Beautiful day at the campsite

General

  • Small family-run holiday park in a Carnaby activity centre
  • Three miles from Bridlington
  • Mini town, F1 racing track and café serving meals and Sunday roasts

Park yourself here for a bunch of fun: Park Rose Caravans is a small and friendly family-run centre in Carnaby, three miles from the seaside town of Bridlington.

The park is in an activity village, centred around a café serving breakfast all day as well as homemade cakes and scones, lunches, dinners and Sunday roasts. Elsewhere, there's plenty of stuff to get stuck into: kids can roam around the outdoor mini village; nautical enthusiasts can take a turn on the Boats Bumper Lake in summer (weather permitting). The village is also home to a bargain outlet.

But the kids will probably be most eagle eyed at the on-site Bridlington Birds of Prey and Animal Park, an award-winning centre with birds of prey including owls and falcons as well as other favourites like meerkats and alpacas. There are activities throughout the season including flying displays, falconry classes, small animal holding and donkey rides; you'll probably reckon the pig racing is a right hoot. (Please note that the centre is owned and managed independently from the site and that there are admission charges.)

A shower block is also available, and the park has now added new lighting between the caravan park and the toilets.

Please note

Dogs are not allowed in the on-site accommodations.

Group bookings of 5 or more adults are not permitted (couples and immediate family members excepted).

When arriving, please check in at the café. The café is open every day from 10am until 4pm.

Single-sex groups of 5 or more people are not accepted via Pitchup.com.

Shower tokens are only sold at the café: one token (50p) gives five minutes of hot water.

Small quiet site, facilities were sufficient for our needs.

    Disliked:

Need for 50p tokens for nearest showers. I understand the need to keep "vagrants" from using the facilities, but either give free tokens (as use of other free showers is permitted, using coded access) or an access key.

    Disliked:

Shower token system meant it cost £1 for a 10 minute shower.
Not much to do on site for kids.
Peacocks were noisy in the morning.

Booked this site without reading the reviews and only looked after I paid (rookie mistake, I know!) I was skeptical about going as they were mostly negative, however when we arrived we were shown to our pitch and the man explained how everything worked. The toilets are very basic, not the cleanest but also not the worst I’ve been in but you’re camping, it’s supposed to be basic!
We didn’t use the showers as we had own our but had a nosey in there, again basic but not the worst.
The site was really quiet and it was nice to see the peacocks roaming around although they were very loud all day and night, which you can understand some people won’t like.
The on-site animal park is really good! We got to feed and stroke the animals, my little boy loved it.
Also liked how close it is to Brid and surrounding areas.
If you’re looking for luxury or amazing quality, this is not the site. However, for a basic campsite this is perfect.

    Disliked:

The cafe only opened at 10am so not good for us for breakfast as we’re early birds but we either just made our own or drove off site for it, however it looked clean and the food looked tasty and reasonably priced.

Local attractions

Go coastwards to reach Bridlington and its Bempton Cliffs RSPB reserve with over 200,000 chattering seabirds or have a more serene time sampling the town’s famous shellfish; get gothic in Whitby or amuse yourself at the funfair in Filey, where there’s another bird garden and animal park if the one at Park Rose has given the kids the beasties bug.

For beachcombers, the main beach at Bridlington also has a land train, the Bridlington Eye and waxworks at the Beside The Seaside Experience Museum; the quieter Fraisthorpe Beach lies to the south of Bridlington and is dog-friendly all year round.

A few more miles along the coast lies North Yorkshire’s seaside capital Scarborough, where it’s not all seaside amusements and kiss-me-quick hats: there’s the Rotunda Museum for geology rockers, Britain’s last remaining seaside orchestra and the biggest open-air theatre in Europe for music gigs.

Head inland from here for the North York Moors, one of the biggest stretches of heather moorland in the country: explore by bike, on foot or from the North York Moors Railway which puffs through 18 miles of spectacular scenery. The market town of Pickering is on the line and is worth a stop for a potter around the thirteenth century Pickering Castle, or get off at Goathland for a hike around Heartbeat country.

The historic city of York is around an hour’s drive from Bridlington and is crammed with things to do for all ages: the biggest Gothic cathedral in northern Europe and the former prison site at York Castle Museum are two must-sees, or take it easy and have an amble around the medieval city walls. Historical highlights closer to home include the Elizabethan Burton Agnes Hall, ‘the perfect English house’, and Bridlington’s Sewerby Hall and Gardens with its zoo, woodland walks and land trains running along the cliff top to Limekiln Lane.

Feeling arty? Follow the Hockney Trail of Bridlington artist David Hockney, which covers the inspiration for over twenty of his pieces from Warter and through the Yorkshire Wolds to Bridlington. There’s an art gallery in the Spa Royal Hall in the town as well as a couple of private galleries if this inspires you to buy your own piece, with public art galleries also at Scarborough, York and Harrogate.

For kid-friendly fare, Bridlington and the surrounding areas are well-placed for family days out, with beaches, play centres and farms among more; take a trip to Dalby Forest for the day for some orienteering or swinging among the trees at Go Ape! Theme parks in the area include the knuckle-clenching rides and extensive zoo at Malton’s Flamingo Land, swashbuckling and raptor attacks at Ripon’s Lightwater Valley, and more birds of prey at Thirsk’s Sion Hill Hall.
