Dakota our Mediterranean miniature donkey

General

  • Dog-friendly park with direct access to Kielder Forest and Pennine Way
  • Many animals including pigs and ponies to meet on site
  • Modern and well-kept amenities with free hot water

If you have a canine adventurer, prepare to bring them here. A barkingly high amount of woofsome walkies are available in the area surrounding Otterburn's dog-friendly Border Forest Caravan Park, for it has direct access from its bridge over the burn to the mighty Kielder Forest and the Pennine Way. Collar a stay here forthwith.

As you might reckon from a park so firmly animal friendly, quite a menagerie is on site too: come here to meet the three Kunekune pigs Rita, Bubble and Squeak; Bertie the Labradoodle and Marmite the Giant Schnauzer; Shetland ponies Ant and Dec (they're quite tiny); Dakota the donkey, and Blanche and her chick friends.

And as you also might reckon from all this, its location and its amicable, quiet and family-friendly feel, Border Forest Caravan Park is a popular place for Northumberland stays. Its amenities are cleanly kept and include modern ladies' and gents' showers with free hot water, and toilets, washing-up facilities and a fridge in the park's centre. It's worth noting that from time to time during the summer months pesky midges make an appearance so it's worth packing your repellants.

As Border Forest is a quiet park, there's no shop or club on site, but a small supermarket is a short drive away. Local village Otterburn has a café, pubs, shops and a tourist information centre.

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Just got back from our stay and all I can say is now much we both enjoyed it.. Even though the weather let us down the campl site didn't. We were met at the gate by a very helpful gentleman who explained where everything was. The site was very clean everything working properly. The showers were excellent. Even though we had rain once we got into the forest we were sheltered from it. Ted our spaniel loved it and since getting home all be has done is sleep.
