Mena Farm: Oak and Willow

General

  • Quiet and friendly family site on a farm four miles from Bodmin
  • Five miles from the Eden Project and 30 minutes' drive from the coast
  • Within easy reach of the Camel Trail cycle route and other bike paths

No bright lights, no noisy clubhouse and no rigid rules… just peace, quiet and a mightily friendly vibe in a stargazing and cycling haven close to Bodmin and the Eden Project – sound just splendid? Then pitch yourself up at Mena Farm.

Run by Ali and Neil, Mena is a family-friendly farm site in central Cornwall, five miles from Bodmin and the Eden Project and eight from St Austell. This is cracking cycling country, with several bike routes running from or near the site and the 18 scenic miles of the family-friendly Camel Trail reachable at Bodmin. Going beachwards, Fowey on the south coast and Newquay on the north are both within half an hour's drive.

For days on site, ramble your way over to the wilder corners of Mena for den building and wildlife spotting (species to spy include badgers, rabbits, deer and buzzards), or trundle along to meet the pigs and chickens; egg collecting assistance is most welcome. By night, the combo of clear skies and lack of blazing lights on the park means there's some stellar stargazing to be had. Barbecues and campfires are – of course – allowed at this laidback place, so you can add sausages (and cider?) to your astronomical exploits.

Ali and Neil have added a play area and a barn with games, books and a TV to further aid idling, and the mini market sells a good range of essentials to sort supplies without stirring from the grounds; you can also – how fab – get fish and chips delivered right to your pitch.

The peace and quiet (away from the rat race of life). I live next to a main road so the quiet is a welcome change . The new showers and toilets are great (my last visit they were just about to be rebuilt).

    Disliked:

Other campers who were making excessive noise early in the morning and the barking dog at 5am.

From the manager...

Hi there - thank you for your review. I'm very sorry to hear you were disturbed by other campers in the morning. We request that all campers are quiet between 10pm and 9am, so if we'd known there was a problem, we'd have happily come out and resolved it for you. It was nice to see you again and hope to see you again another time. With kind regards, Ali & Neil

Hi there - many thanks for your kind review and happy to hear you enjoyed your stay at Mena. We understand that unisex facilities to everyone's liking, but we find most of our families prefer them as it makes shower time much easier. For others reading this review, I always like to emphasis that all cubicles are fully enclosed, not just partitioned, for privacy. With kind regards, Ali & Neil

Hi Craig - many thanks for your kind review. We understand that unisex facilities aren't to everyone's taste, but the vast majority of our guests are considerate to other users, and we do find it is much easier for families who appreciate the convenience of unisex facilities. We're glad that this wouldn't deter you from visiting again, and we hope to see you another time. With kindest regards, Ali & Neil

Mena Farm lived up to its description. Set in a beautiful location with rolling hills and a large open expanse to roam pitch free.
The lovely attentive couple who run Mena Farm ensure the environment is well maintained and provide a level of customer care few could match. Even the pigs are friendly not to forget Ollie the spaniel.
Everyone has differing expectations but I’d be surprised if you didn’t enjoy your stay. As a result I departed a lot later than intended :)

Hi Mike - thank you for taking the time to leave us such a lovely review. Ollie still hasn't grasped the fact you've left and heads over to Dolly a couple of times each day for his treat and game of fetch - harassing the new occupants in the process! It was a real pleasure to have you stay. Please bear us in mind should you need some R&R again in the future. Take care and wishing you all the very best, Ali, Neil & Ollie dog
