  • Family park close to the Durham coastline, with sea and beach views
  • Smart facilities including a pool, sports court and bar-restaurant
  • A 25-minute drive from Durham and 40 from Newcastle city centre
A pebble’s propulsion from golden sand dunes, with a perfect view of the blue-green ocean as far as the eye can see… Crimdon Dene Holiday Park is an excellent spot for discovering the splendour of the little-known stretch of coastline known as the Durham Heritage Coast. Getting out onto the nearest stretch of sand is a cinch from here, as Crimdon beach is a short walk away; the site's also well placed for mini safaris in the local nature reserves, strolls on the coast path and games of golf with cracking clifftop views. Certain guests may decree the North Sea to be just a tad too chilly for a full-on swim; those folk will be pleased to hear that there's warmer water at the indoor pool back at the park, and even warmer still in the Jacuzzi next to it. An outdoor sports court and playground are on hand for those who require a bit of space to run about, and an amusement arcade for those who'd like to invest their pocket money in games of skill, luck and concentration. Fuel all this activity with meals and drinks at the spacious bar-restaurant or hot drinks from the coffee bar. As a family park, Crimdon Dene has a good range of daytime activities, kids' clubs and so forth, and in high season, there’s also plenty of evening action in the form of live music and shows (at other times, you’ll find a more toned-down entertainment schedule).

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Being close to the beach. Toilets and showers were clean. Good shop onsite.

Disliked: No one to check us in waited 45 minutes, the helpline number on their website said refer to the emergency number on your welcome pack - we couldn’t get a welcome pack without someone being there to check us in! Poor hard standing only just fit in caravan and car on a gravel/muddy bit of area outside the caravan. Very overpriced food and drink in the boathouse and wasn’t the best. Everywhere there seemed a bit dirty. Music went on until near midnight we could hear it absolutely bouncing in our caravan and we just wanted a quiet weekend away dog walking. Couldn’t stand another night of being kept awake at that time so we came home a night early! Children ran around all over with no an adult in sight in the grounds which wouldn’t bother me as long as they didn’t keep running right up besides our pitch between the caravan and car with balls hitting the car.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Was good value for money, decent on site entertainment and the food was excellent! All the staff we encountered were very friendly! Access to the beach nearby was easy and defo made coming to This park more enjoyable!

Disliked: Shower-block’s needed a bit better upkeep, two of the toilet seats were broken, but generally fairly clean. The toilets in the entertain area however were in a constant state, Often finding myself going back to the shower blocks rather than the ones in the entertainment block!

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Location is really handy for Hartlepool. We had a nice view from a sloping pitch. The site is well spaced out with a range of statics and a touring field.

Disliked: Toilets were abysmal, arrived on Thursday and every toilet was full of faeces, no toilet paper and rubbish everywhere. Things didn't improve over the weekend and we only saw a cleaner once over 3 days. We spoke to staff but nothing was done, we stopped using the toilets . There was a constant smell of weed over the touring site as well. This is a decent site but the touring facilities need investment and maintenance. Probably won't return purely on the terrible toilet facilities

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: The view and the beach, as the whole reason why we booked the area they didn’t disappoint. It helped that we had some amazing weather to enjoy them fully, Finding the site was straightforward and easy to navigate. The staff we met were all friendly and mostly polite however it was very busy so some stress was showing with some people reaction's. There is a little chippy van near the shop which was nice a good value, the ’restaurant’ is not as good. There is 3 parks to choose from, including the one in the complex area, an arcade area, pool and entertainment although we chose not to use the entertainment this time.

Disliked: The pitching area has a large curb , some areas this is dropped but that leaves some curb edges sticking out and making some areas really difficult to get in, the pitch we were supposed be using had a lamppost in the middle blocking the caravan, one next door was free and we were able to swap. The toilets weren’t clean, in all fairness that is mostly on the campers however they need staff to clean them more frequently It was very loud until about 12.30am, partying in the vans with loud music and shouting. But again this isn’t necessarily the sites fault, we were given a list of rules on arrival that said quite from midnight and there was security around to help

From the manager: Hi Emma, thanks for taking the time to leave your review. We're pleased you enjoyed your recent stay, there's really nothing better than waking up to a lovely view alongside your cup of tea in the morning. I will share your comments regarding the facilities with our Touring Manager and ask that they investigate this further, as well as implementing additional cleaning checks. We're also sorry to hear you were kept awake by other guests on park, we do have a quiet policy on park that guests should be respectful of others and start to lower any noise after 10pm, so it's disappointing to hear that this wasn't your experience on this occasion. We hope to see you again soon. ^AB

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: The location is very nice and you can get to the beach quickly.

Disliked: Where should I start? The pitches are very close together. The sanitary facilities were cleaned maybe once in the two days. There were cigarettes and other rubbish everywhere on our pitch. The later the worse it got. The restaurant is completely overpriced and there wasn't a single table outside that was clean. There is also a lot of security. Unfortunately, this also seems necessary, as the clientele on this campsite don't know anything like decency! Best to drive on! We'll certainly never come here again!

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Nothing to say.

Disliked: The touring pitch I was given was not suitable for my caravan. Although there was a dropped kerb my car and caravan bottomed out when trying to put caravan in place. I went to reception to see if they could change it but there was a queue of people and only one staff member so I left and went to another site.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked: Nothing absolutely shocking site was full of gypsies and their children running through other people's pitches shouting and screaming swearing toilets and showers were disgusting

Disliked: It was the worst site I have ever been on and I have been to lots of different parkdean locations but this is really bad I was going to ask for my money back but I knew I wouldn't get a refund as I paid without the cancellation fee

Local attractions

Ramble or ride along the coastal path to get the best views of the ruggedly dramatic Durham Heritage Coast, or head inland to explore ancient woodlands such as Castle Eden Dene (15 minutes' drive), a 550-acre nature reserve with more than 450 types of flora and 12 miles of footpaths. In nearby Hartlepool (10 minutes), guests can tour HMS Trincomalee, the oldest warship still afloat in the UK, along with lots of other interesting stuff at the Maritime Experience on the historic quayside. Other popular attractions include the Tweddle Children’s Animal Farm, a 15-minute walk away (perhaps a little longer if you're marshalling small people), or the fascinating living history museum at Beamish (40 minutes' drive), where kids can don hard hats for trips down the mine, ride an old tramway and get stuck into lots of dressing up and activities. It’s also well worth a trip to Durham (25 minutes), where you can stroll along the river banks for stunning views of the ancient cathedral and castle; or to Newcastle (40 minutes), which is crammed with culture and commerce.
