General

  • Peaceful site on the edge of the New Forest
  • Great for active outdoor enthusiasts
  • Within easy reach of numerous places of interest

Set up camp for a night or several at Avon Tyrrell Outdoor Activity Centre in the New Forest, for guaranteed busy days among a wide range of foresty fun.

For among the outdoor adventures and field study activities here you can try high and low ropes, climbing and abseiling, archery, zipwire and heaps more under the eyes of its experienced instructors – or take yourself off under your own guidance for orienteering, treasure hunting, mountain biking and fishing in its lush surrounding lakes....

Happily, a café serving the likes of jacket potatoes, paninis etc is here too so that adventurers don't have far to forage when it comes to light bites, and if you need a day off from all the action the site also has a pool, a play area and free wifi. (A tennis court and Trim Trail points are around too if you really can't help yourself.)

The Avon Tyrrell amenities block is well equipped with loos, hot showers, a baby-changing room, washing-up facilities and a launderette. A small shop is to hand for basic supplies, but both Bransgore and Burley are only two miles away if you need anything else – why not see how fast you can run there and back...?

Please note

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

Facilities/activities including swimming pool, climbing, kayaking, high ropes and archery are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

We chose this site because you can have camp fires ... 30/10/2017

We chose this site because you can have camp fires and barbecues. We loved it! stunning location. Friendly and helpful staff at reception. LOVED that we could have an open fire. Lovely place and will definitely revisit.

    Disliked:

Unisex facilities. Some suggestions... Please put a small shelf up in each shower cubicle for toiletry bag and shoes. As it was unisex facilities we felt uncomfortable changing in the open so ended up using the shower cubicle to change which is extremely difficult when the floor and walls are wet. Even a bench would be helpful. The sites are on an open field with no pathways at all to the main road or the facilities. We forgot our wellie boots and ended up with wet shoes the entire time as the grass was so wet. Small pathways to the main road would be a huge advantage.

Camping under the forest and relatively quiet (last weekend in Oct). In the areas (between Meadow & Scotts Pine) that we were camping there where only a few camper vans (4) and a tents (6 including us) and we had had plenty of choice of where to pitch. We were instructed to pitch anywhere we liked in Scotts Pine due to it be so quiet, we are glad we moved as far as we could to border of Scotts Pine to Meadow due to the drunks (more on this in a bit). Meadow was a little muddy, however the forest floor was nice and dry. The play park was safe and the kids enjoyed it. There is direct access to the New Forest which we used to go for several walks. The toilet block was fairly muddy (was to be expected at this time of year), they were clean, mould free, and did not smell.

    Disliked:

Our only compliant was a lack of enforcement of the curfew. Camping with young children they are up late due to fires, which is all part of the fun, however when individuals (the campers in Scotts Pine) play loud rave music and shouting into the early hours of the morning, it ruins the experience and destroys the plans for the next day. It also did not help that the camper van that was 30ft from us (hooked-up) left their outside light on all night. It was like having torch shone on you all night.

Great activities for kids of all ages, book early though to avoid disappointment.
Fire pits and BBQ areas are great, wood delivery good value.
Showers and toilet cleaned daily. Bransgrove is a 7 minute drive away, the nearest co-op supermarket and a great chippy and pub there.
    Very friendly and helpful staff.
Clean camping , lots to do!

    Disliked:

Ready tents didn't seem to be cleaned out and had mud stains , We never complained as we are seasoned campers, but a mop around wouldn't have hurt!

Directions

From London, the north or east: from the southbound M3, join the M27 and follow signs for the West and Bournemouth.
The M27 eventually becomes the A31, after approximately 15 miles exit left for Burley (signposted Burley and Services).

Follow the signs into Burley for about 2.5 miles. In the centre of the village you will find a triangular junction with a war memorial in the centre - turn right, signposted Bransgore and Avon Tyrrell).

After 1.8 miles you will rise up a hill and come to a crossroads at Thorney Hill, where you will need to turn right, signposted for Avon Tyrrell.

Go over the cattle grid and continue for 400m until you reach a fork in the road and a white cottage on the right - there will be a large sign for Avon Tyrrell straight in front of you, take the right fork.

From the west: head for Ringwood via the A31 or the A338, continue east past Ringwood for approximately 1 mile and as you get to the top of a hill turn left, signposted Burley and services.

Continue to Burley and Avon Tyrrell, following the directions above.

Local attractions

Several bike tracks start directly from the site, so pack a picnic and head off into the New Forest to find your own adventure – perhaps you might fancy a pedal to the Dorset and Hampshire beaches of Christchurch, Mideford, Southbourne and Highcliffe...? The sands of Bournemouth are about ten miles away.

Around the New Forest, the many places to see include the New Forest Wildlife Park in Southampton, an ancient natural woodland and wildlife haven (look out for otters and owls); the award-winning National Motor Museum at Beaulieu and Liberty's Owl, Raptor and Reptile Centre at Ringwood.

Pipsqeaks have the home of Peppa Pig World at Paultons Family Theme Park 30 minutes away for actively exciting day out, as well as the hands-on activities and indoor and outdoor play areas of Longdown Dairy Farm in Southampton and the Dinosaur Museum in Dorchester. Naturally, they might like trekking with a New Forest pony too.
