General

  • Spacious and peaceful working farm site on the banks of the River Meon
  • A 15-minute walk to the South Downs Way
  • Toilets, communal area, washing-up area and firepit

Meonside Camping is a peaceful and easily accessible chalk hill valley site on the banks of the River Meon, ten minutes' walk from the village of East Meon.

The site is well set for walking and cycling, as it's adjacent to the East Hampshire Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty cycle route and a 15-minute walk to the main trail route of the South Downs Way, through the South Downs National Park.

Meonside is a working farm busy with life all year round. It has basic facilities including toilets, a firepit, drinking water, a washing up area and a communal seating area. The owners limit the numbers of guests to very few, to give everyone plenty of space and to keep the valley as natural as possible.

The site is on a mixed farm with cattle sheep and arable land.

Was staying here overnight as I was walking the South Downs Way from Winchester to Eastbourne. One of our group had to stop a few miles from the campsite and the rest of us decided to head on and come back with a car later. Car didn't show and when we mentioned the story to the campsite owner, he offered to take me back to collect our fallen comrade and didn't accept any payment for fuel! Very friendly relaxed site and although it only has basic amenities (toilet/water/washing) the fact you can have campfires outweighs this. Everything you need for a fire can be bought in a big bag and extra bags are available too. Plenty of room between pitches as the owner won't cram people in. This site comes highly recommended for a nice relaxing and warm stay. I would definately book here again.

    Thank you to Meonside.

Out in the countryside - nice views and very close to the south downs way. Plenty of blackberry bushes around the area and fire pits around the site. Owner will even grab wood for you for £5.

    Disliked:

Not much - it's a very basic site with portaloos and a water tap, but that's what makes this place so perfect (for us).

We stayed with our dog at Meonside for one night. The field had a great choice of spots and there are some ready made fire pits on the ground to use. The weather was great and the site was quiet. There is fresh water at a tap by the 3 port cabins for toilets. All clean! No showers or electric hook ups at this site please note.
There are several walks from this site and one ends at a local pub where a pint of beer was a welcomed stop in the walk!
The fire was a bonus and at £11 a night this is a great camp site with fantastic views across South Downs Way! The owner was friendly and you could buy wood from him if required!

It was great to have a fire pit that you could use. It was a shame as a walker to the site that I could not buy logs to burn which would be great for this to be offered.

From the manager...

We are glad you enjoyed your stay! It is a great shame you didn't get any wood as we drive around the site selling wood to everyone in big bags. We must have missed each other somehow. When you visit again, rest assured we sell wood, kindling and paper to light your own camp fire as this is a great part of the whole Camping experience!

Many Thanks

Lots of space not too many people and it is an excellent price. Camping is usually what you make of it but for the money you can go wrong. Portaloos we clean and smelled like grass for some reason!

People near us let there kids revv the engine of there car well after my kids were in bed. My kids got them back when they woke up at 5am as usual. Different parenting styles I guess. The site was great though!
