  • Peaceful site surrounded by lakes, on the edge of the New Forest
  • Bookable activities including high ropes, climbing and abseiling
  • Play area, table tennis and shop; Bransgore five minutes' drive
Set up camp for a night or several at Avon Tyrrell Outdoor Activity Centre and Campsite, set in 65 acres in the New Forest, for busy days with a wide range of forest adventures. Among the outdoor adventures and field study activities here (which must be booked in advance and are subject to availability), you can try high and low ropes, climbing and abseiling, archery, zipwire and heaps more under the eyes of its experienced instructors – or take yourself off under your own guidance for orienteering, treasure hunting, mountain biking and fishing in its lush surrounding lakes… If you need a day off from all the action, the site also has a play area and wifi. (Table tennis and kid-sized bouldering walls are around too, if you really can't help yourself…) The several amenities blocks are well equipped with a toilet block with hot showers, a baby-changing room and washing-up facilities. A small shop is to hand for basic supplies, but both Bransgore and Burley are only two miles away if you need anything else – maybe see how fast you can run there and back…? There's also an on-site café (open during high season only, with varying opening hours each month) serving the likes of jacket potatoes, paninis and other bits.

What customers say

This site boasts a beautiful natural setting with extensive grounds and numerous activities. Visitors praise the friendly and helpful staff, as well as the clean facilities and spacious pitches. However, some guests mention the site is under a flight path with resulting noise, and the unisex shower/toilet facilities are not to everyone's taste. Booking activities in advance is recommended due to high demand.

Non-electric grass pitch (lake view, no pets)

Liked Loads of activities, great little shop well proced. We had a nice pitch which was very spacious.

Disliked Toilet and shower block often not very clean and some of the drains were a bit smelly. Although it didn't bother us the toilet and shower block are mixed sex this is not made clear on booking, some people may find this and unconfortable surprise. Only one bin location for whole site and they hadnt been emptied recently so were overflowing.

Non-electric forest floor tent pitch (forest, pet friendly)

Liked The activities were great and the guides leading the activities were friendly, funny and easy to get on. This made the activities really enjoyable.

We did zip wiring, paddle boarding and archery. Paddle boarding was by far the most fun, with lots of games incorporated into it.

The campsite itself was ok.

Disliked We bought a couple of items in the shop - a Velcro catch game and a frisbee. They were very cheap and when we played with them, the Velcro catcher broke straight away and the frisbee didn’t fly properly. We were disappointed that we’d spent money on items that were not fit for purpose.

Electric grass pitch (lake view, no pets)

Liked Staff were fantastic as soon as we arrived, kids enjoyed the activities and we made some friends who we hope to come back with again next year. Also had an issue with car breaking down and reception got maintenance down and with 10 minutes of me speaking to them it was back up and running.

Electric grass and earth tent pitch (no pets, woodland)

Liked Great terrain with lots of activities in surrounding area.

Disliked It was so filthy and lots of people were noisy.
So much small litter everywhere even though we saw people picking litter it was still everywhere. The shower and toilets are never really clean. I think the cleaning staff has a limited time per unit because 3 days after I first saw poop on a toilet seat and bowl it was still on the bowl. Shower has no temperature regulation and it was really hot for small children.
There are lots of activities on the terrain bet you have to book them way in advance (before your holiday) otherwise it will be fully booked.
Lots of special needs children that keep repeating the same word very loudly all day long like a broken record.

Local attractions

Several bike tracks start directly from the site, so pack a picnic and head off into the New Forest to find your own adventure – perhaps you might fancy a pedal to the Dorset and Hampshire beaches of Christchurch, Mideford, Southbourne or Highcliffe...? The sands of Bournemouth are about 10 miles away. Around the New Forest, the many places to see include the New Forest Wildlife Park in Southampton, an ancient natural woodland and wildlife haven (look out for otters and owls); the award-winning National Motor Museum at Beaulieu, and Liberty's Owl, Raptor and Reptile Centre at Ringwood. Pipsqueaks have the home of Peppa Pig World at Paultons Family Theme Park 30 minutes away for an actively exciting day out, as well as the hands-on activities and indoor and outdoor play areas of Longdown Dairy Farm in Southampton and the Dinosaur Museum in Dorchester. Naturally, they might like trekking with a New Forest pony too.
