General

  • Peaceful site surrounded by lakes, on the edge of the New Forest
  • Activities including high ropes, climbing, abseiling and zipwiring
  • Play area, tennis, exercise trails and café

Set up camp for a night or several at Avon Tyrrell Outdoor Activity Centre in the New Forest, for guaranteed busy days among a wide range of foresty fun.

For among the outdoor adventures and field study activities here you can try high and low ropes, climbing and abseiling, archery, zipwire and heaps more under the eyes of its experienced instructors – or take yourself off under your own guidance for orienteering, treasure hunting, mountain biking and fishing in its lush surrounding lakes....

Happily, a café serving the likes of jacket potatoes, paninis etc is here too so that adventurers don't have far to forage when it comes to light bites, and if you need a day off from all the action the site also has a play area and free wifi. (A tennis court and Trim Trail points are around too if you really can't help yourself.)

The Avon Tyrrell amenities block is well equipped with toilets, hot showers, a baby-changing room, washing-up facilities and a launderette. A small shop is to hand for basic supplies, but both Bransgore and Burley are only two miles away if you need anything else – maybe see how fast you can run there and back...?

Please note

Facilities/activities including climbing, kayaking, high ropes and archery are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Good location. Great bike trails & activities for kids. Good cafe. Friendly staff.

    Disliked:

Not enough showers and toilets for the amount of people and the showers and toilets were not kept clean and not maintained well ie toilet blockages and broken door locks. Lake activites should have their own wash down facilities and should not use the toilet and shower area to clean off mud etc as this didnt help!

The range of activities for older children

    Disliked:

How they didn’t check the ages on groups for activities as my 15 year old was excited to do shelter building and would expect similar age ranges in his group although all the group but him were aged 5-6 years old he refused to take part I lost 12 pound and on his last activitie the one which he was looking forward to all summer and because the group was too big and they didn’t allow enough time for activity on high ropes they only got to do two obstacles on high ropes he was upset and disappointed as most of the 1hr and half he was sat down and he said how disappointed he was I would of expected more or at least 6 pound back for this activity also we were told that they zip wire can only operate if there is a large group and as a single person with teenager child it was frustrating women’s toilets were clean but men’s toilets were discusting and vile with feaces on the seats which lead to my son not going for 4 days the cafe was nice and reasonably priced we recommend the bike hire and the fishing was perfect huge fish in this lake by the way and our secluded area for camping was perfect in woodland area not a fan of all the wasps but that’s is nature for you all in all this camp was still a winner and for a teenage grumpy lad this was great to let off some steam and relax by the beautiful landscapes of the new forest we will be back for sure

Directions

From London, the north or east: from the southbound M3, join the M27 and follow signs for the West and Bournemouth.
The M27 eventually becomes the A31, after approximately 15 miles exit left for Burley (signposted Burley and Services).

Follow the signs into Burley for about 2.5 miles. In the centre of the village you will find a triangular junction with a war memorial in the centre - turn right, signposted Bransgore and Avon Tyrrell).

After 1.8 miles you will rise up a hill and come to a crossroads at Thorney Hill, where you will need to turn right, signposted for Avon Tyrrell.

Go over the cattle grid and continue for 400m until you reach a fork in the road and a white cottage on the right - there will be a large sign for Avon Tyrrell straight in front of you, take the right fork.

From the west: head for Ringwood via the A31 or the A338, continue east past Ringwood for approximately 1 mile and as you get to the top of a hill turn left, signposted Burley and services.

Continue to Burley and Avon Tyrrell, following the directions above.

Around the New Forest, the many places to see include the New Forest Wildlife Park in Southampton, an ancient natural woodland and wildlife haven (look out for otters and owls); the award-winning National Motor Museum at Beaulieu and Liberty's Owl, Raptor and Reptile Centre at Ringwood.

Pipsqeaks have the home of Peppa Pig World at Paultons Family Theme Park 30 minutes away for actively exciting day out, as well as the hands-on activities and indoor and outdoor play areas of Longdown Dairy Farm in Southampton and the Dinosaur Museum in Dorchester. Naturally, they might like trekking with a New Forest pony too.
