Border Forest Caravan Park: View from the hill

General

  • Dog-friendly park with direct access to Kielder Forest and Pennine Way
  • A 15-minute drive from Otterburn and 25 to Jedburgh
  • Well-kept amenities with plenty of free hot water

If you have a canine adventurer, prepare to bring them here. A barkingly high amount of woofsome walkies are available in the area surrounding Otterburn's dog-friendly Border Forest Caravan Park, for it has direct access from its bridge over the burn to the mighty Kielder Forest and the Pennine Way. Collar a stay here forthwith...

Its location and its amicable, quiet and family-friendly feel make Border Forest Caravan Park a popular place for Northumberland stays. Its amenities are cleanly kept and include ladies' and gents' showers with free hot water, plus toilets and washing-up facilities in the park's centre. (It's worth noting that from time to time during the summer months pesky midges make an appearance, so it's worth packing your repellents.)

As Border Forest is a quiet park, there's no shop or club on site, but a small supermarket is a short drive away. The local village Otterburn has a café, pubs, shops and a tourist information centre.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Tents are not accepted at this park.

Group bookings of 2 or more units (e.g. tent, touring caravan, motorhome or accommodation hire) travelling together are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Group bookings of 3 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Single-sex bookings of 3 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

This is a very quiet family-run park - there is no shop or club on site.

No single-sex parties or under-25s accepted via Pitchup.com.

The shower/toilet block at the top of the park (a three-minute walk from the touring pitches) is open all year round.

Lovely site. Great walking straight into forest with no need to go on to the roads.
Showers are clean with plentiful hot powerful water. Bliss after a good long walk.

Great location on the edge of the Kielder Forest. Lovely quiet site in a dark sky area. Dedicated dog walking field, as well as lots of longer walks accessible from the site. A great get-away-from-it-all location. Also with Vodafone there was a strong 4G signal. Lots of hot water in the washrooms and showers.

    Disliked:

Out of season, some of the main facilities were not open. This meant there was no dedicated sink and draining board for doing washing up.

    Disliked:

Womens toilet very dark at night. Paths unlit. Toilet near our pitch all closed till March. Felt little unsafe walking in darkness. On pitch up they say there's no WiFi so we didn't even try. On handing in fob on departure the WiFi and password are advertised on reception door.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review.
We are virtually in the centre,of the dark skies area,so have to keep lighting to a minimum.
The only internet we have is at reception and is very limited in area.
Cellular internet works here and has good connectivity on all main providers
Toilets and showers are about 150 meters from furthest pitch .

You were lucky it was freezing, which often gives clear skies and as we are situated in the middle of best dark skies in England, it makes you realise how insignificant we are!

The location is good. Very quiet, good walks and the gent running the campsite was nice.

    Disliked:

The pitches were far too close together, it was reasonably quiet when we visited but had it been full it would have been like staying on a car park. No map of the site and very vague instructions as y to I where things where when we arrived which resulted in us running around the site trying to find water and toilets and showers. The shower blocks were dated which we didn’t mind so much but the gents were freezing cold.

From the manager...

Most of our pitches have a river behind them and access road in front ,so have good amount of space.
We were full when you visited, I would have said, where the toilets were and pointed them out ,as they are quite near reception.
There was only a small radiator,in the gent’s showers
Plumber long awaited, ordered October, installed larger one on Valentine’s Day
