Bamburgh castle

  • Small touring park less than five minutes' drive from Seahouses
  • A five-minute drive from Bamburgh, with two castles within 10 miles
  • Spacious farmland site where dogs, families and barbecues are welcome
Breathe easy on a break spent at Westfield Paddock Caravan Site, a small, privately owned and peaceful touring park for those with on-board facilities. On the edge of the gorgeous Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the family-run park is surrounded by gorgeous farmland with lovely views, and it's family-friendly too. Dogs are also welcome as long as they’re well behaved; an enclosed paddock is next to the pitches where they can scamper about off lead. Other strolls include one towards the village of Seahouses about a mile away for a chip supper, although you can also stay well fed and watered with the assistance of the pubs and restaurants within the local area. Food shops are within easy reach when you're foraging for yourself, and barbecues are permitted at the park. Set the grill up at your pitch then head over to the service area to sort errands with amenities including chemical waste disposal, a water tap and rubbish and recycling facilities. Also on site is a handy information caravan stacked with leaflets to help you decide on days out – which might include wildlife-spotting boat trips to the Farne Islands, a round of sea-view golf or outings to the stunning coastal castles at Bamburgh and Dunstanburgh… Bringing bikes along (or hiring locally) is a fine idea too – the area’s well served for bike paths, and the Sustrans Coast and Castles South route passes by the park.

Fully-serviced grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked The site looked beautiful, fenced in dog paddock very quiet. Nice size pitches

Disliked We got a text cancelling our booking saying that they had double booked our pitch. Was was very disappointing as we’d already arrived and pitched up. Text come through whilst driving to site, didn’t see due to driving. They’d made arrangements for us to be put on another site a few miles away, but nearly double the price.
Bad experience in my opinion.

Fully-serviced grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Clean campsite, good level pitches, good walk to Seahouses and also Bamburgh Castle, if you want to test your walking stamina. Our boat trip from Seahouses was fantastic, we went round the Farne Islands and saw the birds nesting, grey seals and as a wonderful added bonus, we saw dolphins!

Disliked It would have been appreciated if we had been informed of work being done on the house next to the site, the work starts early and is very noisy especially the workmen's radio! Not a quiet site as advertised!

Fully-serviced grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked I immediately stated that this is one of the nicest CL’s I’ve ever stayed at, and it didn’t disappoint..
I knew I would be returning and I’m booked in for mid-August..
10-15 minute walk to a magnificent beach. You also have easy access to everything the area has to offer (boat trips, castles, nearby islands, Sandy beaches and spectacular scenery)…

Fully-serviced grass and gravel touring pitch

Liked Very well kept. Particularly liked the chart on the way in showing which pitch you were in. Very quiet. Nice walk in to Seahouses. Level pitches.

Disliked No toilets and showers which we knew about before hand. If there was this facility we’d definitely return. Only glass recycling.

Liked Beautifully kept site in a quiet, peaceful setting with just a few pitches. The secure dog paddock was a great facility.

Disliked Didn’t receive any communication ahead of our stay, which was fine as all pitches allocations were on a board, but wifi details weren’t provided. Otherwise a fantastic site.

For the most straightforward route from the A1, follow the B1342 through Bamburgh where it turns into the B1340. Just after the stone buildings on the left and wildlife pond on the right take the narrow road to the right signposted Shoreston. Local attractions

Stick around Seahouses for the golf club, horse riding and afternoons at the spa, or set off for sandy times on North Sunderland’s shores (all about five minutes’ drive). Wildlife-spotting boat trips to the Farne Islands leave from the village, with chances to peer at puffins, seals and dolphins during the tour. Bamburgh Castle’s about the same distance from the park as Seahouses, and a beachside walking road from the site means it’s possible to reach it with a ramble of around three miles. More golf, with views across the coast, is to be had at Bamburgh Castle Golf Club (5 minutes’ drive); alternatively, continue explorations of stately structures at Dunstanburgh Castle – another beachside fortification dating back to the 14th century – and Alnwick Castle (under 25 minutes away). Alternatively, take trips to the historic Etal Estate (yet another stunning structure in the area) and take a ride on the most northerly narrow-gauge steam train in England, the Heatherslaw Light Railway (35 minutes’ drive).
