  • Peaceful family-run site near the beaches on Hayling Island
  • A 10-minute walk from Hayling Billy Trail; West beach 10 mins' drive
  • Off-grid dog-friendly site; farm shop and pub within walking distance
Heading to Hampshire’s Hayling Island with something simple and scenic in mind? You’ll certainly want to take a look at Croft Lane Green Camping, a quiet family-run site where the tree-lined pitches have been set up on the grazing paddocks of a working stables. Of course, you won’t actually be sharing the paddocks with the horses – you’ll see them on site but they reside away from the camping area (on arrival, you’ll note there are separate gates for the stables and the campsite). Pitches here are allocated ahead of arrival, and the area is reserved for guests (families and dogs included), allowing plenty of space for everyone to park by their pitch, spread out and set up a gazebo, awning and camping table if they like. Guests have access to simple facilities like a water supply, two composting loos, a cold shower and a cold-water sink. This is a generally off-grid site though, so you'll need to mostly bring your own gear (including portable chargers and a torch). Barbecues and firepits are welcome as long as they're raised off the ground; fireproof gear can be supplied if needed. The word ‘helpful’ crops up time and again in the reviews for this site, so do ask if you need a hand with anything. Croft Lane Green Camping has a small play area for children with two swings and a slide (plus one smaller slide for toddlers). It is in a convenient location for all sorts of local amenities: there's a farm shop selling local produce half a mile away, and a small supermarket and a garage are 10 minutes' walk down the road. A 20-minute walk across the field takes you to nearby Northney Farm tea rooms, and several local pubs are also within strolling distance. Planning to stock up for your stay? Croft Lane Green Camping is about five minutes' drive from the nearest big supermarket.

Liked We were extremely happy with our stay! The owners are absolutely lovely and super welcoming. There is plenty of space for everyone—they don't try to cram in as many people as possible, but genuinely care about guests' comfort. Right next to the campsite, there are horses you can watch, which is just wonderful! We will definitely be back!

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Convenient location, relatively small, simple campsite, easy to find. We've returned here a few times now and Charlie and Peter are great hosts - there if you need anything, but not if you don't need them. West facing for lovely sunsets. Lots of birds (some of which were VERY noisy at 4am but if you're not prepared for that then don't go camping!)

Eco loos aren't my favourite, but these ones don't smell and they're well maintained (except when a teenage boy has been in before you and peed all over the seat... but you can't control for that!)

Disliked There's slight road noise from the main road, but if you look at the map you'd be able to tell that anyway! Also on our first night there were idiots next to us up chatting until after 1am and had their fire so big it was concerning - we're in the middle of a heatwave and there's already been a wildfire on Hayling this summer. Reported it and Charlie and Peter dealt with it.

Also, I wish Echo was a more sociable dog - she's a very good, beautiful girl that keeps her distance from people and other dogs, but I'd have loved to have given her pets! Perhaps Charlie or Peter will give her some from me! :-)

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked We liked the field and its views of the horses. We liked the other wildlife there too, saw a fox, bats, swifts etc. and the cows mooing next door. Loved that we could have a campfire (fire pit). The compost toilets were surprisingly great. Loved the willow tree washing up station. Good location too, farm shop close, Billy walking trail close, Sam’s Sunflowers, Donkey sanctuary.

Disliked Not really anything that would stop me coming back! A little bit of road noise perhaps.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked We had a lovely two-night stay here this weekend and would definitely return. It’s a peaceful, quiet campsite with basic facilities, but everything was spotlessly clean and well looked after. The shower is cold, as clearly mentioned in the listing, but it was actually really refreshing in the hot weather. We also loved the eco-friendly toiletries provided. The owners were very friendly and welcoming, and nothing was too much trouble. A great little campsite if you’re looking for a simple, relaxing stay.

Disliked Nothing

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: So pleased that you enjoyed your stay at our campsite.
Thank you for noticing how we try to keep the campsite clean and provide Faith In Nature products in the shower and handwash and Sesi for the washing up liquid which we get refills from the bulk shop on the island.
look forward to your staying again.

The facilities were good, the camp sight was pretty and the area was lovely.

From the manager: Thank you for commenting about the facilities at the camp site.
We are pleased that the information was useful for you as if you don't know the area it is surprising how many different things there are to do on the island and nearby.

Sustainable, accommodating, beautiful.

Non-electric grass tent pitch

Liked Lovely host who came to greet us and tell us where everything was, including a list of pubs/ walks etc nearby and how to get to them.
Description absolutely accurate and with no booking the next day, allowed us to stay a bit extra - very grateful for that, so thank you.

Also loved the toilets being compost, the toilet paper being the most sustainable in the UK (who gives a crap) and provided shower bits and washing up bits as they're environmentally friendly to the stream - loved the sustainability - keep it up ☺️

Had a wonderful time in a very accommodating campsite - thank you again, will be back soon!

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: So pleased that you appreciated the environmental nature of the campsite. We use Faith in Nature products for the shower and Sesi for the washing up liquid which we buy from the Bulk shop on the island. I have used both Who gives a Crap and Naked Paper loo paper and alternate between them as love the charitable and sustainable ethos of WGAC but also love the very sustainable Naked Paper too.
I am pleased that the information sheet was helpful to help you take advantage of the island.
whenever no-one has booked a pitch for the following day we always allow campers to leave when they want.
Look forward to seeing you again.

Local attractions

Hayling Island’s main draw is surely the beaches – and you’ll be well placed for those here. West beach (10 minutes’ drive/15 minutes’ cycle) is the most popular of the lot, with a long sandy stretch and separate areas for swimming and windsurfing. To see more of the island’s coastline, walk or cycle along the Hayling Billy Trail (10 minutes’ walk away), running along a five-mile traffic-free path, or take a train ride with the Hayling Light Railway Trust (10 minutes’ drive). Elsewhere on the island, wander around Hayling Island Nature Reserve (15 minutes' walk), meet the residents of Hayling Island Donkey Sanctuary (three minutes’ drive) or go for rollercoasters and rides at Funland Amusement Park (five minutes). Back on the mainland, places like Chichester (20 minutes), Portsmouth (20 minutes) and Arundel Castle (35 minutes) are all good options for days out.
