  • Site with its own private airstrip with restored aircraft
  • Within easy reach of Branscombe beach, Seaton and Beer
  • Safe and enclosed play area; games room; plenty of space for play
Branscombe Airfield and Camping is four miles from Sidmouth, Seaton and Beer, on the edge of Branscombe village and in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on Lyme Bay. The site has its own private airstrip, home to a range of vintage and classic aircraft, including a Stearman PT-17 and a Zlín 526. The resident pilots and restoration team are happy to show guests the current lineup when they are available; you may also see occasional flight activity (when pilot availability and weather/ground conditions permit). Branscombe has plenty of wide open space with views of Devon countryside and distant sea views. There are refurbished toilets and free showers, as well as a modern utilities block, a washing-up area and a launderette with a washing machine and tumble dryer. There's also a safe and enclosed play area with plenty of space to play football and other outdoor activities, and a small indoor games room is also available. Foodies can head out to two pubs within a mile and a half – one within a short 20-minute stroll.

What customers say

This well-kept, friendly campground boasts spacious sites, great amenities, and lovely views. Guests praise the helpful owners, peaceful vibe, and active airfield. Enjoy the pizza truck, dog run, and game room. While mostly positive, some note dated showers, peak queues, and a narrow access road.

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Plenty of space, hosts are very welcoming. Facilities were clean.

Disliked Limited facilities so had to que for a shower and unfortunately the site was not near full capacity.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for the review for your 1 night stay. Its a shame you had to que for a shower, which makes us think you only used the south side block and not the north side block, we would like to point out the night you stayed, Easter Saturday, we were almost at capacity as we don't put pitches on top of each other

Powered grass campsite

Liked It was very spacious, great views, the owners are so nice and really helpful. The showers are hot and clean, it was our first time camping and will be returning! The dog field is incredible, well kept and a big basket of balls to throw and throwers! Is now going to be our favourite camping spot, can’t recommend enough!

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Wonderful, hidden gem of a site! Superb facilities, immaculate toilets and showers.
Great welcome by Chris, who couldn’t do enough to make sure that we had the best pitch to meet our needs. Absolutely loved the ‘Bark Park’ for the dogs, complete with tennis balls and launchers, they had a great stay too!

Disliked That we had to come home so soon!

Primitive grass campsite

Liked Lovely welcome from the owners. Nicely laid out site and quiet in a beautiful position.

Disliked Shower room although immaculately clean were cold inside. I couldn’t operate one of the locks as it was so stiff.

From the manager: Hi Linda

Thanks for the great review, it does however highlight the importance to report any issue you have during your stay rather than waiting to write a review, we've now replaced the lock, once we had established which lock on which facility you were referring too.

See you again soon

Local attractions

Stay at Branscombe at the beginning of August to frolic at the world-famous Sidmouth Folk Week, or mosey along to this part of Devon at any time of year to ramble and rockpool on Branscombe Mouth beach, be tempted by tasty treats in the thatched roof restaurant or take a boat out to land some mackerel and pollock for supper. Branscombe village has the Old Forge, the Old Bakery and the Norman St. Winifred Church to see, while the regency town of Sidmouth five miles to the west has a sauna, cinema, indoor pool, restaurants and gift shops as well as beaches for splashing and sunbathing. The fishing village of Beer is nearby: this sheltered beach is the spot for catching the sun’s rays, and if you don’t want to angle yourself from a boat to cast off, you can buy some fresh fish on the beach before getting on your mining helmet to explore the Beer Quarry Caves or climbing the hill (sans helmet) to the model railway exhibition and gardens at Pecorama. Cavers and trainspotters can also try the Kents Cavern Underground Caves and the South Devon Railway, both at Torquay. Devon day trips include browsing for lace in the market town of Honiton, taking a tram from Seaton along the River Axe for birdwatching at the estuary, fossil-hunting at Lyme Regis, history hunting at Exeter Cathedral and wandering the National Trust walks over Exmoor and Dartmoor. For the small fliers, Crealy Adventure Park, Paignton Zoo and Plymouth’s National Marine Aquarium should have them soaring.
