, skittles or pool. If you need to stock up on groceries, there are several supermarkets in Caernarfon (10 minutes’ drive), and if you fancy making a night of it in the town’s pubs and restaurants, ditch the car and jump in a local taxi.

Fully-serviced grass tent pitch

Liked Excellent pitch with water & electric. Great WiFi signal, easy to access. Pitch felt private and sheltered. Site very well maintained. Staff who run it friendly and helpful. Showers, toilets, fridge, freezer, washing machine and dryer, ironing board, everything you could need for basic comforts, and always clean. Also pool table, table tennis and other games.
Lots of land to walk on, a lot of it left to nature but with good paths. Nice pond with bench. So many birds and insects about :-)
Within easy reach of Bangor, Caernarfon, Anglesey and Llyn Peninsula. Ideally located.
Half way through the week, some people arrived who let’s just say weren’t the best neighbours. They were promptly asked to leave. Staff take it seriously if people aren’t respecting site rules that are there to make sure no one’s holiday is ruined.
Would definitely stay here again and recommend to anyone who wants a peaceful and comfortable stay.

Disliked Nothing to dislike.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Great location, great facilities, the camping site for tents has a great back drop view of Snowdon. Plenty of space on each pitch, definitely will return. Easy check in, very helpful & patient as we arrived a lot later than expected due to motorway traffic.
Very quiet site, the shower block exceptionally clean & looked after.
Quiet, peaceful experience 10/10

Electric grass pitch

Liked Loved the location! We went up Snowden, Llanberis, Dinorwic and Anglesey (All pretty close) The camp is very well kept, we were down the bottom in the Tent Field and although we were out all day, it was very chilled atmosphere when we would come back. A couple of others like us having camp fires and just relaxing. Hired a fire pit that was only £10. We had a small toilet block at the end of the lot that had 2 toilets and a shower. All new and very clean and looked after and there were more blocks around the site! All round pleasant experience and I would stay here again.

Disliked For us, nothing! Nice camp, zero issues

Electric grass pitch

Liked Peaceful and relaxed. We booked a tent pitch with electric and we were pleasantly surprised to find we had been allocated a generously sized pitch, complete with its own water and electricity supply, within easy reach of the facilities. The facility blocks were always kept in excellent condition. The site seemed quiet and calm despite other campers coming and going throughout the week.

Electric grass pitch

Liked The campsite was very peaceful and although it seemed fully booked, very quiet and not crowded at all! The facilities were very clean & modern, the toilets and showers were well maintained and showers were very powerful! We stayed on an electric tent plot & we had plenty of space and were close to a block with some toilets & one shower which was handy to be close to. Sometimes the shower can get busy as there is only one, however the main shower block is a couple of minutes walk away so this wasn’t an issue. We also rented a fire pit for £5 for the night, the wardens were really helpful and picked up our fire pit and rubbish as we were packing up to leave as they saw us struggle a bit with the fire pit in our car when we picked it up! Overall we really enjoyed our stay!

Disliked Nothing at all- the only thing to consider when staying here is that the nearest beach is just under 20 mins drive away, and there is not much within walking distance, however this wasn’t too much of a problem for us!

Fully-serviced grass tent pitch

Liked This is the nicest campsite I’ve ever stayed at. The tent pitch was set in greenery and the area was landscaped and well maintained. It was fantastic having the water point at the tent as well as electric.
The washing and showering facilities were great! They were clearly cleaned regularly and with little ones (1 & 3 years old) having the option of shower rooms was brilliant.
Nothing was too far to go to on site but you felt away from everything at the tent.
Other guests at the site on the whole were friendly and respectful, one exception who we let the staff know about (music blaring).

Disliked A play ground for little ones. Just a swing, side, and climbing frame would make a big difference.

Local attractions

Standing where the Afont Seiont river meets the Menai Strait, Caernarfon Castle (10 minutes’ drive) is a forbidding medieval fortress and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Perhaps best known as the place where Prince Charles was invested in 1969, it also houses the Royal Welch Fusiliers Museum, which explores the history of this infantry regiment. If you’re in a ‘feel the fear, but do it anyway’ mood, you can head to Zip World Penrhyn Quarry (20 minutes), where the Velocity 2 zipline stretches across a lake, allowing you to travel at speeds of up to 100mph. If you are brave enough to keep your eyes open during your flight, you can also take in splendid views of Eryri (Snowdonia). For something less hair-raising, Portmeirion (40 minutes) is a village featuring Italian-inspired pastel-coloured buildings and lush sub-tropical vegetation. Grab an ice cream from Italian gelateria Caffi’r Angel, and take a leisurely stroll through the quaint streets or along the sandy beach on the Afon Dwyryd estuary.
