What customers say

Auchenlarie Holiday Park is highly praised for its cleanliness, stunning sea views, and abundant family-friendly activities, including a swimming pool and play areas. Staff are consistently described as friendly and helpful. While many highlight the well-maintained facilities and beach access, some guests note that pitches can be uneven or sloped, and the site's hilly terrain may be a challenge for some. Occasional noise from birds or traffic is mentioned, and Wi-Fi is a paid service. Despite minor issues, the majority of visitors express a desire to return.

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked Great entertainment and facilities, private beach was incredible. Very well maintained site. Always something on for the kids, shop was a big bonus. Sports bar and kids section staff brilliant.

Disliked Pitch was on busy roadside (constant traffic until late and early morning) also next to waste disposal, not level either. Restaurant was online booking only (even when empty, staff no help) isnt great with no phone reception and a charge for using the wi-fi..

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to share your recent experience.
We genuinely appreciate all feedback, as it helps us improve the experience for all our guests.

We’re sorry to hear that you were disturbed by traffic noise during your stay. While we aim to create a peaceful and relaxing environment, we understand that external factors like traffic can occasionally impact that.

Regarding the restaurant booking system, we understand it may feel less spontaneous than walk-ins, especially while on holiday. The system is in place to help ensure availability and smooth service during peak times, but we’re actively reviewing how we can make it more flexible and guest-friendly in the future.

We hope to have the chance to welcome you back and provide an even better experience. If you do plan to visit again, please don’t hesitate to contact us in advance—we’d be happy to assist with quieter camping areas.

Would recommend and will definitely be going back.

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked Plenty of activities for our children, aged 11,8,1. Staff really friendly and helpful. Pitches really good size and can have multiple tents on and a paddling pool too.

Disliked Showers and toilets could do with being cleaned more regularly due the size of the park and with it being peak season too.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: We're really glad to hear that you and your family enjoyed your stay, especially that the kids had plenty to do and that our team made you feel welcome.
We appreciate your comments about the shower and toilet facilities. You're absolutely right — during peak season, the increased usage means we need to stay on top of cleaning more frequently. We’ve taken this on board and are already reviewing our cleaning schedule to improve this going forward.

Thanks again for taking the time to share your experience, and we hope to welcome you back soon

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Customer service, location, beach, pool, views.

Disliked Hardstanding was pretty grubby, with quite a lot of litter including teeth-flossing picks and cigarette ends. Very noisy at night from lots of other guests, with no apparent curfew or quiet time as large groups shouting, screaming and swearing into the early hours. I gave a 2 for child friendliness as the facilities (pool etc) were great for that but the non-stop swearing from people around us (as in the biggest swears, not even the wee ones) brought it right down. Lots of people seemed to leave their dogs in their caravans or vans for hours while they were in the disco/pub, meaning they would bark the whole time they were gone.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for bringing your concerns to our attention.

We take reports of inappropriate behavior such as swearing and littering very seriously, and we understand how this can negatively affect the environment and those within it.
Please know that maintaining a respectful and clean environment is a priority for us, and your feedback plays an important role in helping us uphold those standards.
Thanks again for taking the time to review our park and that on a whole your stay was a good one.

Really smoothly ran site, no problems encountered!

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked Everything. Customer service was absolutely amazing. Pitch for tent was clean and well labeled. Car parked very close by for easy access. Very close to the beach. Extremely clean toilet block with great shower facilities and a seperate washing up sink.

Swimming pool was good and not overcrowded. Child entertainers were engaging and my eldest loved going. Evening entertainment was also good.

Restaurant was busy but good.

We travelled with a 1 year old and found having the laundrette on site very useful and easy to use.

Local attractions

Trad fans, pop fans, bibliophiles and foodies can indulge their passions easily in the area: many local pubs have regular traditional music sessions and the region has a good handful of festivals of all flavours including the Wigtown Book Festival and Stranraer Oyster Festival. On the music front, tap your foot at the Galloway and Portpatrick folk festivals, both easy to get to from Auchenlarie, or go along to one of the folk clubs which meet regularly in Dalbeattie and Stranraer. By day, dander around the rest of Dumfries and Galloway for a range of things to do like coastal strolling around Wigtown and Luce Bay, fishing, championship golf courses and blossoming at the county’s public gardens and their exotic specimens flourishing in Galloway’s mild climate. Logan Botanic Garden on the Rhins of Galloway is filled with southern hemisphere plants and palm trees; take a hike up the park’s hill afterwards for views to take your breath away over the Rhins to the Galloway Hills. Red deer, wild goats and red kites are a few sights to see in nearby Galloway Forest Park to the north of Auchenlarie, Britain’s biggest forest park at 300 square miles, and with forest trails, lochside cycle paths, wildlife centres, horse-riding and mountain biking all to hand/hoof. The 24-mile Red Kite Trail around Loch Ken is level enough for cycling and has six outdoor viewing points, four hides and a visitor centre with CCTV open in summer; if you’d like to look skywards by night, Galloway Forest Park is the only Dark Sky Park in the UK and one of only four in the world. Dazzle your little darlings at the award-winning Creetown Gem Rock Museum, a jewel of an attraction near Newton Stuart with gemstones, crystals, rocks and fossils on display, interactive exhibits and the glow of the Crystal Cave. It’s one of several museums in Dumfries and Galloway including the Museum Newton Stewart, telling the history of the county, and the Robert Burns Centre in Dumfries, telling the story of the bard. To see historical sights on site, there are castles, abbeys and vintage buildings all around, such as Cardoness, Carsluith and Threave castles, Dundrennan Abbey, the motes of Mark and Urr, and towers at Drumcoltran and Orchardton.
