General

  • Peaceful site surrounded by lakes, on the edge of the New Forest
  • Bookable activities including high ropes, climbing and abseiling
  • Play area, table tennis, café and shop; toilet blocks with hot showers

Set up camp for a night or several at Avon Tyrrell Outdoor Activity Centre and Campsite set in 65 acres in the New Forest, for guaranteed busy days among a wide range of forest adventures.

Among the outdoor adventures and field study activities here (which must be booked in advance and are subject to availability), you can try high and low ropes, climbing and abseiling, archery, zipwire and heaps more under the eyes of its experienced instructors – or take yourself off under your own guidance for orienteering, treasure hunting, mountain biking and fishing in its lush surrounding lakes....

Happily, a café serving the likes of jacket potatoes, paninis etc is here too so that adventurers don't have far to forage when it comes to light bites, and if you need a day off from all the action the site also has a play area and free wifi. (Table tennis and kid-sized bouldering walls are around too if you really can't help yourself...)

The several amenities blocks are well equipped with a toilet block with hot showers, a baby-changing room and washing-up facilities. A small shop is to hand for basic supplies, but both Bransgore and Burley are only two miles away if you need anything else – maybe see how fast you can run there and back...?

Activities absolutely brilliant and well run. Gorgeous site. Very friendly young start doing the activities.

    Disliked:

Lack of help when towing a caravan and where to go and pitch. First time towing on my own as my partner met me a few days later I found it very hard to find my pitch and very narrow thin lane throw the woods. Mixed shower blocks, which the sinks seem to be blocked most of the time. I was there for nine days and not one person came down to make sure the pitch was okay. Or set up in the right area.

The environment is superb! You have forest/wood, and lakes. The facilities are good (don't expect heating on a freezing day though for the showers) with plenty of hot water. If you are looking for peace and quiet, this is it! The following day I met some very helpful members of staff both in the woods (I was looking for the bike hire) and reception. During my walks around the site, I saw some deers running around. In the mornings I was treated to beautiful sunrises! Would recommend it for both solo traveling and families (loads to do for the kids).

    Disliked:

The check-in was confusing. After I located reception, I was met by a member of staff who gave me my allocated pitch. She was a little impatient with me as I did not understand the layout of the camp. I know it was nearly five o'clock and maybe she had a long day but being understanding and courteous costs nothing. I would definitely recommend some directional signage for the different camping areas.
Lastly, it said that there was a cafe with wifi however it was closed for the 3 days I stayed.

There looked to be lots of activities available for adults & children to do during the day.
    Lots of biking tracks nearby.
Very friendly welcome when we arrived late on the Friday.

    Disliked:

Toilets & showers - mixed sex & as a woman that meant they were not as clean as women’s facilities normally are! Also at least 2 of the showers couldn’t be used because the doors were broken & if you did get to one that was lockable there’s no space to get dry- useless if you have a toddler. Also very disappointed with the disabled showering/toileting facilities as we went with our disabled daughter & they were dirty, clearly used by anyone that didn’t want to use the mixed sex toilets (i.e. everyone campers & day visitors) & the main shower head barely worked as it was so blocked with limescale.
Tents etc lovely & spaced out because of the season but we wouldn’t go back in high season as the marked out pitches are close together & not just round the edge so I imagine it would feel quite hemmed in.
