Around the grounds

General

  • Peaceful family-run site a short stroll from the Great Ouse river
  • Canoe and small craft launch, fishing and play park
  • Acclaimed and dog-friendly gastropub within 150 metres

Pitch up near the river and launch your canoe with ease at this small, secluded, friendly and well-maintained green site in Cambridgeshire countryside… or dangle a rod into the water for a spot of (free) coarse fishing, or keep a lazy eye on the offspring at the play park while you lounge about in this scenic setting… all up for easy grabs at Willows Park and Marina near Huntingdon and a short stroll from the Great Ouse river.

All pitches are on grass, some under the handsome willow trees. Both areas have easy access to the well-maintained and heated bathroom block with toilets, showers, a big disabled-access bathroom, a laundry room and washing-up areas.

There's plenty of room around the site and along the river for wanders; if your feet want to take you further, you can hook up with the Ouse Valley Way from Brampton or Huntingdon (or both; The Willows lies between the two). There's more coarse fishing too at the lake 750 metres away, you can hire boats a couple of miles away, and the watersports and events of Grafham Water are within 20 minutes' drive.

Barbecues are allowed on site, but you might, sensibly, opt to sup and sip instead at the neighbouring Brampton Mill gastropub by the river a minute's walk away: it's dog friendly here too.

Handy location (still in Tier 3 thankfully), with gravel pitch, hook-up and facilities block with hot electric showers. Also one of the friendliest welcomed this year...despite dark and rain.

    Disliked:

Some might be bothered by sound from east coast mainline, but no bother for a convenient winter stopover.

Like many people Covid-19 ruined our plans to go to Belfast so we choose a caravan site not to far from home to spend a few days relaxing and enjoying a part of our county we had not really explored.
So glad we did as the site was lovely and the wardens who are husband and wife were so friendly and helpful, they keep the place immaculate including the toilet and shower blocks. There had been a lot of rain before (and during) our visit so to protect us from not having to get bogged down on the grass we were all parked up on the gravel roadway, plenty of room to park both sides and saved us dragging a lot of wet grass and mud into our caravan.
Plenty of electric hook up points (10amp) and water close by, elsan point and waste disposal near the shower block. Good facilities in the shower block with 2 showers in the men’s and ladies, there is also a washing machine and dryer (didn’t use so not sure of cost).
Plenty of walks around about with Hinchingbrooke Country Park just across the road.
There is also a really nice pub/restaurant called The Brampton Mill, we had 2 excellent meals there, all very Covid-19 safe. The best thing was it was about a 2 minute stroll from the caravan park!
Lovely site, great wardens, lots of nice walks. Easy access to the site, quiet and peaceful.
    We would definitely recommend.

Local attractions

The Willows is a 10-minute walk – or five minutes by bus – from its closest village of Brampton, where there are another two recommended foodie and dog-friendly pubs, the Black Bull and the Dragoon. Brampton's also the place to hail Captain Tim's river ferry to Godmanchester and back; this is dog friendly too.

For watery sports, there's a sailing club and a watersports centre at Grafham Water, alongside a good-size centre that also includes outdoor playgrounds, Segway hire, a 10-mile circular cycle track (and bike hire), and trout and coarse fishing. The centre's 200-acre nature reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest runs regular activities and events.

Also recommended by owners Nigel and Hayley are Hinchingbrooke House and country park, a few hundred metres away, Pepys House at Brompton and the Cromwell Museum at Huntingdon (both within a couple of miles), and seeing the bird of prey displays at the Raptor Foundation, 20 minutes' drive away at Woodhurst.
