Why visit Flamborough

Superb scenery

One of the UK’s best-kept sightseeing secrets? We’d say so. This village in the East Riding of Yorkshire leads off to the fabulous Flamborough Head, a spectacular section of coastline overlooking bright white cliffs and rock formations carved out by the waves. Start off in the village for a spectacular stroll that loops around the headland and back.

Scenic beaches

As well as setting aside a few hours to saunter by the sea, factor in a little rockpooling time at North and South Landing beaches when staying at our Flamborough campsites. Kids love sifting through the seaweed and seeking out the caves here. Seals and peregrine falcons have been known to make an appearance – so keep your eyes peeled.

Danes Dyke

This prehistoric Scheduled Ancient Monument is an olden defensive landmark transformed into a 148-acre wooded nature reserve. Sitting behind the village, it’s part of the Flamborough Headland Heritage Coast. Visit for a peaceful wander through the trees and you might stumble across intriguing old artifacts – archaeologists have dug up Bronze Age arrowheads here in the past.

Puffins and gannets galore

Bempton Cliffs, an awe-inspiring destination whether you’re an avid birdwatcher or not, is just a 15-minute drive from our campsites in Flamborough. This RSPB-protected area is home to thousands of seabirds, from guillemots to gannets. It’s also one of the best places in the UK to see puffins (between late spring and throughout summer). Spot winged creatures from the many cliffside viewing platforms or sign up to one of the Seabird Cruises.

Bridlington Beach

For a busier bit of beach, circumvent your way around the coast to Bridlington. This resort’s sandy beaches, promenades and harbour make it a cheerful place to while away a few days. It’s got classic seaside vibes too: expect donkeys, amusement arcades and a fairground. The Old Town is worth touring as well. Time your visit to coincide with the Bridlington Dickensian Festival to witness residents dressed up in Victorian outfits.

The North York Moors

While you’re camping in Flamborough, it would be remiss not to check out what the rest of the North York Moors have to offer. Set off to Scarborough for the grand Victorian houses, elegant cliffside gardens and fab fairgrounds or find out why Whitby and its atmospheric abbey inspired Bram Stoker’s Dracula. You can also see the seals at Runswick then hop between cracking coastal villages like Robin Hood’s Bay and Staithes
