Westfield Paddock Caravan Site: Space for an awning

General

  • Adults-only touring park five minutes' drive from Seahouses
  • A five-minute drive from Bamburgh Castle and 20 from Dunstanburgh
  • Spacious farmland site where dogs and barbecues are welcome

Breathe easy on a break spent with other grownups at adults-only Westfield Paddock Caravan Site, a privately owned and peaceful touring park for those with on-board facilities, on the edge of the gorgeous Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Although this site surrounded by farmland is kept clear of kids, dogs are most welcome as long as they’re well behaved and socialised; an enclosed paddock is next to the pitching area where they can scamper about off lead. Other strolls include one towards the village of Seahouses about a mile away for a chip supper, although you can also stay well fed and watered with the assistance of the pubs and restaurants within the local area.

Food shops are also within easy reach when you're foraging for yourself, and barbecues are permitted at the park. Set the grill up at your pitch then head over to the service area to sort errands with amenities including chemical waste disposal, a water tap and rubbish and recycling facilities. Also on site is a handy information caravan stacked with leaflets to help you decide on days out – which might include wildlife-spotting boat trips to the Farne Islands, a round of sea-view golf or outings to the stunning coastal castles at Bamburgh and Dunstanburgh…

Bringing bikes along (or hiring locally) is a fine idea too – the area’s well served for bike paths, and the Sustrans Coast and Castles South route passes by the park.

Please note

Group bookings of 3 or more units (e.g. tent, touring caravan, motorhome or accommodation hire) travelling together are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

Tents are not accepted at this park.

Bookings must not be for more than 28 consecutive nights.

Reception is unmanned after 5 p.m.. Please inform the site while on your way there should you expect to arrive after this time, so that the team can provide information about your unit/pitch.

Single-sex bookings of 4 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

This is a quiet site: no music is allowed.

Good location, within easy walking distance to coast and town,

    Disliked:

Expensive, compared to other sites around the same price didn't not have a lot of facilities as we were in a campervan it did not matter to us, just pointing this out.
We were given code for wifi but when you searched for network it did not come up, we had 4g signal so was not an issue.

From the manager...

Thanks for your feedback, just pointing out that in the area we are very much middle of the road pricewise, £20-£50 per night is the local range. As you were in an 8m+ motorhome I'd suggest that hardstanding and your own water & electric supply on pitch were all you really needed, and I trust you used our chemical sluice and refuse collection as most one nighters do. Sorry you struggled with our wi-fi, the pitch is fairly close to line of sight of our signal, sure we could have sorted that for you if you with us for a longer stay. Hope you had a safe onward journey.

Quiet and peaceful and the area is small so not many other caravans or motorhomes.

    Disliked:

We did not see any of the staff in the days we stayed there though we were out and about a lot. I would say that it is overpriced given there are no facilities such as showers, toilets etc. Would I go back there? The answer is no based of it price for what you get.

From the manager...

Strange that, as your pitch was right next to the office and there were at least two of us in on Friday and Saturday and another of the team was out doing grounds maintenance for 3 hours on Sunday. The fact we have no Toilets and Showers is well publicized before you push the button on your booking and in these reviews, and you know the price before you book....

From the manager...

Thanks for your feeback, the fact we don't have toilets & showers is all over our pitch up entry, and referred to many times in the reviews area, everyone has the opportunity to see the fact for themselves that we accept bookings from people with on-board facilities. Pleased that it doesn't appear to have spoiled your stay and that you'd visit again.

Quiet well kept site with very level pitches30/08/2022

  • Liked:

Beautifully kept site with good size pitches. Very quiet and ideally located for Seahouses village and the amazing beach.
Although situated next to a road, it was very quiet and peaceful.
Pitches were private and shrubs planted so it will become even more so when they have grown a little.
    Pitches very level.

    Disliked:

The dog walking field was more of a path around the perimeter of a small field which was very overgrown with nettles etc. To walk around took less than a minute but I suppose most people where on the beach with their dogs as we were.
Not the owners' responsibility and although clearly signed 'Please pick up dog waste' the path was littered with it. We picked up other dogs to make it more pleasant for the next walker.

From the manager...

Thanks for your feedback and pleased you generally liked the site, unsure why you wouldn't recomend to friends, but if the dog paddock - (we don't refer to it as a field,) was your main purpose for booking sorry it didn't live up to expectations. As you implied, people's usage impacts on others, just sorry that you stayed when there appeared to be inconsiderate guests on site. Pity this wasn't mentioned at the time of your stay as we could have done something about it.

Directions

For the most straightforward route from the A1, follow the B1342 through Bamburgh where it turns into the B1340. Just after the stone buildings on the left and wildlife pond on the right take the narrow road to the right signposted Shoreston. After a mile, at the small crossroads, Westfield Paddock is opposite you.

Local attractions

Stick around Seahouses for the golf club, horse riding and afternoons at the spa, or set off for sandy times on North Sunderland’s shores (all about five minutes’ drive). Wildlife-spotting boat trips to the Farne Islands leave from the village, with chances to peer at puffins, seals and dolphins during the tour.

Bamburgh Castle’s about the same distance from the park as Seahouses, and a beachside walking road from the site means it’s possible to reach it with a ramble of around three miles.

More golf, with views across the coast, is to be had at Bamburgh Castle Golf Club (5 minutes’ drive); alternatively, continue explorations of stately structures at Dunstanburgh Castle – another beachside fortification dating back to the 14th century – and Alnwick Castle (under 25 minutes away).

Alternatively, take trips to the historic Etal Estate (yet another stunning structure in the area) and take a ride on the most northerly narrow-gauge steam train in England, the Heatherslaw Light Railway (35 minutes’ drive).

  • Northumberland Coast (5.0 miles)
