  • Well-maintained site on the outskirts of Hornsea, in East Yorkshire
  • Burton Agnes Hall 20 minutes’ drive; The Deep aquarium 40 minutes
  • Shower and toilet facilities; dogs welcome; barbecues allowed
The beaches of East Yorkshire and the long-distance Trans Pennine Trail are at your fingertips at Northorpe, a family- and dog-friendly site on the B1242 road, less than one mile from the coastal town of Hornsea. After parking right next to your pitch on a well-maintained tree-lined field, you can head to the seaside, which is a half-hour walk away if you want to swing into town to buy sunscreen and buckets and spades; shorter (about 10 minutes), if you cut through the fields. Popular for swimming and watersports, Hornsea Beach is skirted by a long promenade with family-friendly amusements like a paddling pool, the Jump Around Inflata-park and arcades. There’s also a lawn where you can stop for fish and chips. Those who are travelling without children might want to challenge themselves to hike (or cycle) along the Trans Pennine Trail (look for the marker on the promenade). You don’t have to go all the way to Southport, but with the right shoes (and the right attitude), you might make it to Hull in about four hours (one hour by bike); you can catch a train to return to the coast. Back at the site, you can shower and get ready for dinner. How does a barbecue sound? If you don’t fancy making your own meals, there are plenty of eateries and pubs serving food in Hornsea. The site also has a toilet block and a washing-up area.

What customers say

This campsite is praised for its friendly and helpful owners, clean facilities and excellent location close to Hornsea. Visitors enjoyed the level pitches, on-site wildlife including peacocks and chickens, and the secure, quiet atmosphere. However, some reviews mention insufficient toilet and shower facilities, low water pressure, and slippery shower floors. A few guests experienced noise issues and found some pitches muddy or uneven. The site is described as a work in progress with potential for improvement.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Great little site. Quiet and good value for money. Level pitch and Not far from hornsea.
Mains electricity was a small issue as kept tripping fuse box when using a kettle, tester in caravan showed only 1.2amps so had to use a gas kettle.
New toilet/shower block being built to replace old one.
Would stay again in future.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Nothing

Disliked Everything...noisy on going building work with heavy machinery being moved around constantly throughout the day even though we were promised work would stop after Friday for the Bank Holiday weekend it still continued.
Dirty toilets and showers no water pressure for hot water in the showers and full of dirt and cobwebs.
Dog poo bin was insufficient and was overflowing and poor organisation of recycling facilities meant rubbish was thrown in any bin and not separated
No site safety information was given and no information was available about the surrounding area.
There were overgrown weeds nettles and thistles all around the site
Mobile signal for internet was very poor and no onsite WiFi available

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Nice site. 30 minutes walk into Hornsea with variety of shops etc

Disliked Not a big pitch as the weather was wet it was straight from muddy grass into motorhome (weather not their fault)
Looked like they are upgrading facilities, with that in mind only one toilet/shower available. Elsan point needs attention i.e. needs a hose on tap. No dog walk.

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked The area

Disliked This is our second time here now and wow it’s gone downhill from our first stay everything was clean and peaceful on our first stay but this time they have all year round pitches and you can tell they site has one female toilet with your cubical the men’s has one cubical and the other was locked the whole time we was there and they was very very dirty compared to our first time staying it was a young lady that was doing the cleaning of them as she looked like she was staying on the site in a tent with her partner and dog and not to the showers there’s only two on site and the floors where very wet with no grip and shower curtains that looked they’d never been washed I was so disappointed and we arrived at same time as two other couples one that left with in two hours of setting up and we had loads of issues with electrical issues and when going to see some one no one was about

Electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked Location - very close to Hornsea

Disliked When we checked in, it wasn’t until we had paid the balance, that the owner informed us that there was a disco planned on the camping field for the Saturday night (apparently it happens every year) - we would not have booked if we had known that. The owner saw our kids (7 and 5) and said it will be winding down by 10.30 and they will just have to deal with it. My 5 year old had a panic attack at the volume of the music (luckily my in laws only live 30 minutes away so they decamped to there for the night but had to miss out on a night in the tent)

Also, one toilet for ladies and a few for men, water pressure was none existent and the showers were unsuitable - one scalding hot, the other freezing cold.

Pot wash area not suitable to wash anything of any size - it was a very shallow sink (luckily we had a large plastic box that had all our plates in so used that as a washing up bowl.

Local attractions

If you’ve ever wanted to handle a furry tarantula or an exotic snake, Bugtopia Hornsea Zoo (five minutes’ drive) might make your dreams come true. At this centre focusing on tropical creatures, you can also feed colourful macaws, and get up close and personal with insects and lizards. A masterpiece of Tudor architecture, Burton Agnes Hall (20 minutes) houses a collection of French Impressionist paintings, plus tapestries, furniture and ceramics. On a good day, though, you might prefer to hang in the grounds, which include a walled garden with thousands of plants and several gigantic games (snakes and ladders and chess among them). One of the highlights in the city of Hull (40 minutes) is The Deep, a vast aquarium in a striking angular building on the estuary of the Humber river. Residents here range from sharks and piranhas to penguins and turtles, plus tropical snakes and poison frogs.
