Play park

General

  • Peaceful family-run site a short stroll from the Great Ouse river
  • Canoe and small craft launch, fishing and play park
  • Acclaimed and dog-friendly gastropub within 150 metres

Pitch up near the river and launch your canoe with ease at this small, secluded, friendly and well-maintained green site in Cambridgeshire countryside... or dangle a rod into the water for a spot of (free) coarse fishing, or keep a lazy eye on the offspring at the play park while you lounge about in this scenic setting... all up for easy grabs at Willows Park and Marina near Huntingdon and a short stroll from the Great Ouse river.

All pitches are grass, some under the handsome willow trees. Both areas have easy access to the well-maintained and heated amenity block with toilets, showers, a big disabled-access bathroom, a laundry room and washing-up areas.

There's plenty of room around the site and along the river for wanders; if your feet want to take you further, you can hook up with the Ouse Valley Way from Brampton or Huntingdon (or both; The Willows lies between the two). There's more coarse fishing too at the lake 750 metres away, you can hire boats a couple of miles away, and the watersports and events of Grafham Water are within 20 minutes' drive.

Barbecues are allowed on site, but you might, sensibly, opt to sup and sip instead at the neighbouring Brampton Mill gastropub by the river a minute's walk away: it's dog friendly here too.

Thank you very much for your review. We are glad you enjoyed yourselves and actually saw the seal! He likes to use the river outside the pub like a bath tub. Kind Regards, Paul & Kirsty

    Clean and tidy site

    Disliked:

The friendliness although dog friendly we felt they weren’t really catered for ie dog waste disposal

From the manager...

Thank you for your review if i could add a few things.
We are dog friendly , but dont have dog waste disposal bins ,as they would have to be placed next to someones unit , and make a smell and attract flies, as such dog waste is placed directly by the dog owners , into the general waste bins .
I did not think you would recommend us or return , because you were walking past us having a b.b.q. , and came over and asked a question , and during this your dog decided to do his business next to where i was eating , and when i asked if you could pick it up , you said i will in a minute , which as you were aware didnt go down with me too well.
We have on park at the moment 20 or more dogs on a training week , they have no problems , so i dont see how you have a problem with our friendliness, and dogs are well catered for with numerous local walks , which we get constant praise for .
Regards
Paul and Kirsty

we stayed here for a couple of nights this week.....what a lovely tranquil place it is with lots of space for our tent. Beautifully kept and everything is very clean, including the showers and toilets. There is also a fridge for tent users and a washing machine you could use for a small charge. It is a stones throw away from a gorgeous pub, where we enjoyed a relaxing meal one evening. just a small thing but the showers block are closed for cleaning between 10-11am, didn't really affect us too much apart from pre planning shower times etc.

Local attractions

The Willows is a 10-minute walk – or five minutes by bus – from its closest village Brampton, where there are another two recommended foodie and dog-friendly pubs, the Black Bull and the Dragoon. Brampton's also the place to hail Captain Tim's river ferry to Godmanchester and back; this is dog friendly too.

For watery sports, there's a sailing club and a watersports centre at Grafham Water, alongside a good-size centre that also includes outdoor playgrounds, Segway hire, a 10-mile circular cycle track (and bike hire), and trout and coarse fishing. The centre's 200-acre nature reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest runs regular activities and events.

Also recommended by Kirsty and Paul are Hinchingbrooke House and country park, a few hundred metres away; Pepys House at Brompton and the Cromwell Museum at Huntingdon, both within a couple of miles, and seeing the bird of prey displays at the Raptor Foundation, 20 minutes' drive away at Woodhurst.

Must see

  • Cambridge American Cemetery and Memorial (13.0 miles)
