  • Peaceful site surrounded by lakes, on the edge of the New Forest
  • Bookable activities including high ropes, climbing and abseiling
  • Play area, table tennis, café and shop; toilet blocks with hot showers
Set up camp for a night or several at Avon Tyrrell Outdoor Activity Centre and Campsite set in 65 acres in the New Forest, for guaranteed busy days among a wide range of forest adventures. Among the outdoor adventures and field study activities here (which must be booked in advance and are subject to availability), you can try high and low ropes, climbing and abseiling, archery, zipwire and heaps more under the eyes of its experienced instructors – or take yourself off under your own guidance for orienteering, treasure hunting, mountain biking and fishing in its lush surrounding lakes.... Happily, a café serving the likes of jacket potatoes, paninis etc is here too so that adventurers don't have far to forage when it comes to light bites, and if you need a day off from all the action the site also has a play area and free wifi. (Table tennis and kid-sized bouldering walls are around too if you really can't help yourself...) The several amenities blocks are well equipped with a toilet block with hot showers, a baby-changing room and washing-up facilities. A small shop is to hand for basic supplies, but both Bransgore and Burley are only two miles away if you need anything else – maybe see how fast you can run there and back...?

Non-electric forest floor tent pitch (forest, pet friendly)

Liked: We had a lovely time at our stay. We stayed in the forest campsite which was quieter than the lake camping area. The toilet/shower facilities were good and good sized sinks for washing up. There was a small cafe which was basic but good value for money. My kids enjoyed having freshly cooked pizza. We also booked some water sports and the instructors were brilliant and my kids had a great time. We will definitely go back.

Electric grass pitch (lake view, no pets)

Liked: lovely area, fun paths and activities for kids to explore and take part in, staff welcoming and relaxed.

Disliked: some of the other campers were particularly loud late at night (11pm-midnight) - older kids running around shouting. One one hand it's great that everyone can have fun, on the other they woke up our younger children who had just fallen asleep (already quite late).

Liked: Ambience and location. Amenities like Toilets etc are nearby. We have been here for 2 times already and not bored of this place. I did not find any wifi option here as it’s mentioned in review section to rate not sure what’s the expectation.

Electric grass pitch (lake view, no pets)

Liked: Lovely location, lots to do (no so much for our younger kids but we were aware of that when we booked). Toilet/ shower blocks really clean and good condition

Disliked: Right under Bournemouth airport fly route- didn’t see this on the website at all and would have been good to know considering our 2 year old is a light sleeper. Low airplanes until around midnight.

Electric hardstanding and grass motorhome pitch (pet friendly, woodland)

Liked: Loved the location, good size pitches. Facilities were clean and well looked after, check in was smooth. Great site with walks all around and access to the new forest.

Disliked: The quiet time rules were not followed which are between 10pm and 7am, there was loud shouting from adults and children well past this time.

Local attractions

Several bike tracks start directly from the site, so pack a picnic and head off into the New Forest to find your own adventure – perhaps you might fancy a pedal to the Dorset and Hampshire beaches of Christchurch, Mideford, Southbourne or Highcliffe...? The sands of Bournemouth are about 10 miles away. Around the New Forest, the many places to see include the New Forest Wildlife Park in Southampton, an ancient natural woodland and wildlife haven (look out for otters and owls); the award-winning National Motor Museum at Beaulieu, and Liberty's Owl, Raptor and Reptile Centre at Ringwood. Pipsqeaks have the home of Peppa Pig World at Paultons Family Theme Park 30 minutes away for actively exciting day out, as well as the hands-on activities and indoor and outdoor play areas of Longdown Dairy Farm in Southampton and the Dinosaur Museum in Dorchester. Naturally, they might like trekking with a New Forest pony too.
