Monkey Tree Holiday Park: Pool area (photo added by on 19/04/2022)

General

  • Award-winning family-friendly park 10 minutes' drive from Newquay
  • Covering 56 acres including a dedicated dog area
  • Pool, play zones, clubhouse and fish and chip takeaway

There’ll be plenty of time for monkey business in this family-friendly site… Surrounded by a whopping 56 acres of countryside and a fab place for taking tiddlers, the award-winning Monkey Tree Holiday Park is 10 minutes from Perranporth and its huge open beach, as well as the lively surf centre of Newquay.

As you might already (luckily) know, the north coast of Cornwall is tiptop for beaches – Newquay's famed for its world-class waves and heady nightlife, while Perranporth has kayaking and hovercrafting to get adventurously stuck into, and top-notch coastal walks on either side of the beach.

Back at base, catch a few pages of your book while the kids splash about in the outdoor heated pool complex… or while they join in with the packed entertainment schedule for juniors (there's a talented in-house entertainment team on hand with a daily kids' club and Funky Monkey putting in a regular appearance). On top of that, a maze of net walkways, slides and ball pools means that younger guests will have plenty to keep them entertained, whatever the weather.

Food's sorted with the on-site clubhouse and restaurant and a fish and chip takeaway (fish and chips + seaside = essential). Or fire up the barbecue instead: hit up the camp store for the essentials, or head to the grocery store 10 minutes away.

The pitch was fine but the one they sent us to first already had someone on which was stressful. Turing a caravan around.
    The pool was amazing
Great facilities. Loved the crazy golf lots of fun Staff in shop friendly

    Disliked:

The toilet and shower facilities area was so cold and always wet on the floor. After my shower I had to stand in a pool of water to dry my self which had come from the shower somehow.
Used the washing machine and dryer the washing machine was fine but total waist of time on the dryer did not dry them at all. Spoke to another lady and she said to go to the other block as they r better. But that was after I spent money for nothing.
The day we arrived we went to the shop before closing time but it was closed.
The WiFi was ok but only because we paid £20 for 2 devices for the week that was a lot
Toilets did get cleaned but not enough with all the rain and mud. The male cleaner would just walk in not shouting out first to check if it was ok

From the manager...

Thank you for leaving us a review.

The amount of activities available for children, crazy golf, sand pit, soft play, art hub, play park, basket/foot ball court, arcade, remote control cars/boat tracks. Some activities are payable but there was plenty to keep us entertained and that's not including the stunning pool area that was like something out of a holiday magazine! And the children's entertainment team were so lovely! My boy is very shy and they were so warm and welcoming with him, he almost got up and danced!
Toilet/shower block adequate and clean enough.
Only about 20 min drive to town centre

    Disliked:

The cost of the crazy golf was a little on the expensive side, £7.50 per adult and £5 per child then an extra £10 deposit for the hire of clubs etc.
The shop advertised they sell freshly backed pastries but in the 4 days we were there, they didn't have any on sale. When asked the young lad said they wasn't cooking any today (Sunday)
    Poor reception and wifi

From the manager...

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, we are pleased to hear you enjoyed the amount of activities we have here. A lot of work has gone into the park the last couple of years to be able to provide more onsite activities for guests staying with us. We are sorry to hear you felt the crazy golf way expensive, we have found ourselves to be slightly cheaper than those in the local area and the deposit for the clubs is refundable as soon as the clubs are returned.
We are currently undergoing work to our wifif, unfortunately the phone signal is out of our control.

Thanks again for your feedback, we are always looking at ways in which we can improve. We hope to see you again!

A lovely place to stay, with some room for improvement17/09/2023

Reviewer's country: United KingdomAnonymousMobile phone iconConfirmed

Monkey Tree was a lovely place to stay, with some room for improvement.
Every single member of staff we spoke to was happy, helpful and polite. They all went out of their way if you needed anything.
There are lots of toilet blocks and mini playgrounds dotted around the site.
Despite what some reviews say, we found the whole place to be clean and well maintained. The toilets were cleaned hourly so we rarely paid a visit without seeing a member of staff cleaning
(Thank you to Stan for keeping the toilets spotless during our stay).
We regularly saw the security guys walking and driving around the site which made our stay feel extra safe. Again, they all said hello and were chatty when we saw them. It really made for a lovely, friendly atmosphere.
The pitches are a nice size, although some are much more private and better situated then others. Pot luck for which one you get i suppose but if we were to visit again, we might request certain ones over others if they allow that.
The site is in a very handy place for anyone wanting to explore the area and is easy to find.
There is a shop on site that is well stocked and reasonably priced. I was expecting prices to be above average but they weren't so that was nice to see.

    Disliked:

A few things that we think could be improved on.
Despite being a family site, there were no family washing facilities. We visited with a 1 year old and we're expecting some shower rooms that are set up for a family to shower together. We camp a lot and more often then not, sites do have these. I had to wash my daughter in the sinks in the ladies bathroom because there was no way to safely shower with her on my own.
The kids facilities, like pool and soft play, don't open until 10am and close at 5pm. When kids are awake by 7, it would have been really nice to go straight to the pool or play centre for the morning. 10am felt like a long wait and by that time we are up, and ready to go out for the day.
The site has a small, indoor soft play area for kids to access for free. This was good and we spent some time there most day but the climbing frame in there is old and definitely not the safest. There are bits of the metal frame exposed and gaps in the cushioned flooring. There is also a rope bridge that looks very suspiciously held up by some losely tired string.
There are also electronic, arcade type games in the room that don't work.
The prices for food and drink on site were a tad pricey really too.
Lastly, there was a large party staying at the site at the same time as us. This meant that 1 of the bar areas was closed every night of our stay for a 'private function'. The area that was closed is the only one that looks directly at a big, outdoor play park. It would have been nice to be able to use this area on an evening whilst our daughter played on the park. I'm sure a lot of parents would have agreed. We found it very frustrating that noone informed us when we booked that this would be the case.

From the manager...

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, we are pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay with us and we will pass on your kind comments to the team here.
We do have some family bathrooms available in our other toilet/shower blocks we will make sure this is more clearly advertised going forward.
Our soft play opens at 9am this area has recently undergone an inspection and we complete on site checks of this area daily upon cleaning. Had you of any concerns we hope these were raised to reception so we could have had our maintenance team double check these.
Thank you for making us aware about the arcade games in this area, we will pass this onto our arcade manager.
The summer nights bar is closed as per advertised at the end of the school summer holidays. The party in there paid for private use of this area. We apologise for any confusion caused. the chip shop and Pizzeria were still accessible during this private hire and there were plenty of tables just outside this area to use.

Thanks again for your feedback and we hope to see you again.

    Disliked:

Only two things, for some reason you cannot take dogs into clubhouse ( even outside) after 6 o’clock, I understand during kids holidays etc
But a lot of people had dogs on site and bar areas were empty, lost out on lots of food and drink
The hand driers in the toilets were a waste of time, either put in ones that dry your hands of take out and put in paper towels

From the manager...

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review, we are pleased to hear you found our reception team helpful and the park clean and tidy.
We have taken your feedback into account for our our quieter months. Thank you for letting us know about the hand dryers we will get these looked at.

Local attractions

Cornwall’s coastline and beaches are pretty much legendary, but Newquay (10 minutes) is world-famed for its surf and nightlife too. It’s a party town from daybreak until well after dark and the surf's so good they hold international competitions here – check out Fistral Beach and Watergate Bay.

Perranporth (10 minutes) is the place to head for a more relaxed beach day, though it’s very popular so best to get your towel down early. The beach here is a fab spot for dog walking, rolling up the trousers for a paddle or lazing around and copping a look at the views.

The Eden Project (35 minutes) has the UK’s most realistic rainforest, full of rare plant species and exotic butterflies, as well as a pretty nifty Mediterranean biome. Daredevils can also have a go on England’s longest zipwires – or head over to Flambards in Helston (45 minutes) for flumes, rollercoasters and go karting.
