Westfield Paddock Caravan Site: Flat grass pitches

General

  • Adults-only touring park five minutes' drive from Seahouses
  • A five-minute drive from Bamburgh Castle and 20 from Dunstanburgh
  • Spacious farmland site where dogs and barbecues are welcome

Breathe easy on a break spent with other grownups at adults-only Westfield Paddock Caravan Site, a privately owned and peaceful touring park for those with on-board facilities, on the edge of the gorgeous Northumberland Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Although this site surrounded by farmland is kept clear of kids, dogs are most welcome as long as they’re well behaved and socialised; an enclosed paddock is next to the pitching area where they can scamper about off lead. Other strolls include one towards the village of Seahouses about a mile away for a chip supper, although you can also stay well fed and watered with the assistance of the pubs and restaurants within easy driving distance.

Food shops are also within easy reach when you're foraging for yourself, and barbecues are permitted at the park. Set the grill up at your pitch then head over to the service area to sort errands with amenities including chemical waste disposal, a water tap and rubbish and recycling facilities. Also on site is a handy information caravan stacked with leaflets to help you decide on days out – which might include wildlife-spotting boat trips to the Farne Islands, a round of sea-view golf or outings to the stunning coastal castles at Bamburgh and Dunstanburgh…

Bringing bikes along (or hiring locally) is a fine idea too – the area’s well served for bike paths, and the Sustrans Coast and Castles South route passes by the park.

Convenient pitches with water for a Motorhome on the pitch.

    Disliked:

    Extra charge for windbreak
No toilet block which for 25 / night is a little expensive.

From the manager...

Thanks for your feed back, you've no idea the damage a 6 pole windbreak makes on each pitch everytime one is used. We are amongst the less expensive sites in the area, with some being as much as £50 per night, and some of the new exclusive pitch sites with no facilities at all can be £100. One rather expects an 8m motorhome to have its own facilities, and both price and the fact we don't have a toilet block is in our publicised entry.

Excellent serviced pitch, our pitch was right next to the entrance to the dog paddock which our border collie loved. Very quiet site and a perfect view of the stars at night. Short walk into Seahouses for “essentials” and a little further for Bamburgh and the castle.

Pitch was level and we were provided we our own electric HU and water tap.

Thanks for your feedback pleased you and your dogs enjoyed the stay and star gazing. We did think we'd gained a pony, but then realised you had a Harlequin.

Thanks for taking time to feedback. No delivery for food? presume you may mean takeaways? hardly a reflection on our facilities and service. and our entry clearly states no toilets/showers so you knew that before you booked. But pleased to see you'd still visit again despite the negatives.

From the manager...

There are no words.... why do you travel in a Nissan NV200- smaller than Vw with 2 dogs, ok with an awning, and book somewhere for 4 nights which clearly publicises no toilets or showers, and then leave negative feedback about the site not having toilets or showers . You planned your trip, read our entry and chose to book. thanks for stating you'd recommend to friends, please make sure you tell them we don't have toilets or showers!!

Directions

For the most straightforward route from the A1, follow the B1342 through Bamburgh where it turns into the B1340. Just after the stone buildings on the left and wildlife pond on the right take the narrow road to the right signposted Shoreston. After a mile, at the small crossroads, Westfield Paddock is opposite you.

Please note: All distances on this page are calculated "as the crow flies" - please check actual distance depending on your mode of travel using the Get directions button above.

Local attractions

Stick around Seahouses for the golf club, horse riding and afternoons at the spa, or set off for sandy times on North Sunderland’s shores (all about five minutes’ drive). Wildlife-spotting boat trips to the Farne Islands leave from the village, with chances to peer at puffins, seals and dolphins during the tour.

Bamburgh Castle’s about the same distance from the park as Seahouses, and a beachside walking road from the site means it’s possible to reach it with a ramble of around three miles.

More golf, with views across the coast, is to be had at Bamburgh Castle Golf Club (10 minutes’ drive); alternatively, continue explorations of stately structures at Dunstanburgh Castle – another beachside fortification dating back to the 14th century – and Alnwick Castle (under 25 minutes away).

For trips to Etal estate (yet another stunning structure in the area), take a ride on the most northerly steam train in England, the Heatherslaw Light Railway (35 minutes’ drive).

Must see

  • Bamburgh Castle (3.9 kilometres)
  • Northumberland Coast (8.0 kilometres)
  • Lindisfarne Castle (11.9 kilometres)

National Trust

  • Lindisfarne Castle (11.9 kilometres)
  • Dunstanburgh Castle (13.0 kilometres)
