  • Small family-run holiday park in a Carnaby activity centre
  • A five-minute drive from the seaside town of Bridlington
  • Play areas and café serving meals and Sunday roasts
Park yourself here for a bunch of activities: Park Rose Caravans is in Park Rose Village, an activity and adventure centre in Carnaby, three miles from the seaside town of Bridlington. Bloomers of all ages have activities aplenty to ramble to: kids can roam around the outdoor mini town with school and mini jail for mini miscreants. However, they will probably be most eagle-eyed at the on-site Bridlington Birds of Prey and Animal Park, an award-winning centre with birds of prey including owls and falcons as well as other favourites like meerkats and alpacas. There are activities throughout the season including flying displays, falconry classes, small animal holding and donkey rides; you'll probably reckon the pig racing is a right hoot too… (Please note that the centre is owned and managed independently from the site and that there are admission charges.) Having a lie in after all that? The Park Rose café serves breakfast from 10am, and also has homemade cakes and scones, lunches and dinners, and succulent Sunday roasts. A shower block is also available.

Old Pottery electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: The location and the cafe staff were friendly.

Disliked: The play area was very run down and not as described so there wasn’t much for the children to do. Only one toilet and shower for allocated guests so had to queue and feet wasn’t kept clean.

Old Pottery electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Nothing

Disliked: Decided not to stay. Piles of rubbish everywhere. Most caravans have been there years and are lived in all the time. Totally concrete pitch so couldn’t put awning out. Had to buy a 50p token to even have a shower

Old Pottery electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Really nice clean park, I was feeding the peacocks which I loved. I only used 1 of the showers each time, it was clean, tidy and there is a heater, “press that button”, £1 token to have 5 mins of shower which isn’t long, so you have to be ready to get straight in in the shower before you put the token in, my first shower I didn’t realise and I had to finish my hair in the sink. I wanted to clean the shower after myself, but once your time is up the water shuts off, so could do with a mop, the shower I went into is about the same size as a double bedroom, bit of a waste of the building, you could easily get a pot wash room in there as well. Pot wash area is horrid, the sinks have been cladded in wood, so it’s warped, the dish draining area had been tiled and the wood has warped underneath and popped the tiles up. Everyone that works on the site needs to smile, the people that visit are on holiday, so add to the holiday experience by smiling. The phone signal is patchy, so if you’re addicted to the net, you need to be near the cafe to get the WiFi, possibly need an internet boost.. could do with some hedges for privacy along the fence lines. The animal park was brilliant, it looks like some of the animals have bugs or mites, very itchy, there is a black swan chick, that doesn’t look to healthy.

Disliked: Pot wash area, WiFi needs boosting, privacy hedges, staff need to smile

Old Pottery electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: Nothing

Disliked: Wasn’t even a pitch it looked like a concrete parking lot. The toilets and showers were disgusting and needed updating. It said 50p for a shower token and we were charged £1 for them. The outlook we had was of a caravan with all their mess just chucked outside. Paid for 2 nights but only stayed the one.

Old Pottery electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: The peacocks around the place

Disliked: Toilets awful, require modernising and really old and cold, not clean. We wasn't on an actual pitch we got put on a static pitch with no grass either side, we went and looked at the actual pitches and found them all used by people who look like that they are full timers. We had just mud either side and couldn't use the awning because of this. Pete the manger was decent, sorted what we needed as a minimum.

Old Pottery electric hardstanding and grass touring pitch

Liked: We loved that there was easy access to the Bridlington Animal Park and seeing the peacocks walking around site was great. Staff were accommodating when we needed them.

Disliked: We were originally given a pitch which was not within a safe and legal distance of other caravans. It was more like a passing bay or car park space. When I brought this to their attention, we were given another option. It’s a small site and seems like most of the pitches are full time residents.

Local attractions

Go coastwards to Bridlington and its Bempton Cliffs RSPB reserve with over 200,000 chattering seabirds or have a more serene time sampling the town’s famous shellfish; get gothic in Whitby or amuse yourself at the funfair in Filey, where there’s another bird garden and animal park if the one at Park Rose has given the kids the beasties bug. For beachcombers, the main beach at Bridlington also has a land train, the Bridlington Eye and waxworks at the Beside The Seaside Experience Museum; the quieter Fraisthorpe Beach, to the south of Bridlington, is dog-friendly all year round. Head inland from here for the North York Moors, one of the biggest stretches of heather moorland in the country: explore by bike, on foot or from the North York Moors Railway which puffs through 18 miles of spectacular scenery. For kid-friendly fare, Bridlington and the surrounding areas are well-placed for family days out, with beaches, play centres and farms among more; take a trip to Dalby Forest for the day for some orienteering or swinging among the trees at Go Ape. Theme parks in the area include the knuckle-clenching rides and extensive zoo at Malton’s Flamingo Land, swashbuckling and raptor attacks at Ripon’s Lightwater Valley, and more birds of prey at Thirsk’s Sion Hill Hall.
