  • Family park close to the Durham coastline, with sea and beach views
  • Smart facilities including a pool, sports court and bar-restaurant
  • A 25-minute drive from Durham and 40 from Newcastle city centre
A pebble’s propulsion from golden sand dunes, with a perfect view of the blue-green ocean as far as the eye can see… Crimdon Dene Holiday Park is an excellent spot for discovering the splendour of the little-known stretch of coastline known as the Durham Heritage Coast. Getting out onto the nearest stretch of sand is a cinch from here, as Crimdon beach is a short walk away; the site's also well placed for mini safaris in the local nature reserves, strolls on the coast path and games of golf with cracking clifftop views. Certain guests may decree the North Sea to be just a tad too chilly for a full-on swim; those folk will be pleased to hear that there's warmer water at the indoor pool back at the park, and even warmer still in the Jacuzzi next to it. An outdoor sports court and playground are on hand for those who require a bit of space to run about, and an amusement arcade for those who'd like to invest their pocket money in games of skill, luck and concentration. Fuel all this activity with meals and drinks at the spacious bar-restaurant or hot drinks from the coffee bar. As a family park, Crimdon Dene has a good range of daytime activities, kids' clubs and so forth, and in high season, there’s also plenty of evening action in the form of live music and shows (at other times, you’ll find a more toned-down entertainment schedule).

What customers say

This park offers a great location close to the beach with lovely sea views. Staff are frequently praised for being friendly and helpful, and facilities like toilets and showers are generally described as clean. Families appreciate the on-site entertainment and numerous activities for children. However, some visitors found the touring area and facilities to be in need of maintenance, citing issues with cleanliness and pitch accessibility. Noise from other guests and overpriced food were also noted concerns.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked The views of the ocean

Disliked Where to start!
Originally we were due to arrive on the Sunday but having spoken to parkdean I arranged an extra night and arrived on the Saturday.....i can honestly say I wish I hadn't bothered! I should have known what i was in for given the police were there 2 days in a row!
The spaces for the tourer are so small you can almost hear your neighbours conversations. The toilets and shower blocks were some of the worst I have ever seen and ive been to festivals! One of the ladies toilets was covered in vomit, another covered in poo. It was absolutely disgusting. It comes to something when your husband takes our 5 year old to the men's toilets and the 5 year old says oh look daddy someone actually flushed the toilet this time!
The touring site is right next to the entertainment centre so you can hear the music and things from there which isn't bad but when it comes to chucking out time you have all the revellers stumbling shouting and screaming past your van.
Now how do I describe the people also touring here? I actually think some of them have set up a permanent pitch here given the amount of things they have with them. Only way to describe them is loud mouth chavs and feral kids! You have the kids running riot at all hours, flying around on Electric scooters and bikes which stated in the park rules are prohibited but no one stops them. You have footballs being pelted off your caravan covered in dog poo almost putting your windows out and all the while the parents are sat in groups drinking and smoking weed with not a care in the world.
The touring site is covered in dog poo. Dogs running loose all over the place which again it states in the park rules that all dogs should be kept on a lead but again no one is enforcing this. When you arrive your given a copy of the site rules but there is no contact details for secrutiy or anything so should you need to report anything you have to walk to reception at the front of the park.
There is no one checking cars ect coming in and out of the park so anyone can turn up even if they're not staying here which to me is a massive security risk especially at night given that it is absolutely pitch black on the touring site as there is hardly any lighting in the area.
It seems no one sticks to speed limits either when they're driving around. How someone hasn't been knocked over is beyond me.
The play area on the touring site is over run with teenagers sitting on top of the equipment not allowing other kids to use it.
The boathouse bar is pricey which is to be expected and it takes a long time to get served. Again the play area here is over run with feral kids that are too big for the play area climbing all over it whilst their parents sit and watch them doing it not even attempting to parent them and allow the smaller kids a chance to play without being hurt.
This site has the potential to be something really great. All the staff I have spoken to this week were really lovely but it seems like no one is taking accountability/ authority so it's a free for all for the disruptive disrespecting chavs and the feral kids.
I would highly recommend people stay away from here. You can go to your local council estate and park up there for the same experience without the price!

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Close to beach (ish)

Disliked Where to start… when we arrived we were given a touring space to park. Found the space, very tight for a camper van to get down the road and back into space. Managed to park up, no electricity at pitch on all 4 electric hookups! Had to move spaces which wasnt bad for us as we chose a space further away from the “entertainment”.

After moving, we visited the toilet blocks and it was by far the worst we have ever visited. The mens toilets were a shocking condition, the cubicles had vomit and diarrhoea all over the toilets and floor!

The touring part was eventful to say the least. There appeared to be some “travellers” who had been settled for some time who took over a section of the site. Cars speeding and revving which wasn't pleasant. The park for kids on the touring section was poor and ruled by kids/teens who were rude and swearing, again not great for young kids and personally our kid didnt want to go to this park due to the above. The park at the back of the bar was much better.

The whole site had a very strong smell of marijuana, again far from ideal for most people! Security walked past people smoking this and not a word was said! I dont believe in a public place such as entertainment entrances, by the food van, outside shop, on a kids park etc this should have gone un-noticed/ignored by staff.

Awful site, would not revisit. I can not imagine any reason why anyone would choose to visit this site

From the manager: Good evening,

Thank you for your detailed feedback.

We are truly sorry to hear that your experience was so disappointing, especially as you’ve enjoyed stays with Park Dean in the past. Your comments regarding the condition of the toilets, the issues with the electric hookups, and the behavior of other guests are concerning, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this caused you and your family.

We take cleanliness and safety very seriously, and we will be addressing the issues you raised with both our maintenance and security teams to ensure improvements are made. We also understand your concerns about the behavior of some guests and the unpleasant atmosphere in certain areas of the park. This is certainly not the experience we want for our visitors, and we will be reviewing this with our team to ensure a more family-friendly environment going forward.

We’re sorry we didn’t meet your expectations during this visit, and we truly hope you will reconsider staying with us again in the future. Your feedback is valuable, and we will use it to improve the quality of our site for future guests.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Friendly staff, site has plenty of activities for children at an extra cost. Toilet block was clean with everything you would need, could do with modernising.
Site has plenty of walks, we found Crimdon Dene Nature Reserve right next to the site, our dogs had a great time. Site is on entrance to the beach with the most beautiful dunes. Swimming pool is warm and staff welcoming. Best part for myself was the early morning dog walks.
We did not try the wifi.

Disliked Expensive to dine in restaurant.
Pitches are very close to others, lacking privacy.
Laundering room floor was filthy dirty.
We went during Easter holidays, the camp site had a strong smell of cannabis. Very busy site, expect to queue for everything.
Bingo is at a cost of £20.

Your early morning walks with your dog sound absolutely idyllic, and I hope you were able to enjoy some truly beautiful sunrises during your time here. We are genuinely sorry to hear that not every aspect of your stay met your expectations. This is disappointing for us as we strive to provide the best possible experience for all our guests.

Liked Price is good and facilities are decent too.

Disliked The touring site has a lot of 'travellers' that seem to be set up for a long while. My children felt very intimidated by their children and refused to go out and play.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked -A lot of facilities for kids (if you can access them)
- Staff were friendly

Disliked Touring pitch was poor, was waterlogged on the hard standing and the surrounding grass was churned up and very muddy. Very rowdy site, entertainment on the night time was chaotic, wasn’t expecting security on the door for the kids disco and drinks were expensive. Was woken up at 0200 by people attempting to fight each other outside our van. As the touring pitches are right next to the entertainment area it’s very loud at kicking out time approx 2230.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Liked Great location, efficient check in, well maintained facilities, friendly staff, good entertainment programme.

Disliked Pitch was not easy to find in the dark - lighting would have helped. Touring was next to the entertainment hub - so it was noisy at night. It is a very busy site so there were lots of people around.

Electric hardstanding touring pitch

Local attractions

Ramble or ride along the coastal path to get the best views of the ruggedly dramatic Durham Heritage Coast, or head inland to explore ancient woodlands such as Castle Eden Dene (15 minutes' drive), a 550-acre nature reserve with more than 450 types of flora and 12 miles of footpaths. In nearby Hartlepool (10 minutes), guests can tour HMS Trincomalee, the oldest warship still afloat in the UK, along with lots of other interesting stuff at the Maritime Experience on the historic quayside. Other popular attractions include the Tweddle Children’s Animal Farm, a 15-minute walk away (perhaps a little longer if you're marshalling small people), or the fascinating living history museum at Beamish (40 minutes' drive), where kids can don hard hats for trips down the mine, ride an old tramway and get stuck into lots of dressing up and activities. It’s also well worth a trip to Durham (25 minutes), where you can stroll along the river banks for stunning views of the ancient cathedral and castle; or to Newcastle (40 minutes), which is crammed with culture and commerce.
