Electric grass pitch

  • Peaceful, scenic North Wales site on the edge of Eryri (Snowdonia)
  • A 10-minute drive to Caernarfon Castle; 20 to Zip World Penrhyn Quarry
  • Table tennis, skittles and pool table on site; 20 acres to explore
With a magical setting overlooking Eryri (Snowdonia) hills, Rhyd y Galen is a peaceful caravan and camping park in rural North Wales. Fancy exploring the mountains of Eryri (Snowdonia), the stunning North Wales coastline and the Isle of Anglesey? Then this is your place. For your ease, access to the grass camping pitches is via tarmac roads. Generous in size and fully serviced, these pitches with a whole host of facilities, from a spotless shower block, well lit at night for your convenience and kitted out with hair dryers to keep you looking your best, to a family-friendly baby-changing unit and a laundry. On hand are 20 acres of land for families (and any canine pals) wanting to be out walking, playing and exploring, and if the kids should get restless, keep them entertained with games of table tennis, table football, skittles or pool. If you need to stock up on groceries, there are several supermarkets in Caernarfon (10 minutes’ drive), and if you fancy making a night of it in the town’s pubs and restaurants, ditch the car and jump in a local taxi.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Nice toilets and shower, big pitch , game room amazing for my teen

Disliked Non electric pitch is way too close to the main busy road, instead of birds we could hear cars all night long and it was noisy enough to wake me up few times
That’s arguing with the idea of relax in nature.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave a review, and we're glad your teen enjoyed the games room and that the facilities and pitch size impressed!

We're sorry to hear the road noise disrupted your sleep on the non-electric pitch. We completely understand how frustrating that must have been, especially when you're looking to switch off and enjoy the peace of the countryside. The proximity of the road to that particular area of the site is something we're aware of, and we'd always encourage guests to mention any preferences at the time of booking or on arrival so we can try to find the most suitable pitch. An electric pitch or one of our more sheltered spots further from the road may suit you better on a future visit.

We hope you'll give us another chance to show you what we can do!

Well kept site with clean facilities and god sized level pitches.

Electric grass pitch

Liked Absolutely loved this site. Met with a very welcoming reception, the site is spotless and very well maintained. I loved the little wc, shower and washing up units, again spotless. We had a corner grass pitch with electric hook to our small motorhome. WiFi available on site, FREE!!! I booked here so we were able to drive to the quarry for our Zipwire experience (about 25 mins drive away). This is the first time I’ve ever unhooked and drove off site to explore. There are so many stunning and interesting places to visit nearby. Will definitely return and take our dogs next time. If you want peace and quiet, near to lots of places to visit, this is the place for you.

Disliked Nothing to dislike

From the manager: Thank you so much for this wonderful review — we absolutely loved reading it!

We're thrilled the welcome, pitch and facilities all impressed, and it's great to hear the free WiFi went down well too — always a bonus! It sounds like you made the most of the area with the zipwire experience at the quarry — what a way to spend a day!

We're also delighted the site worked so well as a base for exploring, and we can't wait to welcome you back next time — with the dogs in tow! We're sure they'll love the dog field. 🐾

See you again soon!

Local attractions

Standing where the Afont Seiont river meets the Menai Strait, Caernarfon Castle (10 minutes’ drive) is a forbidding medieval fortress and a UNESCO World Heritage site. Perhaps best known as the place where Prince Charles was invested in 1969, it also houses the Royal Welch Fusiliers Museum, which explores the history of this infantry regiment. If you’re in a ‘feel the fear, but do it anyway’ mood, you can head to Zip World Penrhyn Quarry (20 minutes), where the Velocity 2 zipline stretches across a lake, allowing you to travel at speeds of up to 100mph. If you are brave enough to keep your eyes open during your flight, you can also take in splendid views of Eryri (Snowdonia). For something less hair-raising, Portmeirion (40 minutes) is a village featuring Italian-inspired pastel-coloured buildings and lush sub-tropical vegetation. Grab an ice cream from Italian gelateria Caffi’r Angel, and take a leisurely stroll through the quaint streets or along the sandy beach on the Afon Dwyryd estuary.
