  • Dog-friendly park with direct access to Kielder Forest and Pennine Way
  • A 15-minute drive from Otterburn and 25 to Jedburgh
  • Well-kept amenities with plenty of free hot water
If you have a canine adventurer, prepare to bring them here. A barkingly high amount of woofsome walkies are available in the area surrounding Otterburn's dog-friendly Border Forest Caravan Park, for it has direct access from its bridge over the burn to the mighty Kielder Forest and the Pennine Way. Collar a stay here forthwith... Its location and its amicable, quiet and family-friendly feel make Border Forest Caravan Park a popular place for Northumberland stays. Its amenities are cleanly kept and include ladies' and gents' showers with free hot water, plus toilets and washing-up facilities in the park's centre. (It's worth noting that from time to time during the summer months pesky midges make an appearance, so it's worth packing your repellents.) As Border Forest is a quiet park, there's no shop or club on site, but a small supermarket is a short drive away. The local village Otterburn has a café, pubs, shops and a tourist information centre.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Beautiful site - very quiet and peaceful. Good facilities dotted around the site - loved the fact the kitchen had a kettle and microwave and hoover (didn't use any of them but there were some walkers who pitched up for a night whilst we were there and it was nice to see they could get a hot drink and meal if they hadn't brought facilities with them). Great showers where you don't have to keep pressing a button. We parked right near the stream which was peaceful and relaxing to wake up too and some really good walks right on the doorstep. Lovely large well maintained pitches

Liked: Loved this site. Very friendly & helpful. My DDB & Shih Tzu loved their first camping trip. We learned a lot at the weekend as it was our first time in our camper. Showers and toilets were immaculate. Dog park over the bridge was excellent as my 2 could be let off their leads to explore and tire themselves out. Would definitely stay again!

Disliked: Midges. This cannot be helped. It is a part of nature and something you just need to prepare for.

Liked: Site easy to find, The man that greeted us at reception was really helpful and friendly. The site is beautifully located and the pitch we had was right next to the stream. Nice dog park and some great walks from the site. The nearest shop we could find was 8 miles away. The facilities were basic. Would we go again? Yes definitely.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: The locarion is rural and quiet. Some pitches are close together in places, the hardstanding is level and the grass is good. There are toilets and kitchen close by but the showers are a short walk to the top of the site, maybe a minute or 2. The showers were clean and the water was hot. Nice pathways to go walking near the stream.

Disliked: No pubs you can walk to. No WiFi.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Very scenic park, lovely walks along the river. Such a peaceful place to stay in our campervan. Site very clean, plenty of hot water in the showers though like others have said they would benefit from an update. We used it as a base to travel into Scotland, using park and ride at Craighills to get into Edinburgh. Went into Jedburgh for some shopping and to refuel the van as there is nothing close by. If you are looking for a peaceful getaway this is the place for you.

Disliked: Nothing to dislike

From the manager: Pleased you enjoyed your visit to us. As you say there is nothing other than forest and countryside here,no pubs or shops.

Local attractions

Kielder Forest is indeed mighty: this is the biggest human-made woodland in England and covers 250 acres. Roe deer roam here, many an archaeological feature and Site of Special Scientific Interest can be found, and the forest is also home to Kielder Castle, piles of walking and cycling trails, and Kielder Observatory (this is top stargazing territory too). Also in the forest, mosey along to the reservoir Kielder Water and Leaplish Waterside Park to hire fishing and pleasure boats, hide in the red squirrel hide, walk on water or try other activities like archery, crossbows, sea scooters or gymnastics. Within easy driving distance of the site are famed Northumberland and Scottish Borders attractions like the budget-friendly Jedforest farm and animal park with native and exotic species and Mary Queen of Scots' House, both at Jedburgh 25 minutes away; Alnwick Castle and Hadrian's Wall (about an hour, and both also rather mighty); 19th-century Cragside House (45 minutes' drive), and the first-class Holy Island of Lindisfarne off the Northumberland coast (an hour and a half). Clay pigeon shooting is also available locally.
