General

  • Peaceful site surrounded by lakes, on the edge of the New Forest
  • Activities including high ropes, climbing, abseiling and zipwiring
  • Play area, tennis, exercise trails and café

Set up camp for a night or several at Avon Tyrrell Outdoor Activity Centre in the New Forest, for guaranteed busy days among a wide range of foresty fun.

For among the outdoor adventures and field study activities here you can try high and low ropes, climbing and abseiling, archery, zipwire and heaps more under the eyes of its experienced instructors – or take yourself off under your own guidance for orienteering, treasure hunting, mountain biking and fishing in its lush surrounding lakes....

Happily, a café serving the likes of jacket potatoes, paninis etc is here too so that adventurers don't have far to forage when it comes to light bites, and if you need a day off from all the action the site also has a play area and free wifi. (A tennis court and Trim Trail points are around too if you really can't help yourself.)

The Avon Tyrrell amenities block is well equipped with toilets, hot showers, a baby-changing room, washing-up facilities and a launderette. A small shop is to hand for basic supplies, but both Bransgore and Burley are only two miles away if you need anything else – maybe see how fast you can run there and back...?

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Facilities/activities including climbing, kayaking, high ropes and archery are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

Nice campsite with clean facilities, hot showers, friendly staff and onsite activities.

    Disliked:

Generally a peaceful site, but there are occasional low flying commercial aircrafts which are rather noisy - this is no fault of the campsite ofcourse.

The cafe was very understaffed and two people in our group waited an hour for scrambled egg on toast which was very poor when it did arrive.

This is a lovely campsite with beautiful surroundings. Check in was easy and the reception staff are welcoming and friendly. Lots of space for the kids in our group to run a little wild in safety. Good location as there are plenty of places to explore in the area. It’s my second time here (first in the glade and this time in the meadow) and would happily visit again.

The site was excellent, very child orientated as you would expect with a activity center like this. Location was great for Burley and the new forrest, however there was so much to do on site that we hardly left.
They were quite easy with camp fires and setting up tents together which is always a bonus.

Very nice and will be retuning

    Disliked:

Mixed toilet and shower blocks. There were lots of teenagers there and sharing shower and toilet facilities made alot of the adults feel uncomfortable.

They were very clean and spacious, but just not ideal with teenage girls walking about whilst you need a poo basically.

Directions

From London, the north or east: from the southbound M3, join the M27 and follow signs for the West and Bournemouth.
The M27 eventually becomes the A31, after approximately 15 miles exit left for Burley (signposted Burley and Services).

Follow the signs into Burley for about 2.5 miles. In the centre of the village you will find a triangular junction with a war memorial in the centre - turn right, signposted Bransgore and Avon Tyrrell).

After 1.8 miles you will rise up a hill and come to a crossroads at Thorney Hill, where you will need to turn right, signposted for Avon Tyrrell.

Go over the cattle grid and continue for 400m until you reach a fork in the road and a white cottage on the right - there will be a large sign for Avon Tyrrell straight in front of you, take the right fork.

From the west: head for Ringwood via the A31 or the A338, continue east past Ringwood for approximately 1 mile and as you get to the top of a hill turn left, signposted Burley and services.

Around the New Forest, the many places to see include the New Forest Wildlife Park in Southampton, an ancient natural woodland and wildlife haven (look out for otters and owls); the award-winning National Motor Museum at Beaulieu and Liberty's Owl, Raptor and Reptile Centre at Ringwood.

Pipsqeaks have the home of Peppa Pig World at Paultons Family Theme Park 30 minutes away for actively exciting day out, as well as the hands-on activities and indoor and outdoor play areas of Longdown Dairy Farm in Southampton and the Dinosaur Museum in Dorchester. Naturally, they might like trekking with a New Forest pony too.
