Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Wonderful site, clean amenities that are well maintained and very dog friendly. Large space and owners are very accommodating. Would definitely recommend and visit again. Local attractions and beaches only 10-20 minutes away, bus routes available from the site, and child friendly space with a park and games room. Great site, will be back again!

Electric grass pitch

Liked Leaving

Disliked No wifi, no electric, queueing for toilet/showers, and screaming kids

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your review.
You decided to stay 6 nights at the end of the summer holidays knowing children would be here, clearly family campsites are not for you. “Screaming kids“ as you put it or children having fun as we put put it, are part of any campsite during the holidays, so we recommend that either you choose an adult only site where there is likely to be late night drinking and noise or wild camping rather than a family campsite.

We went out of our way to give you a private pitch away from others which you seemed grateful for on arrival and it would appear you were not happy with that whilst others would be very grateful.

Unfortunately, the area did have a power cut for 8 hrs during your stay which also powers the Wi-Fi and some of the toilets and showers and our water pumps, this was totally out of our control.
However, we managed to keep a basic service running from generators and stored water tanks and we refrigerated as many people’s food as we could.

We also offered all customers that lost power a refund of that cost, had you come into the office you would of received that.

During the peak season it is likely that you will queue for any service where ever you go, but we didn’t whiteness huge queues at any point during the entire summer, so we think it’s unreasonable to think that any outlet whatever it is will have an instant facility for you during peak season.

We also encourage customers to come and see us, rather than wait until they leave to go straight to the keyboard, had you came and seen us it would have given us a chance to try and resolve any issue you were having and we would of had the chance to explain the issues we were having.

Sadly campsites are not infallible to service outages and so we feel this is an unfair and an unnecessary inaccurate review, given that you managed to stay 5 nights, and raising no issue with us before leaving a day early without informing us of your departure.

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Loved the shop, had little things we needed. Check in process was so easy! Liked you could choose where to pitch up.
Loved that they had a bar and pizza van on Sunday night (bank holiday) with a singer! Made such a lovely evening!

Disliked Toilets and showers could be slightly better but loved that they had port a loos dotted around the airfield so you didn’t have to walk really far for a wee

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for your lovely review we are glad you enjoyed the food, drink and singer on the bank holiday weekend

Non-electric grass pitch

Liked Fabulous stay , weather was beautiful, the campsite was clean and tidy. Our pitches where very spacious(no set lines) ,staff on duty regularly checked loos and showers to keep them clean(disinfecting them),
Enjoyed watching the neighbours playing football and catch in the middle area as the sun set .we took our motorhome and a tent for our teenages , the ground was very hard (definitely need rock pegs) for tent but is understandable as was very dry when we went ,, I recommend this place for all the family ages ;-) was very peaceful, close to sidmouth,Lyme Regis, beer

Disliked The 4-5 portaloos on the left side of airfield where getting a abit pongy due to the hot weather ,, the smell drifted up the field ,, I think afew people must of smelt them too ,,
Luckily we chose to park further up the field where we couldn’t smell them ,, but other than that everything else was great

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Thank you for the review and lovely pictures
We are afraid you may have smelling a local farmer spreading slurry and not the portaloos as they smell was also down on the lower site as well.
We look forward to seeing you again, if you come on any other date than a bank holiday you will not be up the runway with portaloos but in the main site

The whole visit was excellent

Local attractions

Stay at Branscombe at the beginning of August to frolic at the world-famous Sidmouth Folk Week, or mosey along to this part of Devon at any time of year to ramble and rockpool on Branscombe Mouth beach, be tempted by tasty treats in the thatched roof restaurant or take a boat out to land some mackerel and pollock for supper. Branscombe village has the Old Forge, the Old Bakery and the Norman St. Winifred Church to see, while the regency town of Sidmouth five miles to the west has a sauna, cinema, indoor pool, restaurants and gift shops as well as beaches for splashing and sunbathing. The fishing village of Beer is nearby: this sheltered beach is the spot for catching the sun’s rays, and if you don’t want to angle yourself from a boat to cast off, you can buy some fresh fish on the beach before getting on your mining helmet to explore the Beer Quarry Caves or climbing the hill (sans helmet) to the model railway exhibition and gardens at Pecorama. Cavers and trainspotters can also try the Kents Cavern Underground Caves and the South Devon Railway, both at Torquay. Devon day trips include browsing for lace in the market town of Honiton, taking a tram from Seaton along the River Axe for birdwatching at the estuary, fossil-hunting at Lyme Regis, history hunting at Exeter Cathedral and wandering the National Trust walks over Exmoor and Dartmoor. For the small fliers, Crealy Adventure Park, Paignton Zoo and Plymouth’s National Marine Aquarium should have them soaring.
