Quiet, clean site. good location for exploring North Wales, pleasant site staff.

    Disliked:

Poor site lighting, light on entry gate not working, difficult to site caravan due to narrow site road. plenty of blocks needed if your on the slope, amenities block too small for size of site.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review, we are glad you found the site clean and staff pleasant.
The lighting around the site is on PRI sensors so we don't cause a lot of light pollution which were all working, as were the lights on the toilet block in field one (we do have another toilet block in field four).
If customers struggle to get their caravan level the warden is always happy to help and would provide blocks if necessary.

The site was beautiful! Extremely Clean and very friendly. Very spacious. We felt like we were there on our own. The pitches are a great size and lots of room to make it your own. The showers were lovely and hot too! We can’t wait to come back next year.

    Disliked:

If we had to say something we disliked it was that we couldn’t park the car right next to our tent but everything else was perfect!

From the manager...

Thankyou for your lovely review, we hope to see you again next year.

Directions

Rhyd y Galen is located on the B4366 on the right-hand side two miles after Caernarfon. If you are travelling along the B4366 from the east, do not turn right down a farm track to the postcode LL55 1UL. Instead, proceed for 400 metres and look out for the Welsh flag on your left.

Local attractions

Standing where the Afont Seiont river meets the Menai Strait, Caernarfon Castle (10 minutes’ drive) is a forbidding medieval fortress and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Perhaps best known as the place where Prince Charles was invested in 1969, it also houses the Royal Welch Fusiliers Museum, which explores the history of this infantry regiment.

If you’re in a ‘feel the fear, but do it anyway’ mood, you can head to Zip World Penrhyn Quarry (20 minutes), where the Velocity 2 zipline stretches across a lake, allowing you to travel at speeds of up to 100mph. If you are brave enough to keep your eyes open during your flight, you can also take in splendid views of Snowdonia.

For something less hair-raising, Portmeirion (40 minutes) is a village featuring Italian-inspired pastel-coloured buildings and lush sub-tropical vegetation. Grab an ice cream from Italian gelateria Caffi’r Angel, and take a leisurely stroll through the quaint streets or along the sandy beach on the Afon Dwyryd estuary.

Must see

  • Caernarfon Castle (4.2 kilometres)
  • Snowdon Mountain Railway (8.4 kilometres)
  • National Slate Museum (8.4 kilometres)

National Trust

  • Plas Newydd Country House and Gardens (4.9 kilometres)
  • Ty^ Mawr Wybrnant (28.1 kilometres)
