  • Peaceful family-run site near the beaches on Hayling Island
  • A 10-minute walk from the Billy Trail; West beach 10 minutes' drive
  • Off-grid site; farm shop and pub within walking distance
Croft Lane Green Camping is a peaceful family-run campsite in a scenic Hampshire location, with pitches set up on the grazing paddocks of a stables (you'll see some horses on site, but they're kept away from the camping area; as this is a working stables, there are two sets of gates). You'll be staying in tree-lined fields with allocated pitches that have simple facilities like a water supply, two composting loos, a cold shower and a cold water sink, but this is a generally off-grid site so you'll need to mostly bring your own gear (including portable chargers and a torch). Dogs are welcome as long as they're kept under control. Croft Lane Green Camping is in a convenient location for all sorts of local amenities: there's a farm shop selling local produce from Hayling Island and the Isle of Wight half a mile away, while a small supermarket and a garage are available 10 minutes' walk down the road. A 20-minute walk across the field takes you to nearby Northney Farm tea rooms, while several local pubs are also within strolling distance. Planning to stock up for your stay? Croft Lane Green Camping is about five minutes' drive from the nearest big supermarket.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Friendly chilled atmosphere. Eco friendly toilets which were clean and well maintained with toilet paper provided. Had a fun stay. Nice to have a fire and fire pits and wood provided if needed. Would definitely come back again.

Disliked: Only dislike was you could sometimes hear the main road, but this didn't impact on sleep.

From the manager: Great to hear you had a good time. And pleased you want to come back again. I think the traffic was slightly busier than usual as it was a bank holiday weekend but also pleased to hear it didn’t disturb your sleep. We have increased the number of fire pits we rent out so more people can have one.

Lovely eco-friendly facilities, very welcoming hosts, nice, clean and peaceful site…

From the manager: Thank you for the review. I think as we have a small campsite it does stay pretty quiet. We make a point of checking on the compost loos to make sure they are well stocked with loo paper and sawdust and sweeping them so they are pleasant to use

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: The field is quite big, enough space for everyone, the bio loo together with bio shower is a great idea, (water was cold, but that wasn't a problem). Not that far from the beach, peace and quiet. First time from very long time I had a good sleep 😃 Definitely we'll return.

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: It's a beautiful scenic location! Wild flowers, hawthorn and blackberries in abundance, swifts and sparrows soaring. Wide open space to look at the stars and sunset. Very clean and private compost loos. The outdoor shower was wonderful to use in warm weather. The firepit we rented was perfect. Staff incredibly friendly and caring. Not to far from lovely farm shop and beach (by bus or cycle). Close to bus stop. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

Primitive grass tent campsite

Liked: Great campsite with lovely owners. We really enjoyed how peaceful this place was. Breakfasts were spent sat watching the horses across the field and there are nearby pubs within walking distance for an evening meal. The eco friendly approach of compost toilets and a cold shower over a stream should definitely be copied by other sites.

From the manager: Thank you for your feedback. How lovely that you had the time to enjoy watching the horses. Peter was pleased you like the shower and the compost loos which he researched and then built.
