  • Spacious adults-only Yorkshire site with easy access from the A64
  • A 20-minute drive from central York and 45 minutes from the coast
  • Eco-friendly site with a nature trail and nest box webcams
Gorgeous North Yorkshire countryside all around, handy access to the A64 and York a mere 20 minutes’ drive down the road… there’s no denying Flaxton Meadows is in a very fine setting indeed. And it has a good mix of rural views too – this is a site that has farmland on one side and the wildlife-packed Strensall Common heathland on the other. And that means plenty of options for cyclists and walkers, whether you’re into strolling on local paths or tackling longer outings on the likes of the Ebor Way or Yorkshire Wolds Way. Don’t know where to start? The team on site are on hand to offer advice. As well as day trips to York, they also frequently recommend outings to Castle Howard and Scarborough. Being rather proud of their area, the owners here have put in a lot of effort to make their place eco friendly, kitting it out with renewable energy sources, establishing wildlife areas and using sustainable building materials where possible. A nature trail and educational boards help guests to get to know the area and nest-box webcams give everyone the chance to get a closer look at what’s rustling in the trees.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked The pitches are pretty level and lots of space for awnings etc.

Toilet/Shower block was very clean and plentiful.

Strensall Common is 40 minutes walk away and open to the public.

Disliked The site had no character, just felt like an open field, with a shower block.

A small amount of cattle grid and road noise close by.

Basic site for the money compared to others, and lots of notices up asking you to book direct and use cash, we found the site on “pitch up” and wouldn’t have found it advertised otherwise.

Check that the clubhouse is open, because if you want to relax with a pint or two, you may have to visit the local village of Strensall, which is approximately 10 minutes Uber ride and 4 miles away.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked We have been campers for many years, however we stayed at Flaxton Meadows for the first time last weekend with our new caravan. We have stayed on some lovely sites but this is one of our favourite pretty much the best site ever ! We absolutely loved everything. The site is perfect in every way. Calm, peaceful area with lots of areas to walk with our Spaniel. On arrival we were made to feel very welcome. Facilities are outstanding ! Always spotlessly clean all the time during our stay. Excellent quirky bar area that opened on an evening. Lovely peaceful atmosphere to relax and chat with friends or family. Outstanding pizzas enjoyed from the pizza van. Loved the fact they encouraged the use of CASH too !! This site is definitely a must to visit
I am sure we will return several times next year.

Fully-serviced hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Quiet site - beautiful location. The staff on site were helpful, knowledgeable and very welcoming. We enjoyed a pint or two in the bar and a nice walk around the locality.

It was nice to see that the menu at the pizza van had been extended and there was more variety which included jacket potatoes and burgers.

This is our 10th or 11th visit and it is just perfect to getaway and to recharge your batteries. Thanks again.

Local attractions

Starting your explores of the local area is as simple as wandering next door to Strensall Common, managed by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and with plenty of paths to wander along (some of them accessible to pushchairs and wheelchairs). York (20 minutes) is a must, of course – for history at the Jorvik Viking Centre, walks along the old walls and visits to the National Railway Museum. For more on the heritage front, next stops should certainly be Castle Howard (15 minutes), Nunnington Hall (25 minutes) and Rievaulx Abbey (35 minutes). There's a Go Ape adventure park at Dalby Forest (35 minutes) for an active day out. And there’s always the prospect of a trip to the coast at Filey (45 minutes) or Scarborough (50 minutes)… Can’t make your mind up? The team here has assembled a collection of podcasts to give you a flavour of some of the options and help you make your decisions.
