  • Peaceful site surrounded by lakes, on the edge of the New Forest
  • Bookable activities including high ropes, climbing and abseiling
  • Play area, table tennis and shop; Bransgore five minutes' drive
Set up camp for a night or several at Avon Tyrrell Outdoor Activity Centre and Campsite, set in 65 acres in the New Forest, for busy days with a wide range of forest adventures. Among the outdoor adventures and field study activities here (which must be booked in advance and are subject to availability), you can try high and low ropes, climbing and abseiling, archery, zipwire and heaps more under the eyes of its experienced instructors – or take yourself off under your own guidance for orienteering, treasure hunting, mountain biking and fishing in its lush surrounding lakes… If you need a day off from all the action, the site also has a play area and wifi. (Table tennis and kid-sized bouldering walls are around too, if you really can't help yourself…) The several amenities blocks are well equipped with a toilet block with hot showers, a baby-changing room and washing-up facilities. A small shop is to hand for basic supplies, but both Bransgore and Burley are only two miles away if you need anything else – maybe see how fast you can run there and back…? There's also an on-site café (open during high season only, with varying opening hours each month) serving the likes of jacket potatoes, paninis and other bits.

What customers say

This campsite boasts beautiful woodland and lake surroundings with numerous activities available. Visitors praise the friendly and helpful staff, clean facilities, and spacious pitches. However, some guests experienced noise from aircraft and other campers, particularly late at night. Accessibility issues for touring caravans on muddy tracks and some reports of dated or insufficient toilet/shower facilities were also noted. The cost of activities was a concern for some.

Electric grass pitch (lake view, no pets)

Liked The site was beautiful. Great walks. Lake was wonderful to sit next to and watch the carp. Lots of places for the children to play. Large pitches with plenty of space in between pitches. The activities available for older children to book were fab and my 8 year old loved it. I’d definitely recommend this place and would return.

Disliked The showers drenched clothes if you didn’t hang them over the cubicle. The showers were cold first thing in a morning. Large cubicles would be better.
Changing rooms could do with a mirror.
I’d prefer male and female showers/ toilets/ sinks.
Washing for laundry would be better.
There were no activities for my 4 year old which was a shame. She felt she was missing out.

Non-electric forest floor tent pitch (forest, pet friendly)

Liked Showers and toilets were cleaned regularly, although a little small and on a short cycle. Water was hot for cleaning dishes! Plenty of bike trails and little parks. Cafe onsite! Lots of things to do within the area.

Disliked Not many lights towards the toilet blocks.
Showers didn’t stay on long enough. Not many outdoor activities for under 5 year olds….

Electric grass and earth tent pitch (no pets, woodland)

Liked Site is clean and well managed. Activites and food on site. Hot water available for dishes and showers and lots of drinking water areas. Forest and the lake are beautiful. Atmosphere is very friendly thanks to staff and other campers.

Disliked Change to the policy so only bbqs are allowed which is 100% understandable given the drought however forwarning would have been nice.

Local attractions

Several bike tracks start directly from the site, so pack a picnic and head off into the New Forest to find your own adventure – perhaps you might fancy a pedal to the Dorset and Hampshire beaches of Christchurch, Mideford, Southbourne or Highcliffe...? The sands of Bournemouth are about 10 miles away. Around the New Forest, the many places to see include the New Forest Wildlife Park in Southampton, an ancient natural woodland and wildlife haven (look out for otters and owls); the award-winning National Motor Museum at Beaulieu, and Liberty's Owl, Raptor and Reptile Centre at Ringwood. Pipsqueaks have the home of Peppa Pig World at Paultons Family Theme Park 30 minutes away for an actively exciting day out, as well as the hands-on activities and indoor and outdoor play areas of Longdown Dairy Farm in Southampton and the Dinosaur Museum in Dorchester. Naturally, they might like trekking with a New Forest pony too.
