Avon Tyrrell Outdoor Activity Centre: Boathouse

General

  • Peaceful site surrounded by lakes, on the edge of the New Forest
  • Activities including high ropes, climbing and abseiling
  • Play area, tennis, bouldering walls and café

Set up camp for a night or several at Avon Tyrrell Outdoor Activity Centre in the New Forest, for guaranteed busy days among a wide range of forest adventures.

For among the outdoor adventures and field study activities here, you can try high and low ropes, climbing and abseiling, archery, zipwire and heaps more under the eyes of its experienced instructors – or take yourself off under your own guidance for orienteering, treasure hunting, mountain biking and fishing in its lush surrounding lakes....

Happily, a café serving the likes of jacket potatoes, paninis etc is here too so that adventurers don't have far to forage when it comes to light bites, and if you need a day off from all the action the site also has a play area and free wifi. (A tennis court and bouldering walls are around too if you really can't help yourself...)

The Avon Tyrrell amenities block is well equipped with toilets, hot showers, a baby-changing room, washing-up facilities and a launderette. A small shop is to hand for basic supplies, but both Bransgore and Burley are only two miles away if you need anything else – maybe see how fast you can run there and back...?

Please note

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

Facilities/activities including Archery, Paddleboarding and High Ropes are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

Minimum spacing of 5 metres between pitches.

The laundry facilities are currently closed due to restrictions imposed by the coronavirus outbreak.

Protective masks must be worn at all times in common areas.

Swimming in the lake is not allowed.

The toilet facilities are closed until Monday 17 May 2021. Guests will need to use their own facilities.

The shower facilities are closed until Monday 17 May 2021. Guests will need to use their own facilities.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Owing to government regulations, groups of 6 or more people are not permitted.

A cable measuring at least 3 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

Coronavirus update: because of government guidance, some activities may not be available. The laundry facilities and fridge freezer are also unavailable. Café Explore will be open on specific days only at this time; please contact the site if you require more information.

Perfect campsite. Just wish we were aware of it when our children were younger. So many activities to do but on the other hand the calmness of the New Forest on the doorstep makes it very peaceful. Toilets were clean. Showers were closed due to restrictions but as we were only away one night it wasn’t an issue. Will return.

Field is not very flat, for a caravan or motorhome this is not as much of an issue, but I can imagine that tents may struggle finding a flat area to pitch.

Around the New Forest, the many places to see include the New Forest Wildlife Park in Southampton, an ancient natural woodland and wildlife haven (look out for otters and owls); the award-winning National Motor Museum at Beaulieu, and Liberty's Owl, Raptor and Reptile Centre at Ringwood.

Pipsqeaks have the home of Peppa Pig World at Paultons Family Theme Park 30 minutes away for actively exciting day out, as well as the hands-on activities and indoor and outdoor play areas of Longdown Dairy Farm in Southampton and the Dinosaur Museum in Dorchester. Naturally, they might like trekking with a New Forest pony too.
