  • Site with its own private airstrip with restored aircraft
  • Within easy reach of Branscombe beach, Seaton and Beer
  • Safe and enclosed play area; games room; plenty of space for play
Branscombe Airfield and Camping is four miles from Sidmouth, Seaton and Beer, on the edge of Branscombe village and in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on Lyme Bay. The site has its own private airstrip, home to a range of vintage and classic aircraft, including a Stearman PT-17 and a Zlín 526. The resident pilots and restoration team are happy to show guests the current lineup when they are available; you may also see occasional flight activity (when pilot availability and weather/ground conditions permit). Branscombe has plenty of wide open space with views of Devon countryside and distant sea views. There are refurbished toilets and free showers, as well as a modern utilities block, a washing-up area and a launderette with a washing machine and tumble dryer. There's also a safe and enclosed play area with plenty of space to play football and other outdoor activities, and a small indoor games room is also available. Foodies can head out to two pubs within a mile and a half – one within a short 20-minute stroll.

Disliked Shower I used could have been cleaner but suspect it was more time of day.

From the manager: Thank you for the review, like we always say the facilities are only as clan as the person before you, we go around the facilities several times a day, but this time of year there are a lot of children using them

Electric grass pitch

Liked Secluded friendly picturesque site , convenient for getting to nearby resorts like Beer, Lyme Regis , Seaton and Sidmouth . It has the added interest of being a small airfield and we were lucky to see two small planes take off and return . Owners being happy to ram amity the history of the aeroplanes .
There is also a convenient small shop and good washing up facilities with laundry availability at a reasonable price .

Disliked The showers are a bit jaded and could do with an update

Liked Friendly welcome, spacious pitches, interesting airfield. Proximity to Donkey Sanctuary.

Disliked Lack of toilet cubicles and separate private showers.

From the manager: Thank you for the review, we are not sure what you mean by private showers as all our showers are private. We feel you may not have found all the toilet and shower blocks on site

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Absolutely lovely site. We stayed for a week and had wonderful views from the tent field. The enclosed dog walk area was fabulous. The airfield was brilliant for the kids, they loved seeing the planes take off and land! The owners were lovely and so accommodating. Showers were always clean and tidy too.

Disliked This isnt a dislike as such but the only thing we thought would be handy is another toilet block because we were often queueing to use the 2 in our field as they had the showers in them too

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for the review, we are pleased you had a good stay. We wished you had not queued as there are other toilets and showers you could have used across the site. If you come again we will show you

Local attractions

Stay at Branscombe at the beginning of August to frolic at the world-famous Sidmouth Folk Week, or mosey along to this part of Devon at any time of year to ramble and rockpool on Branscombe Mouth beach, be tempted by tasty treats in the thatched roof restaurant or take a boat out to land some mackerel and pollock for supper. Branscombe village has the Old Forge, the Old Bakery and the Norman St. Winifred Church to see, while the regency town of Sidmouth five miles to the west has a sauna, cinema, indoor pool, restaurants and gift shops as well as beaches for splashing and sunbathing. The fishing village of Beer is nearby: this sheltered beach is the spot for catching the sun’s rays, and if you don’t want to angle yourself from a boat to cast off, you can buy some fresh fish on the beach before getting on your mining helmet to explore the Beer Quarry Caves or climbing the hill (sans helmet) to the model railway exhibition and gardens at Pecorama. Cavers and trainspotters can also try the Kents Cavern Underground Caves and the South Devon Railway, both at Torquay. Devon day trips include browsing for lace in the market town of Honiton, taking a tram from Seaton along the River Axe for birdwatching at the estuary, fossil-hunting at Lyme Regis, history hunting at Exeter Cathedral and wandering the National Trust walks over Exmoor and Dartmoor. For the small fliers, Crealy Adventure Park, Paignton Zoo and Plymouth’s National Marine Aquarium should have them soaring.
