General

  • Family-run holiday park five minutes' drive from Penzance
  • St Ives and Land's End within a 25-minute drive
  • Dog-friendly site a few minutes' drive from the A30

Pootling around Penzance and trips to the beach go together very nicely indeed. If you're after a bit of both, check out Stream Valley Holiday Park, a family-run holiday park set in peaceful Cornwall countryside and close to the coast.

This site is superbly well connected to the local area: the A30 is a few minutes' drive away, as is Penzance railway station (there's also a bus stop within walking distance). Green-fingered folk may appreciate the fact that stepping out to visit the gorgeous grounds of Trengwainton Garden will set you back a mere 20 minutes.

Polite and well-trained pups are allowed here – they're sure to have a ball running up and down local dog-friendly beaches like the stretch of sand at Eastern Green (five minutes' drive/40 minutes' walk). Barbecues are also welcome here, but please help the friendly owners take care of their lawn by raising the hot bits well off the grass. A shop and bakery are within walking distance for any supplies you need to pick up.

From a practical point of view, the well-maintained toilets, laundry room and washing-up point are all handy things to have around.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

Group bookings of 3 or more units (e.g. tent, touring caravan, motorhome or accommodation hire) travelling together are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Group bookings of 3 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

Single-sex bookings of 3 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Bookings must not be for more than 28 consecutive nights.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

The site caters for families (immediate members) and couples only - bookings from all other forms of groups are not accepted.

Discount cards and gift vouchers cannot be applied to bookings made via Pitchup.com.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

A cable measuring at least 20 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.

Units longer than 8 metres are not allowed.

Minimum spacing of 6 metres between pitches.

All onsite food and drink establishments are closed due to restrictions imposed by the coronavirus outbreak.

The games room is closed due to restrictions imposed by the coronavirus outbreak.

Friendliness of staff, exceptional cleanliness in toilets and showers. Loved the small site feel of the place. Good size pitches. Great location for exploring Penzance and the south west of Cornwall.

    Disliked:

Pitch had quite alot of below ground stones in some places. Made it tricky to use tent pegs, compared to other camp sites on our south coast/cornwall trip, as we kept having to readjust the pegs to work around small stones. It's a very minor point really, overall the site was great. We worked around the problem. It just took a bit longer, not alot longer, than usual to put our tent up.

Absolutely everything small site but immaculate and the facilities were like a 5 star hotel. Will defiantly be back we loved every minute of it. Warden Tony and Mel were fantastic and so helpful. The stream running along the boundary of the site was beautiful the kids loved throwing stones in. The campsite was a 2min drive to the beach. They’ve just had a brand new static holiday caravan that we’ve already booked out for April 2021

Location , dog friendly pub down the road The Sportsman .

    Disliked:

Pitches were crammed. Wardens were aggressive during our stay , should not be advertised as dog friendly !! . Glad to leave !

From the manager...

Hi Judith, thank you for your review. We are a very dog friendly campsite, our only rules are that the dog is kept on your own pitch and is kept on a long lead or rope. You allowed your dog to roam free numerous times, which resulted in the dog fouling on other peoples pitches and even entering other peoples tents. You were asked numerous times adder to the rules and put your dog on a lead however after asking numerous times and your refusal to do so, we did in fact ask you to leave as we had numerous complaints about you and your dog. This is very unfortunate as we have lots of campers that bring dogs and abide by the rules of the campsite and have a lovely enjoyable stay. As dog owners ourselves we love dogs however we must think of our other campers stay and safety

What a lovely little site!! The number of pitches at Stream Valley is small, and that's a good thing. The owners / staff are super friendly and helpful, and they are only too keen to help out with any problems that arise.

The atmosphere at the site is really pleasant because, to their absoloute credit, the staff tolerate absolutely no nonsense from any rowdy campers or trouble-makers. Praise be!! :-)

Will we be back? Oh heck yes!

    Disliked:

What's not to like? Well not much to be honest. Everything works, everything is clean and well maintained, everyone is friendly, and the site is conveniently placed for all the local attractions without being too close to be affected by any of the hustle and bustle.

Everything, from the minute we got there Tony and Mel were so welcoming and made us feel at home nothing was to much trouble for them and went out of there way to help you on anything, the site was so nice and relaxed we didn't get to do all that we planned as we stayed on site a couple of days, there are local shops, chip shop, bakery and local pub just a little stroll down the road, the site is kept very well maintained with extremely clean facilties ( toilets, showers, washing up areas, waist water, toilet cassette disposal) with everything you'd expect on site, the atmosphere was very welcoming as we met really nice people and felt safe and secure on site, carnt wait to go back again and would definitely book this site as we felt it was central to most towns and villages that we wanted to visit.
Once again a very big thank you to Tony and Mel ( new friends for life )

We are unlikely to return because we have seen the sites we wanted to and have a lot more of the country to see.

Local attractions

If you're potty about plants then Cornwall's the place to be. The area around Penzance is home to 16th-century Trengwainton Garden (20 minutes' walk), semi-wild Trewidden Garden (10 minutes' drive) and the artsy exhibits on show at Tremenheere Sculpture Gardens (10 minutes). (Even if the names all look a bit similar, no two are alike.) Further afield, the ever-popular Eden Project (an hour) is also within reach.

In days gone by Cornwall was a busy industrial landscape where the menfolk would leave home at the crack of dawn, pasty in hand, and head out in search of copper and tin. If you're curious about delving into the underground world of 18th-century mining, check out Geevor Tin Mine (15 minutes) and take tours of its 200-year-old tunnels.

Back at surface level, you'll likely want to start thinking about heading to the coast (this is Cornwall, after all). St Ives (20 minutes) is the place for foodies and art fans, who flock to its Tate gallery and top-rated quayside restaurants. Mousehole (15 minutes), meanwhile, is a well-preserved fishing port characterised by its gorgeous granite cottages.
