The view from the park

General

  • Family park close to the Durham coastline, with sea and beach views
  • Smart facilities including a pool, sports court and bar-restaurant
  • A 25-minute drive from Durham and 40 from Newcastle city centre

A pebble’s propulsion from golden sand dunes, with a perfect view of the blue-green ocean as far as the eye can see... Crimdon Dene Holiday Park's an excellent spot for discovering the splendour of the little-known stretch of coastline known as the Durham Heritage Coast.

Getting out onto the nearest stretch of sand is a cinch from here, as Crimdon beach is a short walk away; the site's also well placed for mini safaris in the local nature reserves, strolls on the coast path and games of golf with cracking clifftop views.

Certain guests may decree the North Sea to be just a tad too chilly for a full-on swim; those folk will be pleased to hear that there's warmer water at the indoor pool back at the park, and even warmer still in the Jacuzzi next to it. An outdoor sports court and playground are on hand for those who require a bit of space to run about, and an amusement arcade for those who'd like to invest their pocket money in games of skill, luck and concentration. Fuel all this activity with meals and drinks at the spacious bar-restaurant or hot drinks from the coffee bar.

As a family park, Crimdon Dene has a good range of daytime activities, kids' clubs and so forth, and in high season, there’s also plenty of evening action in the form of live music and shows (at other times, you’ll find a more toned-down entertainment schedule).

Please note

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

No cars/motorbikes by the pitch/unit. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

Single-sex parties of 3 or more people under 25 are not permitted on site.

Swimming pool access is included: please show your entertainment pass.

Entertainment passes are included in the rate.

Welcome from the chap that sited us, main reception dismissive as we were tourers.potch had a lovely view.

    Disliked:

Pitches too close together. We got the impression that tourers were poor relations to statics. Toilets and laundry in dire need of refurb. Although ramp to toilet block the code pad was very high would be difficult for anyone in wheelchair. No enforcement of basic rules, what appeared to be permanent residents driving dangerously on the park and motorbikes which are forbidden were frequently observed.
All in all although we had a lovely view it was marred by the feel of the site and we couldn't even take photographs of our view without being aggressively challenged by anyone in the vicinity of our pitch to show we were not taking photos of them or their static! Needless to say of the two nights we booked we only stayed one, and will not be returning.

Nice beach, ststic csravan area looked nice

    Disliked:

Touring pitches are extremely small with about 1.5x car width between pitches. Felt very cramped and noisy. Quite a bit of rubbish around. Mens toilets were very very smelly and showed no signs of being cleaned during our 1night stay. 10am checkout is mean, though you can pay extra for a late check out

Stunning sea view, location of touring pitches. Well maintained toilets, showers & entertainment complex close by. Food in the restaurant was very nice. We really enjoyed our holiday despite a couple of negative points, exploring a coastline we were not aware of, highly recommended.

    Disliked:

Life guards not paying attention to swimmers in the indoor pool (too busy chatting to girls around the pool) One rude member of bar staff at the Halloween party (blonde female) who put ice in my sons Pepsi without asking if we'd like ice. When I mentioned my son would not drink it with ice in she stated she could not take it out. I had to strongly insist as it was important & unfortunately it tainted our enjoyment of the night (my son has autism & sensitive teeth)

    Enjoyed out time here.
we visited the bar/restaurant which was nice, just avoid sitting near the fire exit as people are in and out to smoke.
We didn't use the entertainment or swimming pool but looked good.
We did use the showers which were nice and hot, could of done with a seating area with in cubicle as all the floor got wet.
The warden was more than helpful. Would definitely recommend and would return if visiting Hartlepool .

Local attractions

Ramble or ride along the coastal path to get the best views of the ruggedly dramatic Durham Heritage Coast, or head inland to explore ancient woodlands such as Castle Eden Dene (15 minutes' drive), a 550-acre nature reserve with more than 450 types of flora and 12 miles of footpaths.

In nearby Hartlepool (10 minutes), guests can tour HMS Trincomalee, the oldest warship still afloat in the UK, along with lots of other interesting stuff at the Maritime Experience on the historic quayside.

Other popular attractions include the Tweddle Children’s Animal Farm, a 15-minute walk away (perhaps a little longer if you're marshalling small people), or the fascinating living history museum at Beamish (40 minutes' drive), where kids can don hard hats for trips down the mine, ride an old tramway and get stuck into lots of dressing up and activities.

It’s also well worth a trip to Durham (25 minutes), where you can stroll along the river banks for stunning views of the ancient cathedral and castle; or to Newcastle (40 minutes), which is crammed with culture and commerce.
