  • Dog-friendly park with direct access to Kielder Forest and Pennine Way
  • A 15-minute drive from Otterburn and 25 to Jedburgh
  • Well-kept amenities with plenty of free hot water
If you have a canine adventurer, prepare to bring them here. A barkingly high amount of woofsome walkies are available in the area surrounding Otterburn's dog-friendly Border Forest Caravan Park, for it has direct access from its bridge over the burn to the mighty Kielder Forest and the Pennine Way. Collar a stay here forthwith... Its location and its amicable, quiet and family-friendly feel make Border Forest Caravan Park a popular place for Northumberland stays. Its amenities are cleanly kept and include ladies' and gents' showers with free hot water, plus toilets and washing-up facilities in the park's centre. (It's worth noting that from time to time during the summer months pesky midges make an appearance, so it's worth packing your repellents.) As Border Forest is a quiet park, there's no shop or club on site, but a small supermarket is a short drive away. The local village Otterburn has a café, pubs, shops and a tourist information centre.

What customers say

This is a peaceful, well-maintained site in a stunning rural location, perfect for walks and stargazing. Visitors praise the friendly and helpful owners, exceptional dog-walking facilities, and clean amenities, though some note the facilities are dated. Proximity to Kielder Forest and the Pennine Way is a major draw. Stock up on supplies as the site is remote. Midges can be an issue depending on weather.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked We loved everything. Management were pleasant and helpful. Being wheelchair dependant, our tourer is adapted for my special needs, but hubby tells me that the toilets and showers were pristine. The road surfaces and pitches were all smooth enough to allow me to access the whole park, and even venture a fair distance outside of the park, to look at and enjoy time by the river. Many camp sites are deep in gravel, which is no go for wheelchairs, walking frames . Peace and quiet, lots of bird song. The perfect place for walkers, dog owners, bird watchers and people like me who love to just sit around, doing nothing very much. We'll be back.xx

Disliked I'm sure that rainy weather was the culprit, but if the grass had been a little shorter along the path to the bridge, I would have been able to venture further. I did meet one lady who had a complaint. She said that her dogs would be going home an inch shorter than when they arrived, because they've never walked so much or had so much fun in their lives.

From the manager: Thank you for your review ,we are so pleased that you want to return for another visit, hopefully the weather will be better.
Re your comments about the grass along the bridleway , I will look into what we might be able to do. .

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Friendly staff, easy to find. Good hot water, toilets and small kitchen area next to the touring pitches. Everything clean and tidy.

It's really, really dark at night😁

Disliked Shower block could have been warmer (it's mid October, so quite chilly). As others have stated, it's a little dated.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Super site. Right at the edge of Kielder Forest. Toilet and shower facilities were clean & sufficient. Owner was very friendly and helpful. You pay £10 for a fob to enter the barrier and get it refunded on leaving. You need an extra long cable for EHU as standard won’t reach. Great walks right from the site and the stargazing is fabulous. The skies were very clear we saw the Milky Way, millions of stars including shooting stars. There are no shops or eating places nearby so take enough food and drink if you’re not planning on driving around. It’s a very peaceful site with 3 pet pot bellied pigs which are very friendly and chicken wandering around.Theres a super large dog walking area through a gate next to the touring pitches where the dogs could run wild off lead. Fresh drinking water is available and there’s a toilet waste disposal area and a small kitchen for use to wash up which also has a microwave and some basic cleaning things(mop/bucket/vacuum/brush and pan) there are books and dvd’s to borrow in the kitchen. We also had full phone signal despite being very remote and my campervan small aerial picked up all channels. We would definitely recommend this site and will visit again.

Disliked We didn’t dislike anything however should have had a drive away awning so we could have gone off further to explore but we did lots of walking locally all the same

Liked The showers and toilets are amazingly clean … best camp I have ever stayed in for cleanliness, owners are friendly and the dog walking area is lovely ! Our lab Elvis loved playing in the river also the little kitchen area with microwave is a very good idea

Disliked I know they let you know it’s remote /quiet but does state a pub within 5 miles … we went and the pub was shut… another pub in Otterburn … nowhere to park …. Drove 29 miles to Jedburgh and no pubs open … no local shops amenities

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Sorry about the pub being closed,we have no control over it.
Pleased you enjoyed your stay

Local attractions

Kielder Forest is indeed mighty: this is the biggest human-made woodland in England and covers 250 acres. Roe deer roam here, many an archaeological feature and Site of Special Scientific Interest can be found, and the forest is also home to Kielder Castle, piles of walking and cycling trails, and Kielder Observatory (this is top stargazing territory too). Also in the forest, mosey along to the reservoir Kielder Water and Leaplish Waterside Park to hire fishing and pleasure boats, hide in the red squirrel hide, walk on water or try other activities like archery, crossbows, sea scooters or gymnastics. Within easy driving distance of the site are famed Northumberland and Scottish Borders attractions like the budget-friendly Jedforest farm and animal park with native and exotic species and Mary Queen of Scots' House, both at Jedburgh 25 minutes away; Alnwick Castle and Hadrian's Wall (about an hour, and both also rather mighty); 19th-century Cragside House (45 minutes' drive), and the first-class Holy Island of Lindisfarne off the Northumberland coast (an hour and a half). Clay pigeon shooting is also available locally.
