  • Dog-friendly park with direct access to Kielder Forest and Pennine Way
  • A 15-minute drive from Otterburn and 25 to Jedburgh
  • Well-kept amenities with plenty of free hot water
If you have a canine adventurer, prepare to bring them here. A barkingly high amount of woofsome walkies are available in the area surrounding Otterburn's dog-friendly Border Forest Caravan Park, for it has direct access from its bridge over the burn to the mighty Kielder Forest and the Pennine Way. Collar a stay here forthwith... Its location and its amicable, quiet and family-friendly feel make Border Forest Caravan Park a popular place for Northumberland stays. Its amenities are cleanly kept and include ladies' and gents' showers with free hot water, plus toilets and washing-up facilities in the park's centre. (It's worth noting that from time to time during the summer months pesky midges make an appearance, so it's worth packing your repellents.) As Border Forest is a quiet park, there's no shop or club on site, but a small supermarket is a short drive away. The local village Otterburn has a café, pubs, shops and a tourist information centre.

What customers say

This peaceful, rural site is praised for its stunning location, ideal for walking and wildlife spotting, with many highlighting the excellent dog walking facilities. While the remoteness is enjoyed by many, some found the facilities dated and cold, with intermittent hot water reported. Managers have noted that upgrades are ongoing and that the site's remote nature means visitors should come prepared.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked We stopped here for a couple of nights on our way up to Scotland. The scenery was lovely and our dog really liked the fog walking areas.

Disliked The pitches were a little too close together so you did feel on top of your neighbours quite a bit. We could hear their conversations.

Camping pod (backpacker, no cars)

Liked Staff were friendly and helpful. Site was ideally located for walks, on the pennine way. Nice addition of the kitchen with microwave and kettle and book swap.
The site itself was peaceful, lovely views and a nice little stream to dip your toes into if too hot!
Dog friendly, the addition of a dog walking field is a real bonus!

Disliked Nothing!

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Location, people and pitches.

Disliked Unfortunately the showers and toilet block were a bit dark and dingy. Black and rusty drain gratings plus dark floor tiles did not make it an inviting experience.

From the manager: Thank you for your constructive review.
Funnily enough Ken who does the painting etc here and is a keen caravaner , said we need better lighting in the gents. Reluctantly it will be done, more expense!!
Drain grating is all black plastic

Liked The peace and quiet, the amazing area for dog walking and close to some lovely walks. The owners are very nice people and very friendly. We also enjoyed visiting their pet pigs with our dog.

Disliked Ladies facilities could have been better. The toilets were in the with showers so if someone is using a shower you can use the toilet.

From the manager: Hi glad you enjoyed your stay.
Toilets/showers are wet room all in one.
Did you miss our facilities and use the army ones? They are just are a bit odd?

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Beautiful location and surroundings, easy access for forest walks.

Disliked No onsite entertainment, restaurant / bar.
Dogs have to be on lead whilst on site which we respect but not able to throw a ball from motorhome door 10m to vacant patch of grass.

Recommend to friends Visit again

From the manager: Maybe if Disney make a good offer,or Alton Towers then we will rock , from the Carter Bar to Ponteland, with noise and Candyfloss

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Perfect for dog owners, the fully enclosed dog walk is actually more like a country park. Our Border Collie absolutely loved it.
Great location for walking, straight into Kielder Forest, generous pitches, quiet site, toilets/ showers adequate with plenty of hot water.
We will definitely stay again.

Local attractions

Kielder Forest is indeed mighty: this is the biggest human-made woodland in England and covers 250 acres. Roe deer roam here, many an archaeological feature and Site of Special Scientific Interest can be found, and the forest is also home to Kielder Castle, piles of walking and cycling trails, and Kielder Observatory (this is top stargazing territory too). Also in the forest, mosey along to the reservoir Kielder Water and Leaplish Waterside Park to hire fishing and pleasure boats, hide in the red squirrel hide, walk on water or try other activities like archery, crossbows, sea scooters or gymnastics. Within easy driving distance of the site are famed Northumberland and Scottish Borders attractions like the budget-friendly Jedforest farm and animal park with native and exotic species and Mary Queen of Scots' House, both at Jedburgh 25 minutes away; Alnwick Castle and Hadrian's Wall (about an hour, and both also rather mighty); 19th-century Cragside House (45 minutes' drive), and the first-class Holy Island of Lindisfarne off the Northumberland coast (an hour and a half). Clay pigeon shooting is also available locally.
