Farm and Fell Campsite: The ponies are always on the lookout for new visitors.

General

  • Family-friendly 200-acre Yorkshire Dales farm near the Dales Way
  • in southern Cumbria, a mile from the centre of Sedbergh
  • Hot meals and barbecue packs available; farm activities for guests

Farm and Fell Campsite thinks that every guest has the makings of a fine farmer. Get involved with hands-on agricultural activities at this peaceful farm park on the outskirts of Sedbergh and unleash your inner Dalesman or Daleswoman in scenic southern Cumbria.

This site is something of a geographical oddity, being located within the borders of the Yorkshire Dales but outside the boundaries of Yorkshire. The surroundings have all the smashing scenery you'd expect from this national park location, with highlights including the nearby river Rawthey, miles of dry stone walls and views over the spectacular Howgill Fells. Walkers itching to get out and explore it all have footpaths (including the Dales Way) that start almost opposite the site entrance.

Farm and Fell Campsite has a dedicated on-site kitchen (available when there are 10 or more pitches on site) open for breakfast, lunch and evening meals, where you can sample a wide variety of farm-produced food. At all other times, the site will happily drop you off and pick you up in Sedbergh, where there's great local hospitality.

Farm activities like lambing, calf rearing and sheep sheering may be available (to be booked separately – mention you're interested on the booking form to learn more).

The site also has mains water, toilets, hot showers and a waste disposal point.

Please note

No electric barbecues allowed.

The restaurant is open between 01/04 and 29/08.

Swimming in the lake is not allowed.

No charcoal barbecues allowed.

Entertainment and activities are available between 01/04 and 29/08.

Discount cards and gift vouchers cannot be applied to bookings made via Pitchup.com.

If making a fire, the fuel, logs and coal have to be purchased on site.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

Please note that the toilet/shower facilities are unisex.

At least one of the party members must be aged 16 or over.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

The onsite kitchen is only open when at least 10 pitches are occupied, otherwise the owners offer a free drop-off and pick-up to Sedbergh (2 minutes in the car) for families to enjoy the local hospitality instead.

The following farm experiences are available on the relevant dates (must be reserved onsite as soon as possible) :

01 April - 15 May : live lambing
20 - 22 May, 27 - 29 May and 01 - 05 June : calf rearing
10 - 12 June, 17 - 19 June, 24 - 26 June and 01 - 03 July : sheep shearing and shepherding
08 - 10 July and 15 - 17 July : Fell pony school

11-14 August 2022: Onsite Hells Fells Family Festival Charity Fundraiser weekend in support of armed forces, NHS & emergency service disadvantaged & vulnerable families.
Pitch price includes entry ticket to the event. The weekend includes live music, a trial bike competition, a motorcycle ride-out into the Lake District, hot food on site, a bar on-site and much more.

Stunning location, helpful and friendly staff. Despite being out of season the farmer took time to help our little ones feed the animals and provided a breakfast pack. Would of loved to climb the fell but there was too much to do as it was. Recommend the waffle cone in town. Back to basics camping.

We found a great spot at the top of the hill overlooking the picturesque rolling hills. In winter/wet, you might need 4WD to get up there but we managed fine in a van and an SUV. All I had to do was crack the back of the van open to view the stunning countryside. The hill was even steep enough for us to do a few hill sprints if you’re into that sort of thing!

Brian popped round every evening to check if we needed anything and offer us a wood burner. The showers at the bottom of camp are perfect as long as you don’t mind a little walk and the portaloos were very clean and well maintained although there were only two.

It’s an easy 25 minute drive from the campsite too Kendal and a sneaky 15 or so minutes on top of that and you’re in Windermere. We had a brilliant couple days enjoying the lakes.

    Thanks Brian!
