Green hills, a gently sloping valley, a chalk-bed river and some friendly local cows – if you fancy waking up to views like these on your next trip, make tracks for Meonside Camping, a Hampshire site 10 minutes' drive from Petersfield. This site is particularly well set up for walkers and cyclists: it's right next to the East Hampshire Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty cycle route and an easy 15-minute stroll from the popular South Downs Way. More scenic surrounds are on hand in and around the South Downs National Park: head 20 minutes down the road by car for picnics at Queen Elizabeth Country Park or spectacular views at Beacon Hill Nature Reserve. Meonside Camping is a working farm, so there's plenty of animal and plant life on display here throughout the year. Guests at this back-to-basics site have access to well-kept facilities including toilets, a firepit, drinking water, communal seating and a washing-up area. The folk in charge of this place like to keep things on the quiet side, so guest numbers are kept low to ensure plenty of space and peace and quiet for all. If you fancy cooking over coals, set up a barbecue and get sizzling (barbecue meat packs can be ordered ahead and delivered on the night – use the special requests box to find out more and order). Meanwhile, those who feel like leaving the meal prep to someone else can head off to East Meon, a 15-minute stroll away, for great pub grub at one of two local boozers.

喜欢 It's the summer holidays it was relatively busy but still plenty of space. There are fire pits dotted around so no need to burn a fresh bit of grass.
Portaloos were clean. There were sinks for washing.
The site is nearly flat. Might need ramps if you like your camper van dead level.

Also it has good connections. Only a few miles off the A3.

不喜欢 After a couple of days we would need a toilet disposal facility. Did not spot one.

喜欢 Great views, simple basic field. Was just what we were looking for. Has portaloos and a sink as well. 20 minute walk to the village that has a pub and a shop.

喜欢 A great, no frills site! Well maintained and friendly staff. Someone was on site at different times everyday checking toilets and restocking loo roll and soap. You don’t get a bad view wherever you park in the field.

喜欢 Great basic camp with hot water and couple of showers. Kept clean and is right on the Thornhill trail (6 mile hike up to the Derwent dam or a shorter one to Ladybower.

喜欢 Good location. The kids enjoyed playing in the nearby stream.

不喜欢 I always use the “toilet blocks” filter when choosing a campsite because I don’t like using portable toilets. I used the same filter when booking this campsite, so the information listed under the features is definitely incorrect. When we arrived, we found that the site only had portable toilets.

On top of that, on one of the busy mornings, we informed the staff member who came to inspect and clean the toilets that the soap had run out. Despite this, they told us they didn’t have any spare soap in their vehicle. The toilets were also not cleaned to an acceptable standard.

We pride ourselves on keeping these clean throughout the stay with checks 4-5 times a day. However there are always times when certain guests may 'FOUL' a toilet between checks.

喜欢 Lovely views. Very clean toilets (they're portaloos but spotless) and washing up sinks/water points, fire pits. 10 minute stroll into East Meon where there's a great circular walk and a nice pub.

不喜欢 Inconsiderate campers - there was loads of space in the field but someone rocked up and parked literally 2 feet from my car! It is by a road but it's a pretty quiet country road.

All the walking, cycling and foraging you're bound to get up to hereabouts being thirsty work, you may find yourself hankering for a restorative glass of vino. Head to Hambledon Vineyard (10 minutes) if you're curious about trying a glass of top-notch sparkling English wine. Beer-drinking guests, meanwhile, may well want to check out the cask-conditioned real ales made at Langham Brewery (30 minutes). For a really wild day out, head to Marwell Zoo (30 minutes), or try Birdworld (30 minutes) for some avian adventure.
