General

  • Dog-friendly park with direct access to Kielder Forest and Pennine Way
  • Many animals to meet on site
  • Modern and well-kept amenities with free hot water

If you have a canine adventurer, prepare to bring them here. A barkingly high amount of woofsome walkies are available in the area surrounding Otterburn's dog-friendly Border Forest Caravan Park, for it has direct access from its bridge over the barn to the mighty Kielder Forest and the Pennine Way. Collar a stay here forthwith.

As you might reckon from a park so firmly animal friendly, quite a menagerie is on site too: come here to meet the three Kunekune pigs Rita, Bubble and Squeak; Bertie the Labradoodle and Marmite the Giant Schnauzer; Shetland ponies Ant and Dec (they're quite tiny); Dakota the donkey, and Blanche and her chick friends.

And as you also might reckon from all this, its location and its amicable, quiet and family-friendly feel, Border Forest Caravan Park is a popular place for Northumberland stays... Its amenities are cleanly kept and include modern ladies' and gents' showers with free hot water, and toilets, washing-up facilities and a fridge in the park's centre.

As Border Forest is a quiet park, there's no shop or club on site, but a small supermarket is a short drive away. Local village Otterburn has a café, pubs, shops and a tourist information centre.

Please note

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Single-sex bookings of 3 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Group bookings of 3 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

We are a very quiet family-run park - there is no shop or club on site.

No single-sex parties or under 25s accepted via Pitchup.com.

The shower/toilet block at the top of the park (a three-minute walk from the touring pitches) is open all year round.

Very nice and peaceful and the welcome to the site was good and informative perfect spot as we have two elderly dogs and we were able to get them out direct from the motor home for short walks regularly. And the bonus was we saw a red squirrel.

Just a brief overnight stop while exploring the North East. The pod was just what we required and the need to bring all camping equipment was clearly explained in advance.
The owners were friendly and helpful - even providing the tools for a minor car repair - and recommended places to visit in the area.
    A very dog-friendly site.

    Disliked:

The midges - but we had been warned! Perhaps a mesh screen on the door would be a useful addition to the pod.

From the manager...

  • Liked:

The location (on the main A68 road, but down by a little river, with space to take the dog for a decent walk in the forest); facilities - the main showers were perhaps due for refurbishment (although they were 'free' and with normal controls and not too far from anywhere), but the small toilet and waste facilities block with kitchen/library at the bottom end of the site were lovely and very convenient; owner/manager was friendly and helpful; no separate charges or deposits for electrics or showers - just hook up; nice level hard standing.

    Disliked:

Wi-fi only worked by reception, but that's still more than some campsites offer!

From the manager...

Thanks for your review and we're pleased you enjoyed your stay here with such fantastic walks directly from our park,we are very lucky!
After many years battling with Openreach to have broadband we are due to have it here some time in Spring on 2019,we are not holding our breath, lol! We hope to see you again :)

From Newcastle head towards Newcastle Airport on A696, following directions to Jedburgh all the time (the A696 becomes the A68). Pass through Otterburn and the small hamlet of Rochester, and Border Forest is four miles further on the left hand side, 300 yards after Forest Drive.

From Scotland we are five miles south of the border on the A68 on the right-hand side, one mile after Byrness Village.

Local attractions

Kielder Forest is indeed mighty: this is the biggest human-made woodland in England and covers 250 acres. Roe deer roam here, many an archaeological feature and Site of Special Scientific Interest can be found, and the forest is also home to Kielder Castle, piles of walking and cycling trails, and Kielder Observatory (this is top stargazing territory too).

Also in the forest, hop along to the reservoir Kielder Water and Leaplish Waterside Park to hire fishing and pleasure boats, hide in the red squirrel hide, walk on water or try other activities like archery, crossbows, sea scooters or gymnastics.

Within an hour's drive of the site are famed Northumberland and Scottish Borders attractions like the budget-friendly Jedforest farm and animal park with native and exotic species and Mary Queen of Scots' House, both at Jedburgh; Alnwick Castle and Hadrian's Wall (both also rather mighty); nineteenth century Cragside House, and the first-class Holy Island of Lindisfarne off the Northumberland coast. Clay pigeon shooting is also available locally.
