General

  • Peaceful site surrounded by lakes, on the edge of the New Forest
  • Activities including high ropes, climbing and abseiling
  • Play area, tennis, bouldering walls and café

Set up camp for a night or several at Avon Tyrrell Outdoor Activity Centre in the New Forest, for guaranteed busy days among a wide range of forest adventures.

For among the outdoor adventures and field study activities here, you can try high and low ropes, climbing and abseiling, archery, zipwire and heaps more under the eyes of its experienced instructors – or take yourself off under your own guidance for orienteering, treasure hunting, mountain biking and fishing in its lush surrounding lakes....

Happily, a café serving the likes of jacket potatoes, paninis etc is here too so that adventurers don't have far to forage when it comes to light bites, and if you need a day off from all the action the site also has a play area and free wifi. (A tennis court and bouldering walls are around too if you really can't help yourself...)

The Avon Tyrrell amenities block is well equipped with toilets, hot showers, a baby-changing room, washing-up facilities and a launderette. A small shop is to hand for basic supplies, but both Bransgore and Burley are only two miles away if you need anything else – maybe see how fast you can run there and back...?

Please note

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

Swimming in the lake is not allowed.

Minimum spacing of 5 metres between pitches.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Owing to government regulations, groups of 6 or more people are not permitted.

A cable measuring at least 3 metres is needed for the electric hook-ups.

Facilities/activities including Archery, Paddleboarding and High Ropes are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

The laundry facilities are currently closed due to restrictions imposed by the coronavirus outbreak.

Protective masks must be worn at all times in common areas.

Coronavirus update: because of government guidance, some activities may not be available. The laundry facilities and fridge freezer are also unavailable.

Café Explore is currently closed for the winter season.

Secure site, big pitch, large forest type site in a great location. Forest walks and short drive the beach.

    Disliked:

Not really their fault, but very wet when we were there, so the toilets and showers even up with a muddy floor. Plenty of hot water and good size showers.

Loved the beautiful location amongst the Autumn leaves, with nearby amazing walks. Loved our waterside pitch with views over the lake and visit from a friendly goose. Loved the price, the cleanliness of the shower and toilet block during COVID-19, and the helpfulness of the staff.

    Disliked:

The field turned rather muddy after just one night, although not sure much could be done about that. The playground wobbly bridge needs fixing - my child slipped on it. The treetop walk started from 8 years old and my 7 year old could easily have done it.

Really nice campsite in the woods with lots of activities and space to explore. We arrived after some really heavy rainfall and after a few tries had to give up trying to pitch on our original grass pitch, they were able to accommodate us elsewhere which was good! Worth checking on their actual website as the size limit is smaller than pitch up States and in the summer you would probably not be able to stay with anything larger (narrow tracks and tricky turning areas when full etc)

Beautiful location in the New Forest surrounded by countryside. Very helpful when we got stuck and the pitch they moved us to was very good.

    Disliked:

Nothing open, first pitch we were allocated was waterlogged so we got stuck. Can't help wondering why they would allocate a very wet pitch to a motorhome.

Space and location lots of woodland walks.

    Disliked:

Very Disorganised at check in. I understood from staff the camping field was water logged in parts. Told originally to wait 10 minutes as field being checked. Then told to wait again. Third attempt to check in offered alternative pitch in woods no where near area I’d booked. To be then told a ‘group’ were being put there another member of staff. Waiting for an hour for various staff to decide wether I could checkin my VW T5 is totally unacceptable. I had booked lakeside. Non electric pitch. Myself and two young children. In the end it felt that I was going to be turned away. Finally I was told to find a pitch myself and park on the original field I had booked onto. I found several suitable areas on high ground. No idea why staff had so much difficulty at check in. On a previous stay 4 weeks earlier the check in took 5 minutes no issues just told park anywhere there was no electric hookup.
