  • Family park with beach access and a private cove
  • Heated indoor pool, kids' club, leisure centre and solarium
  • Bistro restaurant, takeaway and two shops on site
First-class facilities, access to a beach with private cove, and with views over Wigtown Bay and miles of scenic Scottish countryside: there’s a lot to pick from at this gorgeous and hilly Galloway park, in an area where generations of holidaymakers have escaped to relax and unwind. Guests of all ages will be sorted at family-friendly Auchenlarie Holiday Park: kids’ clubs and family entertainment are on hand for small fry; older kids and teenagers can get competitive at fun-filed The Zone amusement arcade and games room, and all ages can splash safely about in the heated indoor pool, which has a separate area for smaller swimmers. The park’s craft activities will keep mini guests busy as the kids' club organises lots of options from face painting to making their own jewellery. These run in high season, and please note that there may be a small charge for some activities. The Auchenlarie team is also rightly proud of its smart leisure centre, which, as well as the pool, has a solarium for topping up tans, a sauna to relax in, and a fully-equipped gym. Guests can pay as they go for the use of these leisure facilities, or buy a daily or weekly pass on arrival for the park leisure and entertainment. The Surfside bistro has both smashing sea views and a menu of drinks, snacks and meals for alfresco dining on the large terrace overlooking the bay, and the park also has a takeaway dishing up tasty fresh pizzas. A large, well-stocked convenience store has all the bits you need for self-catering, and there's also a smaller shop in the main complex area. Elsewhere, have a spot of free sea fishing (bring your own equipment) down at the private cove during the day, head out to explore the area's fine walking and biking options, or sashay along to the Starlight Suite in the evenings for grownup merriment including live music nights.

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed the beach, that the kids had fun with the entertainment, and that you liked the swimming pool.

We appreciate your comments regarding the number of cars on site. As you mentioned, this is a reflection of the size of the park, but we understand it can make the site feel busy during peak times.

We're also sorry to hear that you found the food and drink prices in our dining areas to be expensive. We value all guest feedback and will share your comments with the relevant team as we continually review our offering.

We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you and your family back for another enjoyable stay.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Good clean site with good amenities and great scenery

Disliked Small pitches, had a caravan behind us with about 2m in between, pitch on a slope, rabbit droppings everywhere, food over priced, cater more for static caravans than motorhomes and caravans.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. We're delighted you enjoyed our clean facilities, amenities, and the beautiful scenery.

We're sorry to hear that some aspects of your stay didn't meet your expectations. As a rural park, our natural surroundings mean that local wildlife, including rabbits, are part of the environment, although we do our best to keep the grounds well maintained.

We're also sorry that you found your pitch smaller than expected and not as level as you had hoped. We appreciate that different guests have different space requirements, and your comments will be taken on board as we continue to improve our park. We're also grateful for your feedback regarding our food pricing and the balance of facilities for touring guests.

We appreciate your honest comments and hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future.

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked Nice clean facilities. Good sized pitches. Beautiful scenery, private beach was amazing. Auchfest was great for adults and kids.

Disliked No one checking on anti social behavior- 4 am a motor home with people outside were still up shouting, swearing , drinking. We did hear the security driving by but clearly they didn’t have windows down to hear.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review. We're delighted you enjoyed our clean facilities, spacious pitches, beautiful surroundings, private beach, and Auchfest.

We're sorry to hear your stay was affected by noise and antisocial behaviour. While our security team does patrol the park, we're disappointed they didn't identify the disturbance on this occasion. We also appreciate your feedback about the emergency contact number and will review how we make guests aware of it.

We hope to welcome you back for a more peaceful stay in the future.

Electric grass tent pitch

Liked Location of holiday park was excellent, the play parks for the kids was great and swimming pool was clean and tidy

Disliked Got put on the pitch site 4g tent site, the grass was 45 degree angle with no flat surface, phoned our of hours number and we thankfully got moved to up closer to the toilets on a flat bit of grass but still on a slope , heavy stream directly behind us when tenting with a 3 year old and no hot water to shower in the toilet block, it sounds like I'm having a go but if we got placed on a flat pitch and had hot water it would have just topped off whats was an amazing time away

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave your review. We're so pleased to hear that you enjoyed our fantastic location and that your family made the most of the play parks and our swimming pool.

We're very sorry to hear that your original camping pitch wasn't suitable and that you experienced issues with the hot water during your stay. We appreciate you bringing this to our attention, and we're glad our out-of-hours team was able to relocate you to a more suitable pitch.

Your feedback is invaluable, and we've shared your comments with our park team so we can review pitch allocation and investigate the hot water issue to help prevent this happening again.

Thank you again for your balanced feedback. We hope that, despite these issues, you'll consider visiting us again so we can provide you with the five-star experience you were hoping for.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked The site was so clean and tidy, the showers are spotless and hot. Staff were friendly and visible throughout the day. Lots of play area for kids inside and out and plenty of lovely places to get the dogs out for their own adventures.
Id booked the wrong dates and the staff changed them for me without any issue or charge.

Disliked We unfortunately booked the same days as the cast of watership down. Rabbits everywhere - ordinarily this would be soooo cute but with reactive Bulldogs we struggled to avoid carnage. Thankfully no wabbits were harmed by our dogs.

Getting WiFi would mean signing up to PayPal so we didnt bother but there was an Internet cafe available

Although accessible the site is hilly so those with mobility issues like myself should consider this when booking, there are paths to every venue though

From the manager: Thank you for taking the time to leave a review.

We're delighted to hear that you enjoyed the cleanliness of the site, our hot shower facilities, and the range of play areas for both children and dogs. It's also wonderful to know that our team was able to help with your booking amendment and that you found them friendly and visible throughout your stay.

We had to smile at your description of sharing the site with the "cast of Watership Down" The local wildlife certainly likes to make an appearance from time to time, although we appreciate that this can be a challenge for guests with reactive dogs. We're glad to hear that no rabbits came to any harm and hope your Bulldogs still managed to enjoy their stay.

Thank highlighting the Wi-Fi sign-up process and the site's hilly terrain. We understand that the gradients may be more challenging for some guests with mobility concerns, and we appreciate you sharing this information to help future visitors plan their stay. We're pleased that the accessible pathways around the park were helpful.

We hope to welcome you, your Bulldogs, and the rest of the family back again soon.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Kids entertainment during the day was excellant

Disliked The toilets on the touring part of the site only cleaned once a day and for the amount of people in and out just wasn't enough.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review.

We're delighted to hear that your children enjoyed the daytime entertainment team and that this was a highlight of your stay.

We also appreciate your honest feedback regarding the toilet facilities on the touring area. We are sorry that the cleanliness did not meet your expectations during your six-night stay. We understand how important clean and well-maintained facilities are to our guests, and we're disappointed to hear this detracted from your overall experience.
Our toilet blocks are cleaned twice daily and will be done again if we are notified that they are not up to someones expectations.
We have passed your comments to our housekeeping team, and we are reviewing our cleaning schedules for the touring facilities to ensure they are serviced more frequently during busy periods.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back in the future and provide a much-improved experience.

Local attractions

Trad fans, pop fans, bibliophiles and foodies can indulge their passions easily in the area: many local pubs have regular traditional music sessions and the region has a good handful of festivals of all flavours including the Wigtown Book Festival and Stranraer Oyster Festival. On the music front, tap your foot at the Galloway and Portpatrick folk festivals, both easy to get to from Auchenlarie, or go along to one of the folk clubs which meet regularly in Dalbeattie and Stranraer. By day, dander around the rest of Dumfries and Galloway for a range of things to do like coastal strolling around Wigtown and Luce Bay, fishing, championship golf courses and blossoming at the county’s public gardens and their exotic specimens flourishing in Galloway’s mild climate. Logan Botanic Garden on the Rhins of Galloway is filled with southern hemisphere plants and palm trees; take a hike up the park’s hill afterwards for views to take your breath away over the Rhins to the Galloway Hills. Red deer, wild goats and red kites are a few sights to see in nearby Galloway Forest Park to the north of Auchenlarie, Britain’s biggest forest park at 300 square miles, and with forest trails, lochside cycle paths, wildlife centres, horse-riding and mountain biking all to hand/hoof. The 24-mile Red Kite Trail around Loch Ken is level enough for cycling and has six outdoor viewing points, four hides and a visitor centre with CCTV open in summer; if you’d like to look skywards by night, Galloway Forest Park is the only Dark Sky Park in the UK and one of only four in the world. Dazzle your little darlings at the award-winning Creetown Gem Rock Museum, a jewel of an attraction near Newton Stuart with gemstones, crystals, rocks and fossils on display, interactive exhibits and the glow of the Crystal Cave. It’s one of several museums in Dumfries and Galloway including the Museum Newton Stewart, telling the history of the county, and the Robert Burns Centre in Dumfries, telling the story of the bard. To see historical sights on site, there are castles, abbeys and vintage buildings all around, such as Cardoness, Carsluith and Threave castles, Dundrennan Abbey, the motes of Mark and Urr, and towers at Drumcoltran and Orchardton.
