Harebeck Holidays: Owl Hoot pod with decking, storage box and solar lights

General

  • Peaceful quiet, scenic mountain views half a mile from Gosfoth village
  • Set on the edge of the Lake District; a mile from Gosforth
  • Farm tours, drying room and lock-up bicycle storage on request

Leap and lollop your way to Harebeck Holidays for peaceful rural breaks with mountain views near the Cumbrian coast. Set a mile outside the pretty village of Gosforth and 10 minutes' drive from Seascale beach, this site is perched on the western edge of the Lake District, making a great base for days out around the river Esk and Ravenglass.

The Wasdale Valley, where Harebeck Holidays is located, has lots of mountain views to liven up the scenery, including vistas over Scafell Pike, England's tallest peak. Let yourself get fully immersed in the countryside – and don't worry if your clothes come back a little on the damp side, as the site has a handy drying room where you can leave your boots and outdoor gear to air out.

Other on-site facilities include a bathroom block with two separate showers and three toilets, as well as extras like a changing mat, step, toddler seat and hair dryer if you need them; bath towels are also available to hire. Outside, there's secure lock-up bike storage available on request, as well as a washing-up unit with hand towels provided. When it comes to sourcing provisions, you can order eggs or a meat or veg pack from reception (at least 48 hours prior to arrival) or buy a disposable barbecue pack from site staff. Stocking up for the long haul? Harebeck Holidays is happy to take supermarket deliveries too.

You may also get the chance to go on a farm tour where the owners explain their agricultural methods and show off some of their prize animals.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro) and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

My only minor complaint was that it would be good to have hot water for washing up but we just boiled the kettle.

From the manager...

T hank you for your review and for the comment about hot water for washing up. This is being addressed this week as my plumber is looking at what can be done to rectify this..

A very quiet site with lots of wildlife around. Clean facilities. A very friendly host.

    Disliked:

Very basic facilities with DIY fittings.

From the manager...

Score for cleanliness seemed low as the toilet block facilities were cleaned at least twice a day with only two vans on the site and there are two rooms to the block.
The facilities are far from basic as there are two showers with hot water and three toilets over two rooms. There are also hair dryers in each room.Towels and shower mats were provided and changed if used. The doors to both rooms and individual toilets or showers can be locked from the inside. We also have a drying room should customers get their coats or boots wet when walking.

Recycling facilities and general waste disposal are provided but not toilet emptying as chemicals mean my waste treatment plant may be compromised.

DIY fittings? I suppose this may be a reaction to there being a retro kitchen fitting being reused/recycled as a pot wash facility that at the moment has only cold water. This is being looked at and investigated further to try to fit hot water,
The toilet block was bought second hand and the taps for hot water turn the wrong way and again this is being looked at by my plumber this week. All other fittings have been done by professionals.
I think this couple did not research the area fully prior to visiting to know what activities or places they could visit in the area.

Wifi is difficult to predict so no password is given as the internet is unreliable in my area. 4g phone signal can be used on site but may mean walking to an area to get the best signal.
