General

  • Family-run site on the Jurassic Coast
  • Private beach and secluded bay access for guests
  • Golf, free entertainment and pool complex with Jacuzzi and sauna

Cor. You'll have to eat your collective hats if lads and lasses of all sizes don’t find a mega amount of things to do at Ladram Bay Holiday Centre overlooking the Jurassic Coast – it’s billed as the holiday park with ‘something for everyone’ and has been heaped with tourist and environmental awards over the years. Having its own private beach and secluded bay probably helps too...

An adventure playground with giant pirate ship (aaaarrr) are just a few of the picks at this friendly family park; kids’ clubs will keep small lads and lasses entertained during the day, and the arcade with several sorts of games should see them additionally amused.

As should the megasaurus Jurassic-themed adventure golf course, which has large and lurking dinosaurs placed around it, and the new pool complex with interactive splash zone, slides and fountains, sauna, a Jacuzzi, steam room and gym. An indoor soft play area is available for children up to 12 – and, most thoughtfully – is right next door to the Pebbles restaurant so you can have a bite to eat while keeping an eye on your free-range offspring.

The soft play area and a plethora of other pastimes are all in the Three Rocks complex, which also has the amusement arcade, Waves Bar and Nightspot and Sky and BT sports on the big screen. Elsewhere, supplies are fully covered with the well-stocked supermarket, beach Seaview Shack, and the Coast Takeaway for essential holiday fish and chips.

Looking for even more to do? Ladram Bay Holiday Centre also has a wide programme of instructor-led activities for a reasonable extra charge, where grownups and kids can try their hands at raft building, sea scooters and body zorbing. Or have a day on the centre’s private beach, with watersports from the shore, rockpooling towards the far end and kayak, rowing boat or motorboat hire from the beach kiosk.

Ladram Bay has two coin-operated launderettes, both with washing machines, dryers, irons and ironing boards.

The whole place is very friendly, staff and guests. Staff super helpful and pleasant, every single one. The facilities were very clean, easily accessible. The whole site has a great feel and is beautifully kept and has brilliant facilities, shops, take always, recycling, cafe, boats, kayaks, clubhouse, children's entertainment, gardens all lovely with very friendly and helpful staff. We had a great time at lad ram bay.

    Disliked:

Only two washing up stations in the top field wash block. Showers, beautiful for adults but you would struggle to wash/shower babies and small children, as there is no surface in the shower to put them or their clothes on. Family bathrooms too far away. Was offered 175 pitch which was too small but kindly offered a bigger one, no. 181, but most of them are fairly small. In a perfect world an outdoor pool would be lovely.

Amazing view. Friendly staff. Nice play area. Clean and modern toilet block. Well stocked shop with prices as expected.

    Disliked:

It's a steep walk from the main facilities back to the pitches when you have very small children who have worn themselves out in the playground. (However if it wasn't on a slope you wouldn't get the sea view.) You also have to walk through the amusement arcade to get to the toilets by the restaurant.

    Disliked:

Paid for WiFi but drops off so frequently not able to use. Park know the coverage is unacceptable but are happy to carry on taking money for it.
The pebbles restaurant is very expensive. The food is very basic pub grub i.e chicken nuggets and chips for kids, burgers, baguettes. It would have cost us over £45 for two adults and two children so we got up and left.
Despite this we would go again as the location is so lovely

Facilities were great. Staff were really friendly and helpful. On site shop had everything we needed. Bar prices were reasonable. Restaurant had a good selection of food (for vegetarians too). Toilet facilities were spotlessly clean. Access to own beach was an added bonus.

    Disliked:

On the last night, a group of campers with kids were rowdy until 12:45AM, despite numerous calls from fellow campers to be quiet. Site staff did not intervene. A rule needs to be set to appease the majority of campers. I felt midnight would be reasonable which is when I politely requested the campers to go to bed (with no effect). It left a sour taste to an otherwise good stay.

This is a large well equipped holiday park. Service was very quick and efficient, they even site your caravan for you. We were very impressed by the service and facilities at the park and especially enjoyed kayaking around the neighbouring bays. It is an excellent holiday park for families as there is so much to do. We also toured the local area and visited nearby Sidmouth which was an enjoyable day out.

    Disliked:

Lack of mobile signal in the park although ironically it is good on the beach

Local attractions

Once you’re ready to go off site – sometime around week two, probably – the South West Coast Path is steps away from Ladram Bay and has stellar walks to the seaside towns of Budleigh Salterton to the west and Sidmouth to the east.

Inland, the Budleigh Salterton to Otterton five-mile walk follows the banks of the River Otter; the Otter Valley Wildlife Walk is an easy stroll through the Lower Otter Valley nature reserve to look out for kingfishers and waders from the river’s viewing platforms and hides.

Twitchers can also head inland to the Exe Estuary RSPB reserve 13 miles away to see migratory birds or book a boat trip to spot avocets. The new Exe Estuary Trail is accessible from here too for those who prefer pedalling, with several other trails nearby including the old train track path between Budleigh Salterton and Exmouth, the Tarka Trail and Woodbury Common.

Kids tugging on your sleeve demanding more action-packed adventures? Family-friendly Devon has the Crealy Great Adventure Park, petting the animals at award-winning Pennywell Farm, go-karting at Raceworld and another theme park at Woodlands to keep them if not quiet then happy…the Ashbourne Adventure Centre and River Dart Adventure Park might finally tire them out too.

Spend at least a day in Exeter, 13 miles along the coast: historians can potter around Exeter Cathedral or visit the award-winning Royal Albert Memorial Museum and Art Gallery, while little monkeys should like swinging about in the branches at Go Ape!, 15 minutes’ drive from the city centre. Exeter Racecourse has fixtures all year round and regular family events.

Along the coast, stop off in turn at Exmouth, Dawlish, Teignmouth and Paignton for days on the beach, watersports, more days out for the kids like Paignton Zoo – or go inland to canter around the beauty of Dartmoor, cycle the Granite Way Trail or walk with a llama – yup, really – across the moors.

Finally, if fishing’s your main hook, you won’t have far to go: many Ladram Bay guests fish from the park’s own cove, hiring a boat from the kiosk and going out to land mackerel for the barbie.
