  • Dog-friendly park with direct access to Kielder Forest and Pennine Way
  • A 15-minute drive from Otterburn and 25 to Jedburgh
  • Well-kept amenities with plenty of free hot water
If you have a canine adventurer, prepare to bring them here. A barkingly high amount of woofsome walkies are available in the area surrounding Otterburn's dog-friendly Border Forest Caravan Park, for it has direct access from its bridge over the burn to the mighty Kielder Forest and the Pennine Way. Collar a stay here forthwith... Its location and its amicable, quiet and family-friendly feel make Border Forest Caravan Park a popular place for Northumberland stays. Its amenities are cleanly kept and include ladies' and gents' showers with free hot water, plus toilets and washing-up facilities in the park's centre. (It's worth noting that from time to time during the summer months pesky midges make an appearance, so it's worth packing your repellents.) As Border Forest is a quiet park, there's no shop or club on site, but a small supermarket is a short drive away. The local village Otterburn has a café, pubs, shops and a tourist information centre.

What customers say

This rural, peaceful campsite is highly praised for its stunning natural surroundings, abundant wildlife, dark skies, and excellent walking opportunities directly from the site. Guests highlight the friendly and helpful staff, spacious pitches, and superb dog-friendly facilities, including a large secure dog walking field and nearby river access. While some note that facilities are dated, they are generally found to be clean and well-maintained with good hot water. Its remote location means visitors should come prepared with supplies.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Location, people and pitches.

Disliked Unfortunately the showers and toilet block were a bit dark and dingy. Black and rusty drain gratings plus dark floor tiles did not make it an inviting experience.

From the manager: Thank you for your constructive review.
Funnily enough Ken who does the painting etc here and is a keen caravaner , said we need better lighting in the gents. Reluctantly it will be done, more expense!!
Drain grating is all black plastic

Overall a nice site and good stop of on the way to Scotland.

Liked The peace and quiet, the amazing area for dog walking and close to some lovely walks. The owners are very nice people and very friendly. We also enjoyed visiting their pet pigs with our dog.

Disliked Ladies facilities could have been better. The toilets were in the with showers so if someone is using a shower you can use the toilet.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Beautiful location and surroundings, easy access for forest walks.

Disliked No onsite entertainment, restaurant / bar.
Dogs have to be on lead whilst on site which we respect but not able to throw a ball from motorhome door 10m to vacant patch of grass.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Perfect for dog owners, the fully enclosed dog walk is actually more like a country park. Our Border Collie absolutely loved it.
Great location for walking, straight into Kielder Forest, generous pitches, quiet site, toilets/ showers adequate with plenty of hot water.
We will definitely stay again.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Lovely little site and perfectly positiioned for touring around Kielder for a weekend. Ideal site if you are looking to tour Kielder or hop over the Border. Checking in was quuck and simple and got the pick of any pitch we wanted, so picked a lovely little spot by the River.

Disliked Nothing to dislike about the site. Some may say the Shower block needs updated but it was clean and tidy and more than fit for purpose.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Good size pitch. Lovely views. Very quiet, we were there May mid week. Lovely staff. Clean facilities, plenty hot water. Smashing hairdryer free to use.

Disliked Facilities building was very cold, the weather at that time was very cold for May so I think they didn't expect to need the heating on. Facilities are at the opposite end to the touring pitches so a bit of a walk.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Lovely view of the river in front of the pitch (7) , loved watching the dippers ,wagtails, housemartins, sand martins etc. too many to name! The dog exercise area is amazing, best I’ve seen, loads of tadpoles in the pools. The lady who booked us in (sorry I didn’t get your name) was lovely, very friendly. Good walking in the area, the walk to the waterfall and the 3 kings stone circle were great. Really enjoyed our stay.

Local attractions

Kielder Forest is indeed mighty: this is the biggest human-made woodland in England and covers 250 acres. Roe deer roam here, many an archaeological feature and Site of Special Scientific Interest can be found, and the forest is also home to Kielder Castle, piles of walking and cycling trails, and Kielder Observatory (this is top stargazing territory too). Also in the forest, mosey along to the reservoir Kielder Water and Leaplish Waterside Park to hire fishing and pleasure boats, hide in the red squirrel hide, walk on water or try other activities like archery, crossbows, sea scooters or gymnastics. Within easy driving distance of the site are famed Northumberland and Scottish Borders attractions like the budget-friendly Jedforest farm and animal park with native and exotic species and Mary Queen of Scots' House, both at Jedburgh 25 minutes away; Alnwick Castle and Hadrian's Wall (about an hour, and both also rather mighty); 19th-century Cragside House (45 minutes' drive), and the first-class Holy Island of Lindisfarne off the Northumberland coast (an hour and a half). Clay pigeon shooting is also available locally.
