  • Dog-friendly park with direct access to Kielder Forest and Pennine Way
  • A 15-minute drive from Otterburn and 25 to Jedburgh
  • Well-kept amenities with plenty of free hot water
If you have a canine adventurer, prepare to bring them here. A barkingly high amount of woofsome walkies are available in the area surrounding Otterburn's dog-friendly Border Forest Caravan Park, for it has direct access from its bridge over the burn to the mighty Kielder Forest and the Pennine Way. Collar a stay here forthwith... Its location and its amicable, quiet and family-friendly feel make Border Forest Caravan Park a popular place for Northumberland stays. Its amenities are cleanly kept and include ladies' and gents' showers with free hot water, plus toilets and washing-up facilities in the park's centre. (It's worth noting that from time to time during the summer months pesky midges make an appearance, so it's worth packing your repellents.) As Border Forest is a quiet park, there's no shop or club on site, but a small supermarket is a short drive away. The local village Otterburn has a café, pubs, shops and a tourist information centre.

Liked: A rather disappointing site. The forest was desimated by a storm a couple of winters ago and so the forest was very patchy and regeneration is not happening so some areas are being replanted.
The Pennine Way passes the site which is it's main benefit.

Disliked: The site is old and very tired, it looks neglected. There are some signs of repair and upgrade but it just makes the rest appear even shabbier. Not enough to make my stay unpleasant.

From the manager: Possibly we were a Roman Army camp site , so obviously modernisation is out of the question, of course some sad people want Bath bought up to date in the Trump Tower way.
Here we try to fit in with nature ie buttercups for bees , etc.We are miles from shops , no clubs ,nearest pub four miles with the wind behind you.
If you want Kew Gardens go there, not here!
Luckily at my age I don’t have to take another tourer but as I like what I do and 9 and a half of our customers out of ten, are Happy decent people who I enjoy meeting, I will keep on in the Basil tradition !!

We had such a lovely welcome from Ali on our arrival...( felt like we had known her years)!!
You are obviously catering for wildlife and the environment...which is just amazing...
We spent ages in the extensive dog walking area...Such a variety of plants , newly planted trees and the recent ponds...such a haven for aquatic life..
We absolutely love your pigs!!!! They did enjoy a tickle behind their ears...

Liked: Lovely warm welcome, dogs were well catered for with lovely walks straight from the site and a dog field on the site itself. Kitchen area for washing up had microwave and kettle, EHU on all touring pitches.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: The site was so peaceful, it's ethos for dogs is exactly what we would want.
The scenery was gorgeous, loved looking out the window watching the birds in the stream.
So many walks, and unlike other sites who say they have a dog walking part, this has a huge dedicated well cared for dog walking section. We will be returning

Disliked: The shower block is outdated but has not put us off, it had a fab supply of hot water and good water pressure.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: The site is a wonderful place, set in the beautiful countryside of Northumberland, the owners are friendly and keep the site very clean, the pitches are spacious and level. A riverside walk into the forest is delightful, along part of the Pennine way.
It is peaceful and quiet. A lot of new work has been carried out on the dog walk area and when nature takes over it will only get even better.

Disliked: The toilet blocks need updating, they were clean, but the shower I used unfortunately only had cold water, that woke me up.

From the manager: Thank you for your review
Hot water is on constantly but it does take a while to come through, especially when we are not that busy. We will get signs made to illustrate this to prevent in the future!

Local attractions

Kielder Forest is indeed mighty: this is the biggest human-made woodland in England and covers 250 acres. Roe deer roam here, many an archaeological feature and Site of Special Scientific Interest can be found, and the forest is also home to Kielder Castle, piles of walking and cycling trails, and Kielder Observatory (this is top stargazing territory too). Also in the forest, mosey along to the reservoir Kielder Water and Leaplish Waterside Park to hire fishing and pleasure boats, hide in the red squirrel hide, walk on water or try other activities like archery, crossbows, sea scooters or gymnastics. Within easy driving distance of the site are famed Northumberland and Scottish Borders attractions like the budget-friendly Jedforest farm and animal park with native and exotic species and Mary Queen of Scots' House, both at Jedburgh 25 minutes away; Alnwick Castle and Hadrian's Wall (about an hour, and both also rather mighty); 19th-century Cragside House (45 minutes' drive), and the first-class Holy Island of Lindisfarne off the Northumberland coast (an hour and a half). Clay pigeon shooting is also available locally.
