Around the grounds

General

  • Peaceful family-run site a short stroll from the Great Ouse river
  • Canoe and small craft launch, fishing and play park
  • Acclaimed and dog-friendly gastropub within 150 metres

Pitch up near the river and launch your canoe with ease at this small, secluded, friendly and well-maintained green site in Cambridgeshire countryside… or dangle a rod into the water for a spot of (free) coarse fishing, or keep a lazy eye on the offspring at the play park while you lounge about in this scenic setting… all up for easy grabs at Willows Park and Marina near Huntingdon and a short stroll from the Great Ouse river.

All pitches are on grass, some under the handsome willow trees. Both areas have easy access to the well-maintained and heated bathroom block with toilets, showers, a big disabled-access bathroom, a laundry room and washing-up areas.

There's plenty of room around the site and along the river for wanders; if your feet want to take you further, you can hook up with the Ouse Valley Way from Brampton or Huntingdon (or both; The Willows lies between the two). There's more coarse fishing too at the lake 750 metres away, you can hire boats a couple of miles away, and the watersports and events of Grafham Water are within 20 minutes' drive.

Barbecues are allowed on site, but you might, sensibly, opt to sup and sip instead at the neighbouring Brampton Mill gastropub by the river a minute's walk away: it's dog friendly here too.

Although we didn’t use the showers or toilets they were spotless.
Pitches were flat and well spaced out and the grass was freshly mowed for the weekend.
Great pub close by with friendly staff and good service with a varied menu.
We needed to book for the evening due to social distancing there was limited tables available a good sized outdoor area but when we were there it was raining so that wasn’t an option.
Had trouble getting a signal for the TV but that was soon sorted when the Manager cut away some of the branches from the overhanging Willow tree!
Great place for a quiet weekend will definitely be back Thanks 👍🏻

Good size pitches, clean and tidy site, friendly and informative wardens. Good walks from the site along the river Ouse and into Godmanchester. We didn't use the facilities due to COVID 19.

    Disliked:

Overhanging trees scraped the roof of the motorhome, there wasn't anyway of avoiding them. The grey water and chemical disposal point is quite small and people clearly have difficulty in aiming their waste. On 2 occasions we had to clean up after other people before we could use it, not the wardens fault but maybe this area needs redesigning.

Great location for walking, hitchingbrooke country park just across the road, great for days out for all ages.
Found a fab pub few minutes drive away called Hartford Mill, dog friendly too outside overlooking the river and lots of boats to watch.
We would definitely return for another visit.

This was an overnight trip basically to get our motorhome back on the road given all the Covid-19 trauma. It was a relatively random site choice as we had not been here before. It was a sunny day, which always helps the mood and it was so good to be out in the fresh air with relative normality.
Our first impressions were very good and Kirsty met us at the gate and helped us to our pitch, and was very welcoming and bubbly. She explained the safety routines and is clearly conscious about shielding, and dealing sensibly with Covid-19 procedures in the loos and showers. She also pointed out some of the best walks in the area, where to find good pubs and made us feel welcome. The site is very well kept. The willow trees look lovely and there was a sense of space and we liked the site's position so close to the water. All in all a great site for us . Many thanks to the wardens

    Disliked:

The exit is a tad tight for a large outfit and needs careful attention. But it is fine.

Local attractions

The Willows is a 10-minute walk – or five minutes by bus – from its closest village of Brampton, where there are another two recommended foodie and dog-friendly pubs, the Black Bull and the Dragoon. Brampton's also the place to hail Captain Tim's river ferry to Godmanchester and back; this is dog friendly too.

For watery sports, there's a sailing club and a watersports centre at Grafham Water, alongside a good-size centre that also includes outdoor playgrounds, Segway hire, a 10-mile circular cycle track (and bike hire), and trout and coarse fishing. The centre's 200-acre nature reserve and Site of Special Scientific Interest runs regular activities and events.

Also recommended by owners Kirsty and Paul are Hinchingbrooke House and country park, a few hundred metres away, Pepys House at Brompton and the Cromwell Museum at Huntingdon (both within a couple of miles), and seeing the bird of prey displays at the Raptor Foundation, 20 minutes' drive away at Woodhurst.
