Mena Farm: Lotus bell tents named Oak, Willow and Hazel

General

  • Quiet and friendly family site on a farm four miles from Bodmin
  • Five miles from the Eden Project and 30 minutes' drive from the coast
  • Within easy reach of the Camel Trail cycle route and other bike paths

No bright lights, no noisy clubhouse and no rigid rules… just peace, quiet and a mightily friendly vibe in a stargazing and cycling haven close to Bodmin and the Eden Project – sound just splendid? Then pitch yourself up at Mena Farm.

Run by Ali and Neil, Mena is a family-friendly farm site in central Cornwall, five miles from Bodmin and the Eden Project and eight from St Austell. This is cracking cycling country, with several bike routes running from or near the site and the 18 scenic miles of the family-friendly Camel Trail reachable at Bodmin. Going beachwards, Fowey on the south coast and Newquay on the north are both within half an hour's drive.

For days on site, ramble your way over to the wilder corners of Mena for den building and wildlife spotting (species to spy include badgers, rabbits, deer and buzzards), or trundle along to meet the pigs and chickens; egg collecting assistance is most welcome. By night, the combo of clear skies and lack of blazing lights on the park means there's some stellar stargazing to be had. Barbecues and campfires are – of course – allowed at this laidback place, so you can add sausages (and cider?) to your astronomical exploits.

Ali and Neil have added a play area and a barn with games, books and a TV to further aid idling, and the mini market sells a good range of essentials to sort supplies without stirring from the grounds; you can also – how fab – get fish and chips delivered right to your pitch.

The friendly welcome, the cleanliness & covid safe procedures. The dog field was gorgeous, plenty of 'off lead' exercise. Various food vans calling with excellent food & drinks on offer. Fire pits & logs on sale. Wild camping if wanted. Perfect location for north & south Cornish coasts.
Everything you would expect from a first class site, and
I would recommend it highly. A most enjoyable weeks holiday.

    Disliked:

Only the 'misle' (mist & drizzle) it lasted 3 days but we can't do anything about the weather!

Very nice site and spaced out pitches with plenty of room. Very good facilities and didn't have to que for showers or toilets which were outstandingly clean. Lovely walks into field with pond for dogs also. Site was very quiet at nights and no issues with noise at all. Site also put on various morning and evening catering vans such as pizza, coffie, waffles and cocktails which was great. Would stay again if we travel to Cornwall area. Local pub also had very good Sunday roast which is only 5min drive.

Good size, French style pitches, wild meadow areas, friendliness of staff, covid safe, clean toilets and showers, great washing up, small and intimate style camp site, coffee and cocktail van! This was my second time here, the first time I was in a glamping tent with my 2 young children and I liked it so much I returned with my husband and another family to try the camping pitches. I really like that you are allocated a pitch and it's clear where you are supposed to pitch. We had little grassy boundaries on ours but we could see other pitches that were open or had taller hedges (offering more privacy if needed). There is plenty of space for children to play too and campfires are allowed. It's a great base area for visiting the various beaches and riding the camel trail. We drove 10 minutes to a free little car park called Scarletts Well in Bodmin which is next to the camel trail and allowed us to do a 22 mile round trip to Padstow with our 7 and 8 year old. Perfect. Also climb Helman Tor which is 2 miles from the campsite and great fir if you are having a quiet camping day but want a bit of exercise. We will be back as it's the perfect campsite.
